My late grandfather had a pendulum clock. I marvelled at its chimes when I was little. However, the next door neighbor complained about the noise, so my grandfather switched the chime and hours off. That clock still exists at my 90-year-old grandmother's house and it still works. Marvellous piece of engineering.
My 3-year old granddaughter LOVES this. She requests it several times, each time I visit. She has learned most of the names of the clock parts. So, THANK YOU very much for this beautiful, and complete video.
I love grandfather clocks too I have one, and for some reason I named it Henry somehow it speaks to me asking for a hug every now and then I’m only 12 so I’m stupid and yes I hug it. But when I dot, I feel a warmth spread through my body like it’s hugging back with invisible arms😊.
I miss the sound of a grandfather clock. My aunt and uncle had one, and I spent a lot of my summer's at their house. My parents eventually bought for our house, but left it behind when they moved in 10'. Hearing the chimes just makes me think of childhood and that feeling of being safe and secure.
I think it could be that they are from a time long before the chaos of modernity, a more sedate time when people generally didn’t rush around everywhere and there was no noisy traffic or thumping “music” etc. the same sort of feeling old buildings give you. I remember the grandfather clock my dad’s aunt had. Dad was born in 1909 and his aunt was an old woman when I was at pre-school age more than 60 years ago and it was handed down to her. It was a dark oak clock. I love the loud tick-tock of them. Very relaxing. I love spotting them in period dramas. One old thing I can’t ever remember seeing in any house is an oil lamp, the kind you also see in period dramas. I love seeing people turn them up in dramas, so I bought an Edwardian one. I love lighting it. I also reckoned it will come in handy in a power cut.
My grandson will be 2 in under 2 weeks. He is utterly besotted with my grandfather’s clock. I open the glass door for him and he goes Whoa whoa whoa!!! When the clocks chime he drops everything and listens with his little mouth open. Reading all your comments, I am glad the memory will stay with him, the clocks will eventually pass on to him, I hope he will enjoy it then as he does now.
im 42 years old and i still enjoy the chimes lol. i have it set every quarter, thats how i love it...i feel like the sound just fills our house with lofe thru its sound
I have a mantle clock which chimes the Westminster and Whittington chimes through the quarters. My aunt has a grandfather clock and the sounds are so cool.
Me too, I always plugged my ears when I was in my room with an old school tv and VCR. I'm not scared of it anymore but when I go somewhere I plug my ears until the chimes start.
Dude I’m visually impaired and that causes me to get scared by those things because I don’t know they’re coming. Don’t ever expect me to say “Bro” in my comments. I hate that word, people should just say “brother” instead of shortening it to “bro” because it sounds better to just say “Brother” so I’ll never say “bro” in my comments.
My grandparents had one of these in the '70s, they had it set to either St. Michael's or Whittington. It was off in a corner and yeah, the way the chimes would play, reverb and fade away was to me as a kid back then, creepy. But now that it's been gone for decades and I'm near 50, I miss it and this is sort of like getting to visit there with them again.

I’ve been fascinated by grandfather clocks since I watched Captain Kangaroo as a child in the 1950’s. I loved “waking up grandfather!” I never thought I could afford one, but my neighbor had one that belonged to her late husband. She didn’t think it fit into her decor so she had it tucked away in her basement. I admired the clock so much so she gave it to me! It’s a “65th Edition” Howard Miller made in 1991. Best gift I ever received! It has the Westminster chime.
0:37 Well, you see I've heard this tune quite a number of times in great movies like The Third Man, Dead Poet Society etc. And it's such a beautiful tune. It's music. And one thing about music, when it hits, you feel no pain.

This is such a cool clock. We have a couple of grandfather clocks in our family. They all only do the Westminster chime, but one of them has a moon phase chart that rotates which I think is just really cool.

Which i would always hear, because I wouldn’t sleep in the summertime, lol.

