    This game deserves to be studied together with Rubinstein - Capablanca: San Sebastian 1911. In his book _The Chess Mind,_ Gerald Abrahams cited them as two of the greatest examples of chess vision on record. (And incidentally, there is no better book for an exploration of the nature of chess vision and chess thinking than Abrahams' masterpiece.)

    In rook endgame, Rubinstein is considered one of the best, if not the best.

    At about the time of this game rubenstein was probably the strongest player on the planet, he had trouble getting the money together to challenge for the title so it never happened, rubenstein suffered from what now would be called mental trouble,s, but at his best for me was one of the strongest end game player,s who ever lived.

    You often mention that Tiger Petrosian was notoriously difficult to beat----What about analysing some of the games where he narrowly escaped being defeated? Is that something you would like to do,or perhaps you have already done it?

    • @irishmusicpainter
      @irishmusicpainter 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Oissev Onos Yes indeed I have seen some games by Petrosian that Mato analysed,but as I recall he was beaten in those games. It would be interesting to see games in which his opponent although gaining an advantage,failed to win.

    Taking on g2 with B was probably better. Also i think short castling was better.
    When i play black i like to play a6.
    I think d5 is not the best reply to d4.
    Better in my opinion is c5, f5, g6 or even e5.
    To win with black it takes an agressive approach.

    If you want to beat Lasker, you had better be on top of your game. Well played Rubinstein.

    Why not n-c7 at 1:57

  • @ifutureman

    Why can't white just play Nc7+ forking the rook? at 01:57

  • @azy63
    @azy63 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'm probably going to embarrass myself here: instead of N-e3, why not N-c7 check?
    It wins the rook and black loses castling privileges.

      Thank you! I totally missed that. *sigh* Still so much to learn.

      Rodion Raskolnikov They didn't really, I just managed to squeeze out that one, false sentence. As soon as I lose my mind, I plan to go into politics and become a democrat.

    At 1:58 why doesn't the knight go to c7, give check and capture black rook???????

    • @astroNexx
      @astroNexx 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If Nc7, then Kd8 opens the e file for the h rook. If Nxa8, then Re8+, and white must block with Queen on e2, because if Kf1, queen delievers mate on g2.

      @Oissev Onos I've heard that when analysed using modern engines Rubinstein played all the best moves in most of his games..hence the comment
