Some high level things about Canada:
    1) Unlike USA it is socialistic, meaning high tax, bad service, poor government services and most of the commercial services are pretty average, but as mentioned here a lot of people are thinking they are just entitled to tips/rewards by default.
    2) Canadians are polite, but not nice. Overall culture is quite passive aggressive, no one will tell you the truth, but do shit covertly. It all depends by the province, but there are tons of discrimination, clique relationships and etc literally everywhere. Born and raised Canadians but second generation immigrants are getting up to 10 times less calls when looking for a job if their name is different from typical Anglo/Francophone, there are plenty evidence for this and lots of stories on reddit.
    3) Even though government services, including general practitioners (healthcare) is bad quality, it is free. Emergency Response works well and you won’t die in Canada but might not get non life threatening conditions treatment either or will wait for years in a line. So free stuff helps a lot to those in need. Country is perfect for students, seniors and Chinese with lots of cash. If you are western middle class - think twice moving here as you gonna pay the bill for those with no/little income.
    4) Nature and infrastructure for outdoor sports are great. Defo one of the biggest advantages of the country.
    5) Canada is lacking culture/arts, so if you like fine art - forget about it.
    6) Canadian dollar is shit currency and lost it’s 30% value during oil crisis and never recovered ever since. There is not much potential for improvement since Canada is leftish and at least 50% of it’s GDP comes from resources and associated services, kindly hidden in “others” category by Canada Statistic. Rest comes from real estate, if you are not Chinese with cash or retiring redneck from Alberta, forget to acquire anything of that part - maybe life long mortgage with your partner (as of today statistically single income is not enough to buy property in any major Canadian city) will help you to buy shit condo or house in the middle of nowhere.
    7) If you like dogs, Canada is very dog friendly and this is the awesome place to be.
    8) Canadian airlines are very expensive, tickets Vancouver to Montreal might cost more than Vancouver - NYC. Reason is simple: leftish economy, low population within 2nd largest country in the world so there is not enough competition on this market, there are two shit airlines: AirCanada and Westjet. Both are very average. Also Canada is one the most expensive places for airport fees. Overall it is almost 5 times more expensive than USA if converted $/per KM travel.
    9) Food. Overall food in Canada is good in the grocery and super average in restaurants. It barely exists if compared to Europe/Asia, looking here at Micheline star level/type places.
    10) Canada is a good and balanced but average country, peaceful but by no means a roller coaster in anything with exception of Hockey. Maybe craft beer is great. And yes, it is shit dull and cold during the winters. Maybe Vancouver is different, but it is raining all the time.
    Enjoy.
P.S. my personal take after being in Canada for 10 years, Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto and MTL. Lived in NYC, London and Dubai before.

It’s cold everywhere. It’s expensive everywhere. It’s the king of discrimination in North America if your a white male regardless of education don’t plan on getting a job. Don’t plan on buying a home. Most basement rentals have no control over the heat. If you like a discriminating culture that’s super cold and super expensive this is the place to be.

The small talk thing ... mmmm ... that's not universally true. I'm not even sure it's mostly true. When I go out somewhere, I'll usually just get a "hi" and a "what can I get for you". Where I live in Canada at least, people don't like to be asked too many personal questions from strangers. We find it annoying and tedious.