Just fixed my triple chime Keininger. It had a warped arbor on the time chain wheel. FYI, if your clock runs fine, then the center weight falls suddenly, this may very well be the issue. That was what was wrong with mine. The gears of the time chain wheel would come disengaged with the gear train because of the warped arbor. No one I asked about it knew what the problem was. I did a lot of inspection to figure it out. Also note, Keininger does not sell a K series time chain wheel at the moment, but the R series wheel fits...found this out by experimentation. This means The K, R, and M series all have the same time chain wheel (K and M series are the same, K is just thicker hardware).
It’s funny how the clock bells are in the music key of A major. In fact you get the descending scale pattern on Whittington and St. michael’s. Thing is though, the scale almost sounds like A, G#, F#, E, D, C#, B, D#, because the lower A is somewhat distorted or bent in pitch almost like a tritone.
The first one My Nana has a lot of clocks in her house She used to have one on the staircase but it doesn't work rn All her clocks have the same chime and I love it
I bought an Emperor clock movement (Emperor 100M Replacement Movement Kit (#209)) and built a Grandfather Clock Case from scratch and installed the movement. I built it for my daughter in 2006 and it looks & sounds great in her home. There is a small engraved plate with my name and the date inside the front door. My hope is it will be passed down to one of her children and ultimately to their children's children. I left the drawings I had created, while designing the case, in the base of the cabinet and attached a horseshoe (open side up for good luck) in the top portion of the clock behind the movement. One day maybe a great, great grandchild will discover it and think back to their great, great grandfather in the old timey days of the early 2000's. I wish I had something one of my grandfathers had made that was passed down, but alas, no. However, I get a special feeling every time I hear the ticking when visiting my daughter, son-in-law & grandchildren.
i only came here bc i heard one of these even though we don’t have one. it was in the middle of the night and it scared the absolute shut out of me bc we don’t have one and i was hearing things
Whittington would be the secondary type of chime, and Westminster would be the primary. I like to say that everybody wants to hear Westminster, but I must make sure that I respect exceptions including you. I apologize if you don’t like how I’ve worded this comment.
@@cbsteffen I grew up with my parents Westminster clock and I love it, but mine is the triple chime and I most often use Whittington, I guess just because it's something different for me. But I do play the Westminster and St. Michael sometimes too.
Mr. Anderson: I made a Windows program to simulate this clock, using your sounds. It has the same melody selections and switches. There is one problem... no clean samples. I would like to make this clock as accurate as possible, so people who cannot afford these clocks can have this program for free. I'd be honored if you would help me with the following: - the 15, 30, 45 minute and the hour melodies on their own (without hour strikes), for all three melodies - the hour strike sounds (1 to 12) without the melodies - ten to fifteen seconds of ticking pendulum if your microphone is in the same spot as from this video, I think it would sound the best. It can be all one single recording for ease, but it would be awesome if you let each sample fade away into silence, for the most accuracy. Thanks very much.

I love clocks.
The first one
My Nana has a lot of clocks in her house
She used to have one on the staircase but it doesn't work rn
All her clocks have the same chime and I love it
Nice chimes
That’s fantastic! I’m sure they will treasure the clock you built.
Howard Miller Triple Chime Grandfather Clock Movement
i only came here bc i heard one of these even though we don’t have one. it was in the middle of the night and it scared the absolute shut out of me bc we don’t have one and i was hearing things
Yeah I have a tubular chime clock that no longer works but i heard it chime once
Our mantel clock has (i believe) both Westminster and Whittington chimes, as well as silent mode, we use Whittington.
Interesting to hear the different speed of the same chimes. My Kieninger chimes and strikes slower, heavier.
Mr. Anderson: I made a Windows program to simulate this clock, using your sounds. It has the same melody selections and switches.
There is one problem... no clean samples. I would like to make this clock as accurate as possible, so people who cannot afford these clocks can have this program for free. I'd be honored if you would help me with the following:
- the 15, 30, 45 minute and the hour melodies on their own (without hour strikes), for all three melodies
- the hour strike sounds (1 to 12) without the melodies
- ten to fifteen seconds of ticking pendulum
if your microphone is in the same spot as from this video, I think it would sound the best. It can be all one single recording for ease, but it would be awesome if you let each sample fade away into silence, for the most accuracy. Thanks very much.
But the mantle has a speaker to it so they must have modernized it. But it’s old! Like 70 years old!
