Just a little something to remember, when Johnny Gaudreau signed in Columbus (I honestly forget if it was Karmo or Johnny’s agent who said this, might have even been Johnny himself) said they hadn’t received an offer or a call from Columbus and Johnny’s camp reached out to get an offer moving. Maybe they didn’t think they actually had a chance to get him but it always struck me as really weird that they weren’t even testing the waters on the biggest free agent that year when he was clearly interested in going there.

Good points made. He spent time dealing with his mental health for a while. Maybe, the coaches were trying to help out his brain (upper bod injury). but, what do i know.
Laine was right, but the thing is: people forgive you when you are wrong. People never forgive you when you are right. GM Waddell saying the pretty much same thing should make it clear as day. Patty hates losing so much it's detrimental to his mental health. He has always been like that.

@carbb5760 yeah Atkinson, Seth Jones, Werenski, and either Foligno or Nyquist. The fact that the team responded by calling them out for it, and not only did they not dump Laine and Elivis but they traded 4 of those 5 players in the year after this broke. The team did not support opinions from players nor did they keep them anonymous. It doesn't seem like a very well run team the last 5 or 6 years. Lots of players have left and flourished elsewhere, a lot like Buffalo with out the falls.
Ngl I was dissapointed no one stood up, I think Patty is fine but left the game on a "Im getting targeted and I don't want to get a season ending injury again and after this last game its the Christmas break" hopefully I'm right but like Dach last season something that looks so innocent could be very bad.

im a Finn and i root for him like the other finns, but dont love him by any means. What i do like about him, are his interviews and comments which are genuine and unfiltered, things he wants and means to say. Not the same stock answers most players give on the daily
Funny thing is CBJA probably played the hardest ive ever seen they play in forever with some intensity, maybe they should imagine Laine is out there every game, dirtbag org
The Habs were focusing on their game. They mostly outplay the Jackets in 2nd and 3rd period, while the distraction of the game stayed in the locker room. Starting a brawl in the 1st to ramp up the emotion and risk of a violence escalade that leads to potentiel injury was not a good idea. Habs don't need that. MSL manage the situation perfectly imo.
Actually they scored 4 goals and could of easily had multiple more if not for bad bounces. The issue was Monty looked tired he has played 10 straight games and it was 3rd in 4 nights. Poor guy needs a break but Primeau is hot garbage so they are going to ruin Monty if they don't call up a goalie or sign or trade for one. I would not want to trade for a goalie we have prospects coming but something needs to be done if they are not going to play Primeau.
Laine provided bulletin board material and I wished he had not. It was up to him to hit back when he was hit but he couldn’t do it. In one sequence he tried to hit but got a strong reverse hit. He was unable to hit back with a goal and tilt the ice in his favour. I think his teammates will take action if it happens in the next game. For me this was like the situation after a bad hit where the player has to deal with the enforcer on the next shift. Laine had to take his lumps and I hope the injury was minor.
I really like Xhekaj, he improved defensively but I think one of the reason he's in the everyday lineup is to make a physical impact in the game. He needs to learn when to jump in. Unfortunately in the past, he dropped the gloves when he shouldn't have, and I'm sure it played a role in why he didn't fight versus Columbus. Probably scared of sending the team in a 5-min PK.
lane hutson is right up there with cale and quinn. just give it a year. such a talented player. he needs to find a way to score from the point. the assists are great but hes gotta start putting some in himself.
Honestly, I agree. Though, both the comment and the targeting are way overblown from what they actually were according to the video. If you want to break someone, it doesn't look like that, at all. Canadiens also really dropped the ball there by not answering.
