- Today we dyno and ride the all new Wildcat 240RS engine from EC Carburetors. This is the new king of small block engines. First we dyno it stock out of the box, then we move on to removing the governed coil, next is billet flywheel, and last is a ported head. How much power will it make?

Road to horse power....my favourite time to watch and learn 👍
Thank you for taking the time out of your day to watch!
@@RedBeardsGarageThank you for making this series, it's very cool that you're able to take the geusswork out of small motor power, especially for the home builder
@@RedBeardsGarage please build and dyno a 263R. Thank you!!!
Nice to see performance stock engine at a decent price. I really hope these become popular in kart racing so they can stick around.
@Redbeard I love the idea of building a torque motor. Please do it! For trail riding where speed and rpm tend to be lower, torque is what is needed. Also, something I think is much more important than peak HP and peak TQ numbers is the "AREA UNDER THE CURVE". A motor with 10 ft lbs of torque over a wide RPM band will beat a motor with narrow peak of 15 ft lbs of torque any day. Peak is good to know, but it's not a real world indicator of true performance. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK. YOUR CHANNEL IS AWESOME, BEST ONE ON TH-cam!
Almost 15 hp stock is good. It might be something to replace a worn out engine on a later model Rokon.
I can’t wait to build it up further.
I can't wait to get one🎉
@@hottrodd1090I just placed an order for one.
I do wonder if I can remove my stock cvt and swap it to the rs
@@RedBeardsGarage. Your videos are so intuitive.. I’m glad to have watched your channel grow! And yes sir get that thing to be one your first 80mph mini bikes?!? Haha wishful thinking
Thanks for the video , and also taking the time to Dyno this engine.
Received mine last week, anxious to do port work on mine also !
Does yours startup and run??
I’ve adjusted the needle setting to no avail and the carb just floods the engine.
EC must assume anyone ordering this motor is a carb builder.
@Thepulsewidth did you get it figured out?
@@jasonsullivan324 yes,
Needle jet came out of carb body during shipping
Awesome video!!.....you mentioned a tourqe build for this engine......a cam comparison on the dyno would be cool to see, show how lsa and duration effect not only horsepower/tourqe but how it changes the powerband and where peaks occur.
I think most people go strait for peak numbers but don't understand usable power throughout the entire powerband will make or break the experience of the ride.
I agree. I’ll try to do that for an episode.
I'll be puling the trigger in 6 months or so. I've been working on a custom-build design of a heavy bike for heavy riders, and the 240 is just the power that design needs to function comfortably.
Great vid. Good to have a clear dollar per hp winner in all regards - from ready to go, AND ready to build.
I don't know I personally don't need any more than my big valve 224. With a 28mm flatslide it's honestly dangerous 😅😂
My Ducar 224 feels like almost too much for me on my MM212 frame sometimes so I get it.
Before i cooked the rod it was all stock with a cheapy slide carb and scared me a few times LOL
Cant wait to see some big block and vtwins on the dyno
My question is... how many pulls until it starts? My 225 takes forever to start when the engine is cold.
Could you make a video on how to tune the wc22 style carbs
I can. I want to make a carb video very soon. Rolling wrench has a carb tune video that pretty good. Check him out.
@@RedBeardsGarage thank you very much
I know this is gonna be good video. Smile gave it away in the beginning.
I like this engine a lot. Can’t contain my smile lol.
I want one but they are out of stock can’t wait for them to get some more in
Been waiting for this video. More aggressive, camshaft and valve valve train to go with it along with a bigger carb next?
Yes sir.
Methanol? 🤔
I'd love to get one of these or a 263 Tillotson on my racing kart thanks for the video 😎 👍 🇨🇦
You experienced Valve float at 7300 evident in the curve on the last pull, put some better valve springs in and repeat the test.
Awesome 👏 video but I would have love to hear how much the pice was along with the specs thanks to you I really have learned how to tune my my 224 from harbor freight
Spoke to ec today and said these wont be back in stock till late November 😢
The stock ghost engine makes 15.9 hp. I have a 236 stroker. 212 block with a 72mm bore and a 58mm stroker crank with 6270 billet rod, 320 brown box cam, 6mm fat push rods, billet lifters, stainless heat treated valves, 37/50 double spring valve springs, steel retainers and keepers, head ported and polished, cut for bigger valves and springs, brass/bronze valve guides, 1.2 roller rockers, billet flywheel already setup for drag racing plus an extra 2° advance timing, race coil good for up to 10,500 rpm, 8mm plug wire, NGK plug, full race exhaust, 30 series torque converter with green spring for speed, amr300 supercharger with a 6 sigma nitrous setup, keihin 26mm race carb, polished aluminum intake, 72mm ceramic coated piston. Still under the building process lol. Should sound like a nasty little monster when I get it done. It's basically a Jr dragster engine I'm building for my mini bike or riding mower frame
The ghost makes nowhere near 15.9 stock.
