    As a child in the 1960’s I was fascinated by the Salty, I wasn’t living in Devon then, just on holiday but I can remember it having green on it. I can’t remember how many years that we came to Devon always staying in Dawlish but I know we were there in 1966 to 1970. We missed 65 as my dad couldn’t to come down from Lincolnshire but I know they where in Devon the year before I was born, 1955. I carried on the tradition when I left school and remember seeing the luna eclipse in November 1975 from the car park of the Smugglers Inn near Dawlish. I moved down in 2003 on account of those holiday’s. My only regret is I wish I could have got here sooner. Question, does anyone remeber the Teign Gold cider place on the road out of Shaldon to Newton Abbot. I used to love that cider and always took a few bottles home with me in the 1970’s.

      Lovely memories James - Theres a bit moire on the Salty, in tomorrows vid as well. I don't remember the Cider place myself, but I've 'Pinned' your comment so more people see it 👍👍👍

      @@BillsPhoneTeignmouth Cheers, thanks very much. I have a schooner in a bottle from a wet fish shop in Teignmouth, used to be near the crossroads in the middle of town. They had a few in the window and I asked a man who worked there how much they cost. He told me they weren’t for sale but he said he would let me buy one. I can’t remeber how much it was but it couldn’t have been much as it was 1973 and I didn’t have much money in those days. He told me an ex-sailor who lived in Shaldon made them. Happy days.

    When I was young we used to go camping on Salty, there were bushes and grass growing on Salty. Alf Broom would lend us a small boat called the Sea Lion and we would row across

    Was great chatting with you Bill. Wasn't there the Bairnscroft in Shaldon? Opposite where you board the ferry. I went to a birthday party as a kid there. Was demolished to build the flats. Think it was the Bairnscroft. Hope you find some info on the arcade. Keep up the good work 👍

    • @BillsPhoneTeignmouth
      @BillsPhoneTeignmouth  9 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yes, there was supposedly a bairnscroft in Shaldon, but on a recent video I was informed that it was also the name for the hotel in todays vid. Chap seemed pretty sure as (iirc) his mother was in charge of the nursery? I did try to find the Bairnscroft in Shaldon once, as I had a pic (which Ive Since lost) and none of the locals knew anything about it!

    • @rockabilly375
      @rockabilly375 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@BillsPhoneTeignmouth I can remember there being a nursery on the bottom floor of the Shaldon one. It was a big, rather cold building when I went in, probably not long before it closed. I think its correct that there was a Teignmouth one too.

    • @BillsPhoneTeignmouth
      @BillsPhoneTeignmouth  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, possibly because when my Mum watched the video, she said 'Bairnscroft - Oh yes, that was it' 👍👍👍

    Don’t know much about the salty , but I do remember the RSPB saying that hooded crows were seen on it in January 23 . I think it’s a haven for quite a bit of wildlife at low tide.

    Hi Bill hope you're well. A most enjoyable virtual walk around back beach and the information about the salty, what is the origin of the name salty?. The cake looked rather tasty I bet you mum enjoyed it, I think I would have had 2 slices too be honest.
    Best wishes stay safe Jon and Karen

      @BillsPhoneTeignmouth  7 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Cheers mate - No Idea on the origin of the name Salty I'm afraid - Like I say I remember it being there, then suddenly around 1981, it wasn't! don't even remember it being dredged! Yes, cake was lovely. It was the 'last slice' so perhaps a little larger than usual 👍

    What a stunning day in beautiful Teignmouth, Bill. I am always fascinated by ‘The Salty’, every year we come down. So it’s never completely covered by water, unless it’s a very high tide?

    • @BillsPhoneTeignmouth
      @BillsPhoneTeignmouth  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Its covered these days - Not a patch on what it once was - Used to be a permanent island in the Teign, until 1981 👍👍👍