I don't doubt they were trying to make life miserable for Laine after the comments he made. Now I do think his comments were fair since it wasn't the first time that the Blue Jackets lack of compete has been questioned by others. Laine just said what others have thought for a few years now which I don't think he should have. Can never give a team any ammunition to use to fire themselves up before a game. Laine might have learned something from this experience. He could have had a twinge or something that the team never wanted to take a chance with so pulled him which was smart to do. As for lack of response there really is only Arber and Anderson that could do much. They have both fought Olivier before and doubt they would be afraid to take on anybody else on the Blue Jackets. Now with that said the hits were clean so really only thing that could really be done was a lot of hard hitting back. I have said it before Marty wants the team to play with skill this year and has pretty well neutered any of the tough guys. Haven't seen Pezz in forever and there have been tough teams he could have been in to play against, this was one of them. Management talks about wanting to get bigger which is great but keeping your rough players on a leash is not going to be a help. Need to let the rough and tough players play that way, skill only gets you so far as the Oilers found out the last playoffs. Oilers have some great scorers but that did them no good when the game got down to rough and dirty, Florida had the players it took to win playoff games. I do like Marty as a coach, he is great for teaching young guys but do think he could use some help behind the bench. Somebody that will get in his ear and say if we are going to go far we need a bit more of an aggressive team.
I agree on the lack of "physical" reaction from his teammates, though I believe they tried to win it for him, and came back to lead the game, but failed...
Liane is correct, Columbus has a issue with building a winning program. The bluejackets have had some awesome players. Any jackets fan will tell you that they could have done more to help out Rick Nash when he was around. They got Bobrovsky and traded him to the cup winning Florida panthers. They were most competitive when they had torts. Even he Didn't last long in Columbus and its probably because of the same reasons Liane mentioned. They have an upper Management issue. Its really sad that they would target him when most of the players know that its true.
I feel like Montreal should of won this game, they had a 4-3 lead. If Caufield or Dach would of buried one of their chances it would of made the difference imo.I think its dumb they would target Laine like that and he got pulled so he didnt get reinjured. Laine is going to score a bunch more goals this season as long as he is in good health. It sucks to lose that game because had they won they would be in a 4 game winning streak right now. They need to find a way to acquire a better backup goalie for Montebeault.
Yeah, it seems to be a thing with the Habs. They didn't protect Slaf, then someone else I can't remember and now Laine. But I'm sure it'll change. They're too young now. Pezz is gone or something, Savard is a soft daddy, and Xhekaj still doesn't know how to start a fight without seeming to want to kill the other guy, and there's no one else to do the dirty work. Slaf would be willing and able, but he still has some growing up to do. So tough luck for Laine this time, but the times are a-changin' and before long the Habs will play well, they'll play hard and they'll win a lot more games.
Unwritten rule that you dont bash your old team/teammates and specially right before playing against them. Cant blame Laine for being honest about that. But did it need to be said. And must be a different type of motivation to help your teammates when they say this kind of stuff. If it was the other way around and Columbus had said bad things about Laine before the game, maybe the guys would have been more inclined to protect him. But columbus did kind of prove his point, by barely being able to beat MTL after this kind of motivation. Pretty sure that Laine did not come back because MTL was trying to avoid him getting even more injured in that game, because Columbus would have continued to run him over.
I don't think Laine actually got injured, I just think they pulled him early before he actually did get hurt. Also, Laine wasn't wrong about what he said (plenty of evidence out there that he was spittin facts), he just shouldn't have said it right before a game with Columbus. At best it was an innocent mistake, at worst it showed poor judgement. The coach for the Blue Jackets was probably extremely thankful that Patty gave his team such easy-to-use bulletin material to motivate his players, especially when the organization has likely (as Patty pointed out) already thrown in the towel for the season.
He called them out as losers, what they are, and paid the price. The question is: Is Patrik extraordinarily bad team player, or are the Blue Jackets extraordinarily rotten team for him to call them out like that? I don't think he just randomly wanted to insult them. You'd think you have to be really fed up with something, to bring it up this late.
Laine wasn’t the problem in Winnipeg or Columbus lol. Wheeler and Schiefele literally bullied Laine. Paul Maurice head coach of Florida panthers said the jets locker room was un coach able to the point he wasn’t allowed to make decision. In Columbus Wrenski went to management and asked for Laine and Merzlekins to be kicked off the team lol. To further add to Laines defense, how many star players or any player for that matter want to willingly play in Ohio or Winnipeg?
