Thanks for the update mate. I watch them all and really enjoy the content finding out what going on in our city. HNY and good luck with your studies. Look forward to seeing more Brissie updates in 2025. Cheers, Adam
I have lived in Brisbane my whole life. It's a little sad that I probably wont be able to buy property here like my parents did because of the insane prices. That being said, its not exclusively a Brisbane problem. As a country, Australia has to have a hard conversation about what we want for our young generations.
Thanks for the update, and good spot on what the report is lacking. Multiple is not the only stick of measurement for affordability, as you have countries with higher interest rates than Auatralia, making it unaffordable in some cases due to the high interest rate.
Someone is paying Demographia to include Brisbane in their report. I've watched their work before and they are all about breaking down the single home / single lot paradigm. This benefits developers because they want the suburbs to be rule-free plundering grounds for higher density. Having a global report that positions Brisbane like this makes it tough for politicians and bureaucrats to reject ideas "to bring prices down" from developers. I bet Demographia doesn't even mention negative gearing or the CBT discount that led to this position.
This is frowned upon in western society but overseas in asia and even some of post-Soviet Europe, you will find the majority of households are 2 or 3 generations living under the same roof. In fact, go back to Industrial Revolution times and it was even normal here.
There has been a trend for children to stay at home for longer as housing has become more unaffordable. There's definitely a cultural aversion to it here, though, and an acceptance of it in some other places. I remember when I lived in China, I went out with a local there who wanted her parents to live with us if we got married. I was horrified by the idea! Probably connected with our respective individualist/collectivist cultures.
But when I do eventually decide to move out, I think I might actually leave Brisbane entirely. Don’t get me wrong, I like it here but I have lived here my whole life and I kinda want to try something different and seek out new opportunities abroad and see where it takes me. Also the housing market here doesn’t look promising so it will probably be a case of me leaving and coming back when I inherit property later in life, if I inherit property.
Damn, I want to move to Australia, particularly Brisbane when I get out of uni, but that’s not for another 4 years. If housing rates keep increasing I’ll have to find another dream city. Coming from the UK btw
It may be time to start looking around at alternatives, as the prices are not expected to stop increasing any time soon. May I ask why Brisbane has been your pick?
@@BrisbaneChannelquality of living pretty much. I know most Australian cities have better QOL compared to the UK but Brisbane just seemed to be the perfect mix of city life and a small town feel where everyone knows each other. Was gonna move to Australia to better my own life and give my future family a better life as well which I don’t think I can achieve in the UK. My only other option was Adelaide but I’m looking into Perth as well.
@@BrisbaneChannelhowever I’m still not out of uni for 4 years and then probably another 4-5 after that before I save enough to move, meaning I’ll move after the 2032 olympics happen which might make stuff increase in price even more.
More people seem to recommend Perth than Adelaide. I lived in Adelaide as a child, but was too young to have any opinion on the place, but I visited Perth for a week and it's definitely a really nice city with a country town pace. Well it was in 2010, anyway.
@@BrisbaneChannelyeah and every ‘top 10’ I’ve looked at always puts Perth very high up. My only complaint about it is it looks so isolated, whereas Brisbane has the Sunshine Coast etc only a few hours drive away

Perhaps demographia has changed but last I looked at one of their reports 20 years ago it turned out it was just paid informercial for property developers. If you looked at the “affordable” cities they were all bereft of sufficient infrastructure, even basic roads. I stopped reading them after that.
Schrinner taking no responsibility for the Cellopark debacle is disgusting. The only reason Brisbane residents have to have a Cellopark account to begin with is because BCC has migrated their on street parking to the Cellopark platform. That's not even to mention the overcharging rort this company thrives on if you forget to log into their app and end the session when you leave an on street car park.
I think where Toombul shopping centre used to be is a great spot for a stadium. And for Brisbane live, where the old Paul’s factory is in south Brisbane. Put Brisbane Live there. And link it up to the kurpila bridge. Be a good spot. Also in addition to an indoor sports centre, I think they need to build another NRL stadium for the Redcliffe dolphins. There currently facilities are too small meaning they have to share Suncorp. If we give them their own stadium, it could be a good legacy for the Moreton bay region. For equestrian, I think RNA Showgrounds should host it. As country as Toowoomba is, transport would be their serious downfall. Also give the Brisbane entertainment centre and Suncorp major upgrades. And make the Gabba a second cbd, a bit like North Sydney or London canary wharf. Brisbane metro must be expanded
Dolphins are fine at Suncorp they get more than enough average attendance at Suncorp the only Tennant that gets shit attendance at Suncorp is the Brisbane Roar but that's what happens when you have shit owners who run the team into the ground
Always interesting. Thanks. One really small nitpick. We're in Australia. The new stations have lifts, not elevators. Let any American viewers learn another new word to add to the ones their kids are learning from Bluey! (Which is from . . .)
You can blame Queensland Rail for that. My language is mostly Aussie, but partly international due to a large chunk of my life living overseas, but in this case, the wording came from the QR updates.
I seriously could not careless about Brisbane Australia olympic games like any. Not everyone enjoys the games and so why should you guys have to spent BILLIONS on something that NOT everyone is 100% satisfied with the games. Brisbane should just grow up rather then focus on games. Because later your going to say... brisbane is now dead after the games.. typical. Happy new year.
There's always facts in media reports. Which facts they select, however, often depends on their biases and agendas. THE Brisbane Channel is no exception, although I do try to keep it as neutral as possible and include enough info to understand the info in as balanced a way as possible.

I think every Australian should spend at least a year overseas. It really gives insight into our own culture when we live in a different one.
People want their own space and their independence after living for 1/5 of their life with their parents. That's normal human behaviour!!!!

Economically, it's justified by supply and demand. Ethically, it's not justifiable, just greed.
It’s completely bonkers isn’t it. I won’t feel one bit sorry seeing these people get crushed when prices do take a hit.
