A video for this song is dedicated to Thomas Roth, who died in 2019 and was Till's best friend. (sorry for google translate).

Till has used eels a few times in his lyrics as metaphors. Usually representing something earing away at someone mentally like grief or a longing for something. This particular song was written for a long time friend of Till and Rammstein , Thomas Rothe, who passed away from cancer in 2019. He ran a beer garden in which Rammstein had been using for fan meet ups and get togethers for over a decade. His death hit Till rather badly.

Till has a personal connection to water. He was once a competitive swimmer and even qualified for the Olympics as a teenager. His past as a swimmer might influence the frequent references to water and the sea in his work ...

Thomas Roth, Für thomas aka good friend and fan of rammstein, loved fishing, so icon of eels is used. And also Till tattooed whole back of eels and back of hands

My own interpretation is that Till is first seen in the depths of despair. He tried to pull himself out of it but is constantly reminded of his loss and cannot get past it. Solace will only come when he too is gone and he remains his loved one. It's a sentiment that resonates with most people. The loss of a partner, child, family member of friend can seem insurmountable and for some, it does prove to be and sometimes with tragic consequences.

The song is incredibly sad. Very suicidal, the video confirms it. Is based on someone who has unresolved, long-lasting grief of the lost of a loved one and decides to end his life.

With this video, Till has once again managed to reinterpret the lyrics of the song. The text is reminiscent of a man who mourns his deceased wife and is now waiting for his own redemption. But with the video and the text you can tell a completely different story. The question here is, “What after death?” and what is the purpose of God and the purpose of yourself? When the dead man got up and saw God, he turned around and jumped into the sun. And God complained: “Without you I am not.” My interpretation is: It is about exiting the life cycle, not in the Buddhist background (Nirvana), but in the Hindu sense. for example, burning corpses on the holy river Ganges in order to be able to leave the eternal cycle of life. (...but holds me tight with 1000 strong wet arms...)
