Starting with iPadOS 15, Apple has given developers the ability to allocate their apps more RAM, allowing apps to use more of the available memory in the iPad to run faster and smoother. For instance, on the highest-end M1 iPad Pro, which features 16GB of RAM, apps can request to use up to 12GB of that available memory. It’s important to note that all Apple devices, including iPads, have a fixed amount of internal data storage and RAM that can never be increased. If you’re running out of storage on your iPad, you can manage your storage better by deleting unused apps or unneeded data, or you can subscribe to a higher tier of iCloud storage. But these methods do not increase the physical RAM in the device. EDIT: As I said, Apple's feature allows apps to utilize more RAM, not increase the physical RAM itself. Some of you seemed to have misunderstood this. Virtual memory and physical RAM are not interchangeable terms. The facts are clear, and I'm not sure what's causing the confusion.
That's been happening for decades in business computing. Cheaper for the manufacturer to ship it fully loaded, client pays just for the amount they need but can be remotely 'upgraded' if needed. It's actually a good idea in terms of manufacturing efficiency.
Yeah, my first thought was "Apple has secret hardware in their devices and, if you rat them out to the internet within earshot, your device explodes immediately"
This is hyperbolic and misinformation. At least iOS actually gets updates, android gets what one of the features dropped by android everything else is vaporware or malware or blow brought to you by all your different device, so-called manufacturers.
This is common in plenty of tech. We often have things on our products we are still developing the software for our having connectors for stuff we want to put in an fco later to add function. This is in the 3d printing industry so another rapidly changing tech.

I've always known this too. They have loads of technology they haven't released yet and put them out in microscopic doses cause they know that's all it takes to wow us into paying thousands for the next new device.
Yeah they like to throttle their features. Before they finally got wireless charging, people were acting like they "couldn't figure out how to do it" as if wireless charging is rocket science. Some random Joe Schmo can build wireless charging in their bedroom well within the span of an afternoon if they wanted to. It's not rocket science, they just take pleasure in holding off till the last possible moment for the sake of profit.
I love when companies do stuff like this. Arri did this with the viewfinder on their cameras. The screen was a touch screen but wasn’t enabled for the first 2 ish years.
I will add that with the 2nd generation Macbook Pro they included 802.11 wireless N chips but on release they were only advertised and capable of wireless G. Apple then offered that feature as an update for $5 initially. When people complained, they lowered the price to $2 (this is all from memory so some details may be off, but you get the idea). No idea what happened after that but I suspect it became a free feature update for that model sometime in the future.
Honestly makes sense. I’m sure a lot of hardware companies do things like this. Put something in knowing the update schedule for the next couple years. Then you get to give current users a new feature
I noticed you are using that new mic. I got some myself, but I have not had a chance to use them. How much after-audio work did you have to do for this video? Also, I noticed that there was little room tone going in. Is that becuse you are just using the mic for Skylark audio, or did you also use other mics for this?
Great to be reminded that they can just put shit in there and turn it on whenever they feel like it
