The Swiss vignette is for the toll roads and it’s very easy to travel through the country without using them especially on a motorbike. I went over to Liechtenstein in the summer while I was staying in the south of the Schwarzwald. I crossed between Switzerland and Germany times on the way and there wasn’t a toll road in sight. For anyone spending any time touring Switzerland the vignette can be a real bargain especially for those people driving cars or motorcaravans.
Nice one Ian. Next time do Switzerland. There's no chance of getting pushed on to the toll road accidently. It's a massive motorway that goes through the valleys. Easy to avoid. Enjoy. 👍🏻
Hi Ian - Was glad you used Rosslare route to avoid the dreadful M6, really pleased you got ahead of Storm Boris. Thinking ahead if you are heading south in Italy - there are ferries from Bari to both Dubrovnik and Albania, can recommend Montenegro for motorbikes. I know Albania has a lesser reputation for their driving skills but as you handled Morocco to Gambia then that will be a walk in the park. I suspect you will be heading Turkey direction to avoid the impending Europe winter weather. My wife had to scrape frost off windscreen in Fife last week ! Got to admit I would like to see Southern Italy / Scilly. Regards Doug
Great campsite at Waltshut on the Rhine just before the Swiss boarder I head for when crossing the Alps. Switzerland can be done without the motorway pass if heading to Stelvio pass etc. Austria motorway pass only about €14 for a week though. Camping at lake Kaltersee (warmest lake in Alps) is great too if in area S of Trento. Safe riding, great vids 😊
Thanks for another great upload Ian. That scenery on your way down to Italy was simply stunning. Delighted to hear you have a love of classic/vintage cars and I'm sure your visit to the Mille Miglia was epic. I'm looking forward to your onward journey through Italy. Take care for now.
Absolutely loving this series Ian. Reading the narrative and still pics on the vstrom group and then watching on you tube brings this to a new level. Nicely done and thanks. Stay safe.
Dornbirn is in Austria, not in Liechtenstein. You drive over the Umbrail Pass (Switzerland), turn right down to Bormeo. The Stelvio is on the other side.
Thanks Ian,can’t help but notice many churches have twin spires!.Ps My girlfriend and I travelled by coach to Italy, the driver said traffic lights in Italy //“In Milan they’re for instruction,in Rome for suggestion,in Naples for decoration”😊.
Breathtaking episode over the mountain and the pass looked terrifying to me 🤯 I can't do right handers on the bike 🚳 stay safe and warm and can't wait to see where you end up this year 😁
Hi Ian can you do a short brief video of your luggage system for this trip please. The last one you did on the hard panniers was excellent, but I’ve been leaning towards the soft panniers now for my own bike. Thks
Great stuff, Ian . similarly i went solo london to morocco shortly after you, I went late April. This week I travelled over the Abula pass (direction Italy) on Wednesday having aborted an attempt to cross the Stelvio. On Thursday (yesterday) I crossed the gotthard and susten passes direction Germany, all 3 had snow but the roads were clear. You were right about the weather Tuesday ! ride safe 🙏👍🏻
I noticed that too. If I have seen it right, there is a continuous FI blinking. Most likely the exhaust valve . If you have some time ,check youtube on C46 error. It is easy to check , you find tons of videos about it. Happens on allmost all V stroms around 35000 km. Had the same problem and as I trust no other engineer, It took me 6 months to find the cause and the solution. The valve is commanded by two cables. If they are dirty there is too much friction which causes to overload the motor which contols them giving the error C46. Inspect the valve if ikt opens and close while twisting the throttle. Cleaning the mechanism and put some WD40 on it can help for a while. At the end I had to replace the valve actuator ( 500€) but a 75€ second hand from a gsx1000 did the job. An other solution is to replace the whole system with a dummy an keep the valve in continuous open position. This is done mostly. But you loose some bottom power and gain some top power. A 1050 v strom doesn’t have the valve anymore. Why has Suzuki done this :-)
Great video, as per. And the mighty VStrom running well?
Really enjoying your videos what make and model of gps do you use .keep up the good work Alan Northern Ireland .👍
Great video, thanks for sharing your experience
I like your video and would be happy to see more great motorcycle videos from you... Always have a good trip on your tours with your motorcycle ✌️🍀🌞😉

I don´t know if you´ve mentioned it before, but why is the red light on your dashboard?