@riverchaser2090 sure it does, I had one. But I upgraded to a 236 stroker which has way more hp. I have almost if not more hp than a stock dirt bike. Meaning as much as a 125
@@markharris1473 an out of box predator ghost does not make 15.9 hp.
My ass it does LOL
And that is "basically" a list of bullshit, not at all like a jr dragster engine.
You kids need to stop with the "bascially" thing because you really don't understand context at all.
It's about as silly as saying "I mean" before have said anything to have a point to explain.
Ghost makes 9.9 hp that’s a harborfrieght misprint states predator 459cc .
Those mufflers you have been using for a while are the best sounding ones for small engines. Of ones I’ve heard online not much miniature power sports going on around here. What model is that muffler?
I will put the link for it in just a little bit. I agree it is by far the best sounding.
Building a small block mini drag bike and wondering what is the best all out money and performance buy engine
This 240rs is for sure.
All the tests seem to be valve spring limited. A .275 or .308 cam minimum and 37lb springs would make a huge difference. You put his MoFlow head on that motor and it’ll make well over 20hp with a .310, .315, .356, pretty much any cam you pick
Ported stock head or their wc946 head?
Really wonder what jets he ended up using... My 240 has been a nightmare to tune.
105-115 main leave the idle jet
Mine never ran right. Low rpm stumble... couldn't get rid of it. Gave up.
Why are there no videos of the Wildcat Ghostbuster is not good?
Long time watcher and a fan of small engines and this channel wondering do you build motors for sale would love to have a stage 4 motor built at Your shop! Your attention to detail and what I learn keeps me coming back is it possible to commission a build?
I noticed that you have never tested these motors with ratio rockers it would be nice to see what hp result you would from ratio rockers to that motor
Whats up with the 7.5 air fuel ratio after you put on the ported head? Just a bad reading?
I didn’t notice it. I’ll have to look back and see. I don’t remember it being off.
Dam.if that's the case that's shit they left a lot on the table that's super fat and lean is mean
@@RedBeardsGarage he is right I just seen it too. Right after you put the ported head on it dropped to 7.5 @6:35
@@RedBeardsGarage I have noticed it doing so more than once and thought you had given us a reason for it so I never said anything.
Maybe i should have months ago oops lol.
It will say 17:xxx sometimes on the hit even or some weird numbers during the run.
@@gsppuffer ROFL
gasoline isn't going to run like this did that rich if it would even start.
You could put some chickens in the paddock to eat the grass and give you some eggs.
What do you use to gap the coil? Is it a feeler gauge?
Yeah.. He usually uses a 0.040 (40 thousands, or roundabout 1mm) feeler gauge on it.. but you have to do some research for your specific coil and spark plug, what gap you need, to get the longest life out of your coil.. i'm always using one out of my mind.. so i'm like: “yeah i have *that* kind of coil and *that* kind of spark plug/gap, so i'm using *that* gap on it“ ..yk what i'm say'n??
@@christiannagy8417 No don't just throw around numbers, always look that up as best you can.
Wrong magnet too close is a bad day for your coil.
Neither gap have much to do with each other and one doesn't mean much to MOST of us in the first place, not much reason to mess with the plug gap.
So are you changing the jets out to get the most power before you dyno? Especially after changing the head? Just wondering
Impressive would love to see fuel efficiency at load aka for a gen set that’s a decent engine
Would like to see a torque build. I've been thinking of a 236 or this case 240 for a mud motor. Peak power just above stock but much better torque. With a small block weight class.
How does the 240RS compare to the Tilly MK2 racing engine? I just watched your video and I'm curious, still learning a lot about these engines. I know the engine plus EC's stage 1 is about 800 while that MK2 is priced at 899.
What engine did you enter in Ec carburetor builder's dyno
God bless RBG
Can you tune out the need to give it throttle just to start it?
Yes
Raise the idle and hold the rear brakes
It’s hard to on a cold engine.
My 212 hemi will, but don't even sneeze on the throttle for a bit if it's cold or it will stall lol.
A/f took a huge dip with the ported head
Heck yeah brother 💪
Would ECs 14cc 5.5mm big valve ported head fit on this motor. I assume the one used in the video was the 18cc 5mm but I’m unsure on the main difference between the two.
Do 212 predators have a rpm limited coil?
What would you do different to max out on torque versus maxing out on horsepower?
Mostly cam honestly.
@@RedBeardsGarage which cam would you recommend? Looking at one of these for my longtail boat
335 cam and alky with D slide 28mm !!!!
