I'm surprised that Josh even had to mention that the knobs are made from knobwood because you'd have to be deaf to not immediately recognize the distinct character that it imparts to the signal. It's great that the knobs are raised and harvested organically, but what was the NAME of the knobwood tree that the Crimson tone knob was harvested from? And is there a bird on it? I am far from convinced (snnniiifff)!

I bought a Big Muff clone after watching a bunch of your videos and listening to players like Stu G and Dan Auerbach. I started to realize that a lot of classic sounds that I love were fuzz instead of overdrive or distortion. Also fuzz is surprisingly versatile depending on what kind of signal you cascade it into.

I used to think I didn’t like fuzz and would never use as a guitarist, but I think since watching the JHS Show and your show in the last two years my opinion has definitely changed having learnt much more from both channels, now I think I’m a fuzz addict, now I love my fuzz and have to stop myself using to frequently and using my other overdrives or distortions, but yep I definitely think I was missing out not using fuzz before as I find it really creative now, I think learning about the history more from Josh has really taught me much more about it and how and how to use it musically and not just thinking it was an over the top effect. Thanks to Josh and also yourself Rhett for providing me with much more knowledge and being able to making a much more informed decision. Thanks Steve

    • @saculsheet
      @saculsheet ปีที่แล้ว

He hates Germanium Transistors a lot, they're difficult to find, they're not abailable, that's the reazon he tells the people "don't say germanium is better" getting silicon transistors is easy and it coast around $0.15 each. The Smiley(fuzzface) uses 2, the other Bender uses 3, but a set of three germanium transistors for that pedal may cost $30! So, when Josh says "don't buy it only because it uses germanium" he is hating the pedal makers that use germanium transistors because they sound great, everybody from 40 to 60 knows this perfectly.

Fuzz trivia: most of Jimi's Fuzz Faces actually contained Roger Mayer's Octavio fuzz circuit, modded to remove the octave part. I have an Octavio and recently did the mod. I also have a silicon JH "replica" Fuzz Face. I love both, but I think the modded Octavio actually sounds closer to Jimi's fuzz tone.

Killer presentation of the fuzzes and their sound and application. This got me seriously interested in fuzz again.

Taste all vintage pedals with the correct germanium design stuff, you will appreciate the guitar's volume cleans up a lot. The 3 knob tonebender need a lot the 3 germanium transistor and the Ge diode, Fuzzface with germanium transistors is like to be in heaven!!, it's a browner sound. I don't recommend de JHS silicon versions. Regards

I think you have converted me into a Fuzz lover. I need to find the best first Fuzz pedal for me, though.
Love the Bonamassa Fuzz Face but don't want to spend that kind of money (they go for quite a bit now) and don't love the mini for some reason.
Am currently leaning toward the JHS Bender. Almost bought one from Makari's but those are super pricey too. Love their Smiley too, but I play Les Pauls a lot too and not just Strats or Telecasters.

simple solution for the knobs Use paint pens to put a rainbow color stripe on each side.that way you have more than just one single strip of color for location indication.....

5:30 haunting mid knob. Knob wood is Morningwood the hardest wood known to man. Endless sustain. Well ok a few minutes

Don’t change the knobwood, maybe a little more white on it or a wedge shape, fluorescent yellow on the bottom around to black 🧀. I love that blue slab of rough sewn wood with guitar parts attached to it.

Thanks Rhett, ⚓️ for the tool guys and amateur guitar & amp techs: ‘PAINT PENS’ just like Sharpie felt pens, but contain paint, in assorted colors. Admittedly cheap paint, but good enough to mark your knob. 😎

Thanks for bringing these to my attention .......never thought of it before but the very complex
top end adds to articulation and definition of some ranges of notes especially at lower gain
settings (Smiley on Strat) thanks for demoing this fine line .

I’m happy to hear a good honest opinion about these!! I agree the knobs are a little iffy... I feel top knobs look like they will snap off 😬 I’m a huge FuzzFace fan.... but I have always wanted to try a tonebender.... I wish I could have seen how they react with the volume knob a bit, but other than that great reviews!!! Hopefully I can get back to work soon and save up for one before they sell out hahaha

There’s just something about a tone bender circuit that warms my soul every time I hear it. Still amazed he got the “germanium sound” from silicon transistors.

Hey Rhett! Love your vids. With a bright marker of some kind you could draw a spiral that wound up the knob. That way you could tell how high the setting is based on how high the line is. Just a thought. Keep up the good work!

I agree with Rhett that the knobs are hard to see but i do agree with Josh that they do look cooler. Way cooler than some of those older pedal knobs where the line drags down for you to see. I guess it becomes an issue of cool looking vs practicality.

Its called "marketing". Do it too early, and the Manufacturer would b pissed, do it too late, you're missing the flavour du jour. So these drop always the same day, or very close to the same day.

Yeah, the Supreme is the deal. Thought that watching Josh's demo and DETAILED descriptions and confirmed here. It is not just the octave, there is a more unique character to the fuzz decay. It just does not sound like a Fuzz Face, Tone Bender, or Big Muff.