Hmmm, Okay. Yes it was probably better that Laine did'nt make those comments, however, you then asked why no one on the Montreal team did'nt mix it up with Colombus for targeting Laine. If they were legal hits, and no intent to injure, why does it matter? I recall that you had made a video, asking why do players, get into fights if it was a clean body check? Don't misunderstand me I love you're videos, and your sense of humour, just making a point here.
Laine is always going to get rocked..not really for what he says, but because battlers have to take away his space and challenge his mental toughness...other wise he will snipe you out of the game. His mobility in tight spaces is restricted. Dach, Laine, Arber, 'Backer and Slav need a special foot-work program with Adam Nicolas to improve their board work-mobility and give-and-take hitting prowess. This growth mindset is needed by the coaching staff.
Blue jackets gm has also spoken about the same thing and Laine said the truth. However, there have been rumors that some players didn't like Laine and I guess they misunderstood on purpose. They even tried to intentionally hurt laine. I think it's crazy
Not sure what you want the boys to step up to protect him from, you said it yourself, it was all legal and he asked for it. If it was getting dirty I'd 100% expect Arber to step up but he was pulled (smartly imo, very much doubt he was actually hurt) before it got to that point. Not at all worried, and getting bent out of shape over a CBJ game just ain't worth the time.
I have to agree with the video pretty much on everything. I felt the comments he made were very unnecessary, I mean why distract from the positive buzz around him right now. Leave the shit in the past where it belongs. I really hope Patty has found a new long term home with the Habs and will be able to get the best out of himself. Would be such a nice story. Finland's gonna need top form Laine in the national team and I wouldn't mind supporting perhaps the most prestigious organization in NHL. So allez, allez, allez, Habs!
Not at all surprised from the lack of response . Zero gritt on habs top 6 and the team captain although very skilled , plays like a schoolgirl . When things get physical that guy folds faster than a lawn chair . Nick the friendly five on five ghost Suzuki .
Habs are not mature enough as a team. CBJ cought them off guard. Msl didn't want to send arber do something about it cuz it was a close match and they wanted the points. But I think they learned a lesson. Would be nice to see them play like cbj did once in a while.
This is what it takes to get your players to show up. Unfortunately for blue jackets fans, it’s supposed to come from the coaching staff and the GM, not good players that don’t want to play there anymore 😂
All true. Is what it is… i could 100% see myself making the same error, or not even error - just going through the same process i guess. Its just a really bad look all around for him.
still the best goddamn intro in the history of youtube channels
IF YOU WANT TO SKILL IT UP THEN YOU BETTER BE PREPARED!
hockey junkie is the greatest channel on youtube and it's not close
Hopefully he talks more shit lol. We need a team with pure hatred. Hockey is boring as fuck without these heated rivalries. Get Pez in , call up Florian. Lets have some fun!!
Laine is an angel some here must of never seen the 80s when we had Lemieux, Nilan, and Chelios shit talking the opponents all game long.
Patrik is too honest for his own good. Even if something is true, it's usually not wise to say it aloud, especially if it concerns work or women.
Stereotypical Finnish trait
😂
Yeah, finnish people can be quite (brutally) honest and straight forward no bullshit type of people in general. And english is not our first language so it might come out even more straight forward than it would be normally. But yeah, as we see it might not be great to say stuff like this before the game (even if it was somewhat true).
Winner
Maybe other people shoul just be more honest about what they think.
they tried to deliberately put hurt on him for his comments but nothing dirty was done but the Habs did nothing..where was Arber at?
Where was Pezetta ?
i don't think he played..up in press box polishing the lumber
St louis wont let him fight
Probably that Columbus wanted to trigger to... they wanted X to "awnser the bell" for Laine. I think it was a coach's decision to just let them (Colombus) cry and play the game instead.
No one was trying to deliberately hurt him. He is just soft lol
I would have liked to see Xhekaj send a bit of a message that game. You can't target our star players.
Marty neutered Wifi!😢
Mathieu Olivier desroyed him last fight, no way WiFi wants any of that.