I like it how does it rank in the dollars to hp?
Awesome!
You need to build a drag mini bike and run it on a 1/8 mile
I saw a 1200 Sportster on marketplace for $1500 bucks the other day.
@@NubsWithGuns You're offended? Interesting, Hay did you know that No two snow flakes are identical. How crazy is that.
@@NubsWithGuns Bless your little heart. 🍪
what is the weight of this engine?
First babyyyy. Love these new EC motors 🔥
I am going to say red check out the new predator 224cc hemi 😮 that's is a game changer. 74.5mm bore🎤drop😅
You said the head had 18mm value
I’m assuming both are 18
Correct???
18mm combustion chamber in it.
Wish you would strap a gy6 to that dyno one time. There isn't a gy6 dyno build to be found anywhere in internet land
Will you please dyno a GY6!!
I like
me too
same here :)
absolutely
heck yeah💪🏾🔥
She's Siiiiiiccclk!
14 POUNDS TORQE I POSTED THIS BEFORE I SAW THE VIDEO
☠️
Thank you Mr Big Red Garage i am go to buy this for my Manco American Express go Kart
test it with some stamped 1.3s!! haha
I should. I’ll try to get some in to test on it.
@@RedBeardsGarage buy a few see maybe what strength springs it takes to bend, 26, 37, 45, 60 maybe what bends pushrods too what cams it likes. i have the tilly 212 EE shaved timing key the best flywheel for off road with a stock ported nonhemi 212 head 26#(need some 36#) .272 mongoose with stamped 1.3s gets about 7k at 50 mph lots of torque. its what I call my poor mans stage 3 also pwk 26
Idk imo they seem silly unless one is racing.
I tested some before and they just ramped it up too fast for what I wanted.
Hey red beard i put my wildcat 240 on my mm212 and its breaking up on take off but clears out did you have to do any tuning?
@greasedupdeafguys, did you ever get that sorted out? I'm having the same problem.
Mine idles... Anything more and it shits it's pants. Gotta tune from scratch.
It's unbelievable rich. Carbon on everything.
@bpmangler yes I ended up getting a better vm22 carb and up the main jet to a 115 I tried to contact ec about ut but tbh they didn't believe me it was disappointing
@bpmangler I got the 38 dollar mikuni clone off of studz and it's been nothing but perfect
Ec sent me a carb with drilled out pilot and a different needle, I tried several carbs and tuning to no effect. I gave up.
Put that engine on one of those electric bikes called volcon grunt . Those bikes look cool but I don't care for electric. God bless you
YESSIR LETS GOOOOO #ALLMYLIFEBASSHEADZ HERE
You're gonna get me in trouble come tax time.
I was supposed to just buy a swingarm and new tires, now look what you did.
Why is they out of stock all the time
Someone please make a 3 or 4 speed that would bolt up to one of these engines.Just imagine the low end torque and top speed you could ever need.If chineese bikes can do it theres no reason it couldn't be done for this style engine
You want a dirtbike not a mini bike
I wanna put this engine in my mega moto 80 😂
OMG you crazy boy :)
Yo GPS it how fast
They are never in stock…
Moded 18 to 200
$600 bucks with no billet rod. I think is bit overpriced.. a 212 non hemi performance kit is 270 with cam. a better bigger actual 26mm carb (vm22 are like 22mm not 26) is around that 50 & engine is a bit cheaper & should do good. They even cheaped out on the 30 amazon carb..
Should of added ting to the stock cast aluminum wheel to see gains
Please set your screen up to show HP and Torque in Real time so viewer can get more excited seeing the number build. RPM is boring.
can we get a new go kart build pls
I THINK 14HP STOCK
I’m saying 10-14
7,500 aint it shes done at 6k
It needs some nitrous.
I have some in my tool box. We may just do that. I would want to do a wet shot though.
This mf sounds like a dirt bike haha
Those are my favorite mufflers.
That spark plug looks burnt
It looked pretty good to me.
There out of stock rn
I just seen that I wanna try one on my dirt race kart
Out of stock 😢
Cam is tapped out and played out
Yeah we will be swapping it out to make more power very soon.
It's way over priced
It is the cheapest dollar per HP you can buy. I don’t understand how it’s over priced?
If u broke just say that
Love that you put those bible verses in your videos. Good way to spread the gospel
CAN YOU TRY SA PHILIPPINE'S ONE OF THE MOST USEFUL AND POWERFUL ENGINE SUMO 19HP, PROQUIP 22HP, KRESS KTICH 20HP CAN YOU MAKE IT???? THIS ARE THE ENGINE'S THAT WE USE...... SORRY ABOUT MY ENGLISH MAN.🥹😅
