Instant sub!! excellent video Appreciate you creating this. Great production value as well. You should be on your way to a whole gob of subscribers with this quality!
Much appreciated! I am trying to get the right info out there that I had a hard time finding. Just one easy to follow explanation and video. Thanks for the encouragement. You made my day 🙏
Great video - my wife and I are new to laser engraving and really want to learn how to make some of these great looking canvas works. So far our attempts have been met with not so good results but hopefully can dial in and use some of your tips.
Hello! And thank you! I am having a great time making these. I have 1 or 2 more videos coming up. I promise it won't be one of those tiring "10 mistakes not to make" with the annoying host and the loud music! Ok, the annoying host will have to stay, for now ;) Say, follow me in Facebook as I tend to post quick tips and things like that (You can also check out some of the canvases there and ask any questions!) facebook.com/profile.php?id=100090391710043
@@severnabuilds Hello! I am not on Facebook but will subscribe here! Tried another image today using some of your tips and settings and got one to turn out well. By far the best of our efforts to date. Some of the underlaying paint colors didn't come through, so not sure quite why on that. Will continue the trial and error. Thanks for the tips!
Oh thanks for the sub but I can say I am happier you were able to apply some of the tips I shared. Colors are a whole different science and it is a bit of a educated guessing type game. I am in the process of making a very colorful canvas. I am doing a lot of material testing. The thing is that the hotter you burn your canvas, the closer you will get to the white, the base color. The less heat/speed you will get closer to the black (the last layer). So, the trick is to get into that sweet spot where you burn hot enough that all the colors get some love, and like so, they will show up. Keep trying! I have a video coming up with my latest experience. You are not alone in this fun science experiment :) Thank you again!
Oh my gosh! You're a God send!!!! I just ordered my S1 40W today for this exact purpose. I'm drawn to this art...I too have spent many hours researching! I came across a comment online of yours that directed me to this video. Well do. You have a new subscriber!!!!
I’m very happy I could help. Save this video and use it as a reference. If you have any questions, keep coming back I’ll answer them here and help others along the way. Let me know if I should make another video going into specifics of a particular step! Thanks for being a subscriber 🫶
thank you so very much for this excellent tutorial!! i've had my xtool s1 40w for a few months now to dive into laser canvas art and have been looking for a tutorial just like yours that actually explains the process in detail as opposed to glossing over it just to get clicks. i truly appreciate your research. thank you once again from a new subscriber.🙏
Thank you so much for your kind words. You really made my day! I own the same machine as you, bought it back in April 2024. Still learning and this engraving of painted canvases is such a great skill to pick up for the laser toolbox. I hope you are having fun with it. If you have any questions, just ping me! I am working on a shorter video with the tips I picked up on what not to do or things to avoid. I hope I get it uploaded here in the next few days. Find me in Facebook @severnabuilds!
i must add that these posts by madebymervich th-cam.com/video/qTsA1QAdlZw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ZcmMVGbm-Q2hv4OK and lasers and saws th-cam.com/video/-kzXl-qSU-s/w-d-xo.htmlsi=LnegnYajFmZhnqfX are good videos, just not enough details on settings and such as in your video. besides, you have the same laser i do, which is a plus!
hello and thank you for the great tutorial. it really helped me. I was wondering what other way I can clean the canvas after. I used a baby wipe and the color smeared. Thank you
I'm glad the tutorial helped you! For cleaning the canvas, try using a soft cloth or a microfiber towel with a little water. It might help avoid any smearing! If the color smeared perhaps there were other things at play (type of paint, curing time of that paint, power actually 'melting' the paint, etc). Give it a try!
Thank you for the video. My first 3 pictures that I did came out great but then I tried a picture of a person and it was a big fail. I’m not sure if I’m just not getting the brightness right. The faces seem to be really dark. Any thoughts
You are very welcome. I had a bit of beginners luck myself. Then it went bad and quick. First, the more contrast the better. If your first try comes out too dark, run a second pass and go lower on power and fast with speed. It is just a clean up run. Also, don’t overdo the painting. I only do 2 layers of white and 1 layer of black at the end. I got good results doing white, gray and black. See if that does it
yes I love the engraved canvas. My problem is when I engrave a picture I have more black and white show more than the colors. Is it too much power or the speed too slow. I am confused> Please help.
Hi! Glad we share the same passion then! Your colors not showing could be a number of reasons. Yes, speed and power could be the culprit but what about your paint? What order are you going about it? How thick you are applying the colors? Did you do a material testing? The picture itself also needs to be of good quality and contrast. Did you remember to invert the image? Lots of questions but if you take them one by one, the solution will show up. If you follow me on facebook you will see I had a similar issue. You are not alone!
450 on the second pass. I thinks this 3 passes approach is the best I have seen. Thought it would take longer but it was about the same if not 10 min quicker.
This video is filled with great information, and your delivery of it is excellent! Thank you!
Thank you! Still learning but striving to getting better with every take 📸 🙏

Are the settings you show your 1st or 2nd pass? 560 on the 2nd pass?
450 on the second pass. I thinks this 3 passes approach is the best I have seen. Thought it would take longer but it was about the same if not 10 min quicker.
