Yup there's always something religious with the meaning behind anything that was common during the 19th century although the tune originated in the late 18th century though.

My aunts house had this chime in the 90's- I love the macabre and theres something haunting about it especially the low note thumps at the end when it counts the current hours. I need one !!!
I absolutely love the chimes on any clock, it must be the bell ringer in me. I have a mantle clock with these chimes which I saved for and it was so worth it, I would love a Grandfather clock but my house isn't big enough, the ground it stands on has got to be level and they cost so much to service, and if it stopped for no apparent reason it would freak me out because of the history of them. So I'm going to keep with utube. 🎶🎶.
My grandparents had a clock that would make this jingle at the start of every hour. I always wondered what it was called, and I kept forgetting to ask it they knew. Finally, after all these years, I know what it is!
My grandfather had one as well. I always associated this chime with his house. He passed away 6 years ago and the clock now sits on the mantle above my fireplace, still chiming at each quarter hour
Same! And remembering it was why I suddenly realized it’s where I know the Westworld mind control bass melody from. The show offers the explanation that it’s the first few notes of a classic piece of music but in reality it sounds so much more like this than the piece they cited.

Bro! My grandparents had a clock that would chime like this, and every time we visited them, we would make it a priority to listen and count the number of chimes together, whenever it sounded off.
I remember every morning when my mom was leaving for work, she'd drop me off at my grandpa's house since he would watch me while she was working. It'd be early in the morning, like 6 or 7AM, and my grandpa would still be asleep just for a couple hours. And I was pretty young, but my mom and grandpa trusted me to take care of myself and be fine in that short time he would still be sleeping. I'd sit and watch cartoons in the living room until he woke up. Octonauts, Yo Gabba Gabba, Bubble Guppies, the list goes on. Anyways. He had a pretty big house, and it would always be completely silent while I was watching TV and my grandpa was sleeping. But every now in then, through the silence, I would hear this start to play faintly in a few rooms down. I had gotten so used to hearing it became like white noise, and it was actually comforting. At the time it meant nothing to me obviously, it was just a random sound from a clock. But hearing this now makes me feel so weird there are no words to describe it.
I remember an old clock tower that's in my town that used to ring this out, it stopped 4, maybe 5 years ago, and has rarely rung any form of tune since (when ever it rings, it's random bells going off then it rings the hours, but I think it's broken because I swear, I would here it ring more than 12 times when ringing out the hour)
For anime fans that watched Jujutsu Kaisen, if you listen closely in Season 2's opening, especially at some point in the full version, you'll actually notice that it uses this melody. I'm not sure why but it's a nice touch
Also I have a story for this sound…. Takes deep breath. Your sitting in your room on TH-cam. Suddenly you hear your grandfather clock chime this is playing from the living room . Your home alone as your parents went on a trip for work. You decide to go to the living room and sit in the couch. The clock ticks in the background. Suddenly you hear something moving you look up and are frozen in fear. The clock is slowly waking towards you… You run away to your room scared, and hide in a corner. The clock opens the door and starts looking for you. You sit there shaking in fear, hoping it doesn’t find you. You look over and see it peeking around the corner at you. You let out a soft (oh no) breathing heavily. It approaches you slowly its footsteps getting closer and closer. You cover your face and almost start to cry. Then you feel it’s wooden arms wrap around you and it lifts you off the ground. It slowly pulls you towards it its arms still around you. You expect it to choke you but instead its embrace almost feels comfortable. Like it’s hugging you. You feel your breathing start to slow down, and you calm down a bit. You hear its gears moving and turning constantly, but it doesn’t bother you. You feel safe in its embrace. And can’t help but wonder if this is Harry Potter… ❤ Please Comment on this😊
