I hadn’t realized how expensive new 226s have become. Last one I bought new was like a decade ago when I found a close out 226 tacops for just over $700.
In 1995, I bought a brand new Sig P226 for a decent price and the slide has "West Germany" imprinted on it. It has a very smooth double action pull, compared to my much newer P226 Legion. This pistol is something I will keep forever and pass it on to my heirs. The price for the Retro P226, I am sure would be astronomical and probably only a few would buy it.
I always think of trading my P226 nitro in on something newer or cooler. But James 226 love videos always make me glad i bought it, and the fact i cant justify a staccato
The p226 is legitimately my favorite pistol, but even then I've always felt there was a needless premium on the price tag. I don't see how it's twice as expensive as a Beretta 92 series. If this was closer to $700 I'd be all about it, but not $1200.
I’ve bought all of my West German Sigs (226,228, and 220) for $600 or less within the last couple years, and I still see them show up in LGS’s for around those prices. $1200 seems kind of silly.
I carried an old West German 226 as my duty handgun from 1996 until 2001. It never had a malfunction, it was a tack driver, and best of all it has the electro-nickel finish. As to the price, Sigs have always been a little more expensive than competitors and Sig fans will have no problem shelling it out to have one in the safe.
Jesus, iv got a 35 year old west german one I love it, best handgun ever made, just wish it had a rail I feel like you really missed an opportunity here to make the old style with a light rail
That's the least of their problems. Aside from having the old frame style, grips and box virtually none of the features on this gun are built to the original specs.
I like the classic sigs myself, in fact I do carry a vintage P226 in 40 myself. But I don’t see this as a next purchase since you can still get vintage sigs for cheap still (relatively). This isn’t a stamped steel slide like the originals and not from Germany. If a Sig without a rail is what you are looking for you can still go on the used market
Oh man, I'm a sucker for 80's and 90's service pistols, and I love my West German 226, but I regularly see nice police trade-in's from Europe and Israel for half or a 1/3rd of that price.
I have two west german sigs. Sig definitely used to make a more quality product than they do now, and for a better price back then. Quality has gone down while prices have gone up. I guarantee you can find many used german P226s for significantly less than $1200.
I was really hoping for the rolled steel slide. I have a West German P220 with the rolled steel slide and heal release magazines. It was imported by Browning as the BDA and is in .45 ACP. It is a fine pistol.
If the slide is milled it is an imposter and a total fail. I also have one of the original West German guns with the folded and welded slide which to me is the best one ever made. I appreciate the effort and I am not mad, just disappointed. ;-)
lol SIG USA saw there was a market for old Sigs (gee I wonder why) so they decided to make a new/ old Sig to cash in. "Yeah stop buying that old stuff. What do you want that for anyway? You want our new old stuff ..." Sig is dead. Long live Sig. Seeth harder Sig USA.
is this what i should get to complete my Michael Westen cosplay? i know he uses a 228 but what's really the difference when I'm a burned spy looking for whoever did me wrong?
If I need to scratch that old style Sig itch I just take out the German 220. I picked it up in 2011 for $400 I think, mint in box with 5 mags. Almost sold it a few years ago but after shooting again changed my mind real quick. If I want modern it's a 226 MK25 with SRT and G10 grips added.
Crazy to think that a no frills 226 would cost $1,200 or even if it streets for $1k that’s still high. But not surprising considering Sig has shifted its production capabilities to high volume dog crap striker fired polymer pistols thus making their legacy production more scarce.
I have an AREX Zero1 (P226 clone). 5000+ rounds through it and not a single misfeed or failure of any kind. The gun is extremely accurate and pleasant to shoot. I did add a set of new Hogue grips for $10 which helped. $Paid 349 for it brand new. $1200 bucks....meh.
Want a retro P225 (has a huge trigger guard for use with heavy gloves) with a lighter folded slide (lighter is better) and a heel magazine release (far less prone to accidental activation and more easily operated while wearing heavy gloves).
This is more a recreation of the early 2000s version of the P226 when Sig started using the milled slide. They have done runs of "legacy" versions of the P226 and P229 which were actually cheaper than the standard version. As far as I can tell, this is just a legacy P226.
This is really cool bro!!
The p226 is legitimately my favorite pistol, but even then I've always felt there was a needless premium on the price tag. I don't see how it's twice as expensive as a Beretta 92 series. If this was closer to $700 I'd be all about it, but not $1200.
I still have an '85 226, w. German made. It's still head and shoulders above in quality than my new 226 elite.
Yall had me at p226
P229 is better
@@mauricemaurice123 P210-6 is even better.
@@mauricemaurice123 I own a MK25 and a 229 Legion. They're both excellent pistols.
@@mauricemaurice123 in what way ?
Ill sell you as many as you want used if you'll send me 1200$ lol ..unreal
I’ve bought all of my West German Sigs (226,228, and 220) for $600 or less within the last couple years, and I still see them show up in LGS’s for around those prices. $1200 seems kind of silly.
I carried an old West German 226 as my duty handgun from 1996 until 2001. It never had a malfunction, it was a tack driver, and best of all it has the electro-nickel finish. As to the price, Sigs have always been a little more expensive than competitors and Sig fans will have no problem shelling it out to have one in the safe.
