It really isn't that hard to find used old production P226s for under 1000 bucks, I understand theres the appeal of them being new production and limited edition, but 1200 bucks is still pretty fucking steep for such a basic handgun

I worked at a shooting range from 2002-06 where we had a variety of rental guns. The P226 was the only gun that was more durable than Glocks. Our customers shot that thing so much that it did start having trouble and we sent it back. They pulled the breechblock out of the sheet-metal slide and replaced it and the gun worked fine again. We wore it out again and then I think SIG refused to fix it a second time, but that was still an epic amount of shooting through that thing.

Not surprising since FN did the same thing with their re-imagined High Power. It's just frustrating that they could've spent less on the fancy packaging, manual, and grips to bring the price point down. As it stands now there's literally no reason to pick this over the Mk25 unless you absolutely can't stand having an accessory rail or you've got a ton of old P226 holsters that need to be filled.

They couldn't even be bothered to recreate the old style parts like the takedown lever, mag release or two-dot sights. SIG basically expected to slap "retro" on a base model and charge what effectively amounts to full price. I'm not a Glock guy but Glock busted their ASSES to get the Gen 1 Classic G17 as close as they could do so while still being practical. They even recreated the flat extractor!

The original stamped versions go for over $1200, but the milled stainless ones can be found for much less. It was the stamped slide that gave the original p225, p226, and p228 their great balanced feel. I have a handful of the pre-rail milled stainless Sigs and they really don't compare to the stamped predecessors' balance feel.

In 1995, I bought a brand new Sig P226 for a decent price and the slide has "West Germany" imprinted on it. It has a very smooth double action pull, compared to my much newer P226 Legion. This pistol is something I will keep forever and pass it on to my heirs. The price for the Retro P226, I am sure would be astronomical and probably only a few would buy it.

The p226 is legitimately my favorite pistol, but even then I've always felt there was a needless premium on the price tag. I don't see how it's twice as expensive as a Beretta 92 series. If this was closer to $700 I'd be all about it, but not $1200.

I had an original model 226 I bought a couple years after release. It was accurate, I'll give it that. It felt like a slightly rounded 2x4 in the hand. At the time I bought a 92F, a GL17 and the 226, the very top "duty" guns of the day. I really wanted to like it. I spend a ton of money on it, had it ported, trigger and action job, and still just hated it. Traded it for a used model 65 and something else. All that trouble to recreate a turd. btw, still have the 17 and the 92F.

This is more a recreation of the early 2000s version of the P226 when Sig started using the milled slide. They have done runs of "legacy" versions of the P226 and P229 which were actually cheaper than the standard version. As far as I can tell, this is just a legacy P226. If they actually want to recreate the folded slide version, that may justify such a price tag, but we know that isn't going to happen.
