  • Should you be doing kegels?
A kegel is a pelvic floor muscle contraction and it is a common exercise that is recommended to help train the pelvic floor in women and men with a weak pelvic floor which may lead to urinary leakage, incontinence, prolapse, sexual dysfunction and pelvic pain.
However, individuals with an overactive or tight pelvic floor should avoid doing kegel exercises since this may cause an increase in tightness of the pelvic floor muscles and worsen their condition and symptoms.
Individuals with tight pelvic floor muscles should focus on relaxation and stretching techniques instead of strengthening techniques such as kegels.
