Amazing shots and places, lovely colors. Impressive fort of Heraklion. With the churches you had me a bit confused - maybe add a subtitle of the place when switching around? Love the fort at 18:20. Lion vomit - LOL.
thks! funnily enough i ended up taking out the location subtitles so far this series as they were kinda cluttering the place up, might need to sneak them back in
@@ForestArchaicCollective Maybe part of them. When you were switching back and forth between the churches I had trouble understanding which ones were and which ones weren't Venetian...
The Venetians used to call Crete "Candia" (From the name of an Islamic settlement on the island) and I used to think that the English word "candy" came from this - from the sugar cane grown on the island. But I was wrong and found out that the word"candy" comes from one of the south Asian languages. Crete was Arab for a few centuries but then the Byzantine empire fought back and reconquered it. However on the division of Byzantine territory following the Fourth Crusade which the Venetians managed to divert to capture the Byzantine capital of Constantinople Crete fell to Venice as well as a lot of other Greek islands and mainland areas. The famous Spanish artist known as El Greco was from Venetian Crete studied in Italy and eventually ended up in Spain.
Loving this series so far!
Venetian lions always remind me of the wizard of oz lion!