@@hoolie2000 Hahaha. Sit down there Hoolie. Destroyed?!?! Yeah Xhekaj was knocked out and doing the chicken! Please homeboy may have landed a few more but hardly think he was "Destroyed " You prolly a Mayweather fan too.
@@hoolie2000 Oh fuck off lol Xhekaj took more but still landed more on Olivier than anyone I've seen this season.
@@hoolie2000 I feel like you need a dictionary for the meaning of the word destroyed. lol
I agree with you Hockey Junkie! They didn’t want to risk him getting injured again and saw how they were running him, so pulled him and gave a bogus day to day injury until next game! Which he will be ready to go!
I'm sure most CBJ fans know that what he said is true.
love insight that everybody else missed. subscribed.
My thoughts. I you tube searched for the Fabbro hit and other hits and found nothing. Glad the algorithm recommended this video to me. Good comprehensive video hit breakdown for the fans.
Thank you, cheers!
that was one of my questions where was 72 when Laine was being abused? MTL needs Olivier in Mtl.
Stop putting the fault on 72 when he was doing his job he was getting benched and now look how msl changed his game
he's 6'4". fight your own battles..
Mr. Junkie! I love it! You call it as you see it. I agree with every single word that came out of your pie hole during this entire episode. And I'm with you! I am more than a little irritated at the lack of response from the Montreal Canadiens. They should have been all over anybody that hit Patrick in that game, and there was nothing!
Shame on them and kudos to you for calling a spade a spade. Keep up the great work!
I really like how honest this person is and dont give a F about anything else. I honestly think he was criticizing the management not the players.
very intelligent take - this guy does not miss
you aren't wrong
Good points made. He spent time dealing with his mental health for a while. Maybe, the coaches were trying to help out his brain (upper bod injury). but, what do i know.
As right as Laine might’ve been, probably not the best time to start pouring tea so soon after the Gaudreau tragedy and the connection to Caufield.
I missed that game and have been waiting for your video because I trust your word more than anyone else's
Targeting a player to injure him should be illegal like it is in real life. Ice hockey is so toxic game.
Laine was right, but the thing is: people forgive you when you are wrong. People never forgive you when you are right.
GM Waddell saying the pretty much same thing should make it clear as day.
Patty hates losing so much it's detrimental to his mental health. He has always been like that.
100% in agreement with your comments in the video. Yes Laine is outspoken (part of his character), yes Columbus hit him every change they got (all clean), but as I have commented in previous posts, their response to the situation sucked as you also pointed out!. Once again (broken record time...buffering loop for your younger followers) no heart!
I think your assessment is right on the nose buddy ! Perfect video.
Excellent video ! Merry Xmas !
I have the same Lane Hutson card and by the way your videos are amazing!!!
solid take
Also, with everything the team went through with johnny hockey gaudreau, i woulda stayed quiet on this one being Laine ! But he spoke his mind, cant hate the man for it.
He spoke his mind but it was such a bad take. Jackets are ahead in the standingsnow, laine played terribly while he was there. Just keep your mouth shut and show people you can actually play
@carbb5760 strange that Werenski never mentioned that 2 seasons before he and Attkinson with two other vets on the team had an end of season meeting and asked management to get rid of Laine and Merzlikins because the team.wanted them gone. Yet Zack sells it as "we were nothing but great teammates while he was here"....sure.
@@ScreaminSeamen I hadn’t heard that, to criticize management of an organization that put their trust in HIM to be their player seems pretty strange. They trusted and paid him to elevate the franchise and he didn’t do it, I dunno I just don’t get it. I appreciate the non cookie cutter answer though
Hungover grasshoppers had me 😂 Keep up the good work stud 👌
Ngl I was dissapointed no one stood up, I think Patty is fine but left the game on a "Im getting targeted and I don't want to get a season ending injury again and after this last game its the Christmas break" hopefully I'm right but like Dach last season something that looks so innocent could be very bad.
A front row security Guard in Winnipeg told me Laine was the nicest guy brought coffee for them and was a class act, his parents and family were the same take time out to talk to fans a great raised kid!
