I've had an MO6 for years but could NEVER figure out how to make a drum loop on the sequencer until I watched this video. I never knew it was so simple. I even created a track using the drum loop I made on the MO6. This video was a BIG help - Thanks!
This should be considerd a "legacy" video for the M06 and M08 basic pattern information. It simply works. It is appreciated, dude. Thanks from Texas, USA
Hey Chris, in case of polyphony-loss, you could choose the upper tracks like 13-16 for the drums, that should take much less of your polyphony-range. But don't count me on that, 'cause I just heared it in a nother video and didn't tried it for my self yet. God bless! - Dirk
@iderren i started of with just a cheap keyboard and my computer. i didnt really start doing my better music until i got the mo6. midi keyboards are ok if you have a good range of sounds on your computer. but it means that you need the computer on before you can play anything. what i liked about my mo6 and xs6 is that i can play it on its own. if you can afford the mo6 or another keyboard with its own sounds then i would go for that. also i use sonar and its really good.
@ddvd you can save your patterns and songs to usb. but it only plays back on the mo6. if you want to listen to your song you need to record it in something like sonar. yes you can save midi to usb.
thanks Dirk. i have the XS6 now so its not a problem. but i did used to put the drums on the 16 th track and it did make a difference. so you are right. cheers
@sntg07 My understanding is that you cannot "save your music" to a USB, you can only save the MIDI's to the USB. I could be wrong, but that's my understanding.
Thanks, very helpful. Now, how do you then make that pattern into an arpeggio? Or is there another way to make user arpeggios? I can't seem to find that information...
Thanks. But can you explain: after you record the drum track, how do you play it back while you play another voice over it, such as the piano? When I hit "piano" it wants me to turn off the sequencer, which stops the drum from playing.
@sntg07 the best way is to record your song into something like sonar. then you can render it as a mp3 and put it on your ipod. i have 26 of my own songs on my ipod by doing it that way.
on the mo6 i have a memory stick in the back which i use to save my patterns. on the mo you press the file button and it then gives you the option to save load etc. you then just save the file
Hi can you please consider creating a MO youtube tutorial where you actually build a drum pattern first one part at a time (I suppose that would be STEP PROGRAMMING) rather than used pre-programmed beats? Everyone is using pre-programed phrases when doing sequencer tutorials. For example...TRACK ONE bass drum, TRACK TWO snare drum, TRACK THREE high hat. Then some instruments such as TRACK FOUR bass guitar, TRACK FIVE keys.etc...? This would be much more helpful than using these pre-fab beats
@sntg07 press the file button, press the f2 button to save, press the yes or no button to scroll through to the section you want to save. e.g. the pattern.(allpattern) name the file and save.
Maybe you can help me!? I used my MO6 as a MIDI Controller for a while now, but now it won't work as normal synth anymore, maybe i'm just missing something, it's powered up but it just doesn't makes any sound? Not with headphones on and not if i connect him to my interface with my monitor speakers as output... Please help?
Do you know how to record with the default effects on? For example, when I play the clavinet nu phasing patch in non-record mode, I hear the phaser effect. However, when I record the same patch it is dry. Any ideas? Thx
Hey Cheis, I was wondering. How do you cut out a piece that you just recorded? Say I make a song but realize I don't like the way the piano sounds and wanna get rid of just the piano. How can I do that? And is there any way to auto-correct your drum beat that you've made to make them right on beat? Thanks!
@zinger7863 are in in pattern mode? as you can see in the video i play the drum loop and press the 2nd track and start playing. you should be able to press play and choose you next track with out stopping the loop.
it looks to me like the mo6 has the same sequencer. so it should work. the motif classic has about the same polyphony so you should be able to add piano to your mix.
Guys, get access to the same beat making tools as the pros use doesn't need to be difficult (I used to feel it did). I'll give you some advice right now. Search a beat making software called Kinoteron Beat Turbo (do a search on google). I probably shouldn't even be mentioning it because I don't want a bunch of other guys out there running the same "game" but whatever, I'm in a great mood today so I will share the wealth haha.

Chris.very nice video i wach your videos.long time..im still.using my mo6 !!!
You think the company would have a dvd of all this it would help sell more keyboards i don't understand what they are thinkin?

@dcell07 thanks. use the arrow keys to move on to the 4/4. then use the yes key to move the 4 upto 8.

@Imgoshine yes. i have a 1gb stick which i leave in all the time.

was not aware of the Yamaha forum. Link? Thanks.
Thanks, very helpful. Now, how do you then make that pattern into an arpeggio? Or is there another way to make user arpeggios? I can't seem to find that information...
@clonewolf4 you could try using something like sonar or cubase. layer the parts that way
THANKS for your Tutorial! You just saved me from buying a drum machine... Thx Again
was not aware of a Yamaha forum. Link, please? Thanks!

THANK YOU!! I build songs on the fly so i build drum loop on track one as it loops and then i go to track 2 and play keys. It works for now
Thanks for posting this. The manual certianly does not make it this easy to understand how to do this.
@sntg07 the best way is to record your song into something like sonar. then you can render it as a mp3 and put it on your ipod. i have 26 of my own songs on my ipod by doing it that way.
hey chris, great video. one question though. How do I change the measures in the loop function from 4 measures to 8?
Very helpful video. Thanks. I have an M0X8. Will the process be substantially different?
Not sure. It depends on if they have changed the mechanics or not. You could try it.
on the mo6 i have a memory stick in the back which i use to save my patterns. on the mo you press the file button and it then gives you the option to save load etc. you then just save the file
Thank you for showing me how to do a drum loop for the yamaha mo.

@ddvd yes i have that problem i want to hear my music on my ipod but i cant ¿So the only way to do that is by saving midi or waht?
You could also select track and the divide drum track option.
I have another keyboard (not the mo6) that cannot loop the drum track. How would you suggest that I make a drum beat with this?
i think you need to goto the signal track and cut it out. not sure about the auto correct. i dont have the mo6 anymore so i cant check.
Hey Chris. Have you got any material on creating arppegios? by both paying the parts and using the presets? Tks
Maybe you can help me!? I used my MO6 as a MIDI Controller for a while now, but now

@petersedin any loops you do on the mo6 will be the sample length. so you will not have to match them.
Do you know how to record with the default effects on? For example, when I play the clavinet nu phasing patch in non-record mode, I hear the phaser effect. However, when I record the same patch it is dry. Any ideas? Thx

just got this keyboard in 2021. Where can I get memory card and the foot pedal?
It might be worth looking on eBay. I would check the manual for what card it takes.
@@chrisc74 thank you so much!

How do you save your the songs that you do?

@@MrTknox19 I don't have this anymore but from what I remember you can use loops. you play them and record it into the song sequencer.