THERE we go. That’s more like it!
Jesus, iv got a 35 year old west german one
I love it, best handgun ever made, just wish it had a rail I feel like you really missed an opportunity here to make the old style with a light rail
That's great but it doesn't say "Made In West Germany" on the rollmarks
That's the least of their problems. Aside from having the old frame style, grips and box virtually none of the features on this gun are built to the original specs.
I’ve had three W Germans. They aren’t that good.
I wish it had the OG stamped slide for that price hike
I like the classic sigs myself, in fact I do carry a vintage P226 in 40 myself. But I don’t see this as a next purchase since you can still get vintage sigs for cheap still (relatively). This isn’t a stamped steel slide like the originals and not from Germany. If a Sig without a rail is what you are looking for you can still go on the used market
I'm not a pistol guy. But I want one. Used them in the military as well as the M9, Glock 19, M1911 and M15 revolvers.
I wonder if it has the same slight slide to frame rattle that made them so reliable back in the day.
for a Base P226 the price should be around $749.. I"d just get the Mk25 and save a few hundred
BRING BACK THE 556 PLS & THANK YOU
Sig is an Ar18 company now... No room for those pesky impingement systems.
@@jackbauer4186 The Sig 556 is long stroke like an AK lmao
Oh man, I'm a sucker for 80's and 90's service pistols, and I love my West German 226, but I regularly see nice police trade-in's from Europe and Israel for half or a 1/3rd of that price.
I have two west german sigs. Sig definitely used to make a more quality product than they do now, and for a better price back then. Quality has gone down while prices have gone up. I guarantee you can find many used german P226s for significantly less than $1200.
Oh thank God! Now I'm going to find a new 1967 Mustang...
Bring back the caliber exchange kits for the p200 series handguns and this might actually sell
P239 🤤
I was really hoping for the rolled steel slide. I have a West German P220 with the rolled steel slide and heal release magazines. It was imported by Browning as the BDA and is in .45 ACP. It is a fine pistol.
Here’s a sig I can like.
$1200 for a basic version of a 40 year old gun is insane.
You can find West German Sigs @ Bass Pro / Cabela's online.. Fair prices as well
Will magazines and slides be exchangeable with regular sig p226?
If the slide is milled it is an imposter and a total fail. I also have one of the original West German guns with the folded and welded slide which to me is the best one ever made. I appreciate the effort and I am not mad, just disappointed. ;-)
NEXT From Sig.. A Pistol from 45 years ago... Yeahh
At least you get:
A basic 226 that doesn't have the OG Sig pedigree for way too much.
The pistols from 45 years ago were far better. I'd be ECSTATIC if this was a West German quality SIG
I bought my west German P220 in excellent shape for wayyyyy less than $1,200. Don’t get robbed people!
lol SIG USA saw there was a market for old Sigs (gee I wonder why) so they decided to make a new/ old Sig to cash in. "Yeah stop buying that old stuff. What do you want that for anyway? You want our new old stuff ..."
Sig is dead. Long live Sig. Seeth harder Sig USA.
is this what i should get to complete my Michael Westen cosplay?
i know he uses a 228 but what's really the difference when I'm a burned spy looking for whoever did me wrong?
So you’re telling me I could get this or a legion? What is sig smoking?
Government contract money, mostly.
So, does it rust like the classic as well? I had this as my sidearm over in Angola in the early 1990s and it was a rust magnet.
This is what we wanted.
But will it be as good as my MK25?
I bought brand new a Mk 25. Great pistol!
CDNN in two years: $399
I am carrying an old German frame P220 without a rail and an SAO Legion slide on it, so I am down with this for sure.
What happened to the P225 relaunch?
can't you find original 226's for fairly cheap?
Does the frame crack?
Are they retro quality as well?
But does it come with the P320’s surprise discharge feature?
Bring back the P226 combat
Bring back the P225.
Crazy to think that a no frills 226 would cost $1,200 or even if it streets for $1k that’s still high. But not surprising considering Sig has shifted its production capabilities to high volume dog crap striker fired polymer pistols thus making their legacy production more scarce.
Mmm retro MIM
Original p22x series had folded sheet metal slides with internal extractors.
it's funny how they pretended like $1200 is no big thing in 2024
I have an AREX Zero1 (P226 clone). 5000+ rounds through it and not a single misfeed or failure of any kind. The gun is extremely accurate and pleasant to shoot. I did add a set of new Hogue grips for $10 which helped. $Paid 349 for it brand new. $1200 bucks....meh.
does it have the SRT trigger?
Probably not, but that would be nice.
For this price it better!
@@burmiester1 Not a chance.
Ok make it available in 357 Sig like the 226 was
How about the p227?
Want a retro P225 (has a huge trigger guard for use with heavy gloves) with a lighter folded slide (lighter is better) and a heel magazine release (far less prone to accidental activation and more easily operated while wearing heavy gloves).
This is more a recreation of the early 2000s version of the P226 when Sig started using the milled slide. They have done runs of "legacy" versions of the P226 and P229 which were actually cheaper than the standard version. As far as I can tell, this is just a legacy P226. If they actually want to recreate the folded slide version, that may justify such a price tag, but we know that isn't going to happen.
I own a W German 226 and wish it had a light mount.