He does have a habit of saying the wrong thing but hey it’s his second language, and does have a injury prone career
im a Finn and i root for him like the other finns, but dont love him by any means.
Personnally, I really think Patrick missed a good opportunity to stay silent.
What part of NL you from? I can’t place the accent
Habs just folded as a team.... no response...no heart.. guys just floating for a check...
@bobmatley *could've (could + have = could've)
Everything you said was accurate. Can't complain about that.
Probably scared of sending the team in a 5-min PK.
you're a homer....and you're fair?! this is unheard of on the internet
lane hutson is right up there with cale and quinn. just give it a year. such a talented player. he needs to find a way to score from the point. the assists are great but hes gotta start putting some in himself.
Basic Finnish honesty. Sometimes comes surprise when people are not ok with it.
From one Matt to another I feel your 109% correct
Honestly, I agree. Though, both the comment and the targeting are way overblown from what they actually were according to the video. If you want to break someone, it doesn't look like that, at all.
Canadiens also really dropped the ball there by not answering.
Patrik Laine is a one of a kind human being and athlete. The accuracy of his comments can only be matched by the accuracy of his wrist shot.
Where is this dude's accent from? I dig this channel.
I am from Newfoundland, thanks for watching!
I still remember when Jets fan chanted “ Laine’s better “ when comparing him to Matthew’s . 😂
Not a lot of winning in Montreal either
I agree on the lack of "physical" reaction from his teammates, though I believe they tried to win it for him, and came back to lead the game, but failed...
Learning moment. ,, never talk bad about team cause they use it as motivation.
I totally agree with you on both points
That's just disgusting that they give their former teammate hits just to hurt him when they should know his upper body injury history...
Thank you! The response was WEAK. Figured at least Wifi would drop em.
THx For shaing. Central canada
If blue jackets played like that every game they would have a better record
I don't know if he's really injured but I can see the coach pulling him for his own safety in a meaningless game.
This is the video I have been looking forward to for days.
Not enough hitting in hockey nowadays. At all ends of the rink. It used to be a tough game, not anymore.
Im first yeeeehawwww. Go Habs Go
I don't think Laine actually got injured, I just think they pulled him early before he actually did get hurt.
I think LAINE needed to be a bit more strategic with his answers but he is not A Rhodes Scholar… a hockey player with bad teeth who can shoot a puck
not the first time mtl don't respond for a tm8 (couple years ago with Monty)
Never give the opposition any fuel. He did the same before playing Winnipeg. He has to be smarter than that.
THERE IS REFEREE AND PENALTY BOX.before someone get hurt
Are you new in hockey or wtf? It's normal teams protect their star players.
When they got Celebrini, they were TANKING, not winning on purpose.
Blue jackets gm has also spoken about the same thing and Laine said the truth. However, there have been rumors that some players didn't like Laine and I guess they misunderstood on purpose. They even tried to intentionally hurt laine. I think it's crazy
When Montreal has a marshmallow for a Captain these things happen.
Could it be his new Habs teammates didn’t approve of him badmouthing his ex-teammates and in so doing giving them extra motivation ?
Not at all surprised from the lack of response .
Zero gritt on habs top 6 and the team captain although very skilled , plays like a schoolgirl . When things get physical that guy folds faster than a lawn chair .
Nick the friendly five on five ghost Suzuki .
The other players during that time can't say anything different or they'd be lying. Childish to get angry over some words..
Get traded a couple times, settle in somewhere, make some comments and do some self coping maybe before a game, then uhhoh… this is getting tough. But no big deal itll blow over by the new year - old news
Pulling your star because the game is too rough?
Ya sounds like a Laine move
Where was Jack eye.
Clean or dirty- we should have physically imposed ourselves to defend our super star. Huge lack of response. When is the last time Arbie dropped?

Imagine starting in actual Winnipeg and then going to American Winnipeg and then everyone wonders why you have I lived in Winnipeg and Ohio syndrome.
It’s hockey. You get hit. The jackets were on board, the habs weren’t
Sheriff Arber should have been with him on the ice 24/7 during that game...
Kinda hard when Marty took his guns away😢
