So we had a visit from Callum, all the way from Plymouth! 😯 Who brought his own vehicle on a Recovery Truck - as you will see in the video there was good reason as his Friction Plate had Physically Melted! 🔥

Hellooooo, owner here!
1. Handbrake: The winch on the truck failed, so the only way to get the car on it was to drive it up on the starter. These Volvos have ‘flick to start’ which means it still tries to start even if you release the ignition switch. Also, at starter RPM, there’s no vacuum to operate the brake servo. I’ll leave you to imagine the scene that played out and the possible reason why the handbrake (and footbrake!) got heavily mashed! (Oh and the trip up took 8 hours in snow and all sorts, sorry for being late!)
2. Clutch: As in the video, the slave cylinder was on the way out and failed completely whilst booked in at BD. When the car was parked, the clutch would seize on (presumably brake fluid), and the only way to free the clutch was to hold the clutch down, put it in gear, hard on brake and handbrake, and key it over, which would free it with a bang. I’ve no doubt that the damage to the clutch was caused by that... unconventional starting process, but it was the only option I had for the time being. It’s a shame to kill that clutch as it handled 316bhp/384lbft (probably a little more with the plenum, intake and crossover fitted after the dyno) for 5 years without a problem.
3. I think we had a bit of a misunderstanding on the oil leaks, I thought on the phone you said you didn’t have time to fix them, otherwise I’d have been more than happy to get them sorted. Regardless - a new oil filter housing, turbo oil drain gasket, RS oil cooler with new O-seals are on order for a start.
4. Parts: Intercooler and pipework is do88.se as mentioned, the crossover is a Snabb one.
Thanks guys for going all out to get the car sorted, it’s nice to deal with a garage who knows what they’re doing and aren’t out to do jobs as cheap as possible. I’ll get the car in a bit of a better state and I’m sure a trip can be arranged once this is all over to make that video you wanted to make in the first place - how the C30 compares to the Focus 👍

Question for you, or even bd performance. When doing the block mod, installing shims, what else did they have to replace or install.

@@AureonTech Belts and all the usual gubbins of a timing belt service, I asked them to replace all the idler/tensioner pulleys as I had a squeak beforehand, plus the parts required to lift the head, so head gasket etc. BD do a full parts kit on their website I believe.

This version of the T5 is found in the C30, S40 Mk2, V50, and C70 mk2. It's also found in slightly modified form in the V40 Mk2.
People have put Focus lumps in the C30 without issue so presumably it works both ways. In terms of engine specification the main difference is the Volvos do not have a sound symposer, and has longer gear ratios.

Have to admit, the C30 does feel really comfy in comparrison to the ST225 and are great to drive (though only driven one as stock). Surprising really, considering they pretty much weight the same and are (as near as) the exact same platform.
The only issues for me on the C30 is the interior looks a bit naff, (in my opinion, I know how dare I have an opinion) comfy seats mind, the rear look of the car is a bit off and you can only get them in 2dr and I dont like owning 2dr cars.
Always liked the Mk2 Focus facelift look (to be honest, I'd maybe tweak the dash a bit), was going to get a 2.0 titanium, but when I saw the opportunity to own the ST instead, could not pass that up after wanting one since they came out :D

I got a 2008 volvo c30, 1.6 petrol. 150 000km/95 000 miles, and it has a very stiff clutch pedal. I just bought the car so i can't say for how long the pedal is like this. Any tips on what it might be and what to try first before replacing the entire clutch kit?

this is interesting as i thought the volvo C30 didnt need the block mod like the mk2 focus ST on always comments on facebook ford bored out the engine, to squeeze abit more power out of the engine and why the Volvo C30 didnt need it

It’s the same engine. In fact, it’s a Volvo engine, not a Ford one. Ford gave Volvo the C1 chassis and Volvo gave Ford a T5 that would fit in it.
The C30 makes pretty much exactly the same power (technically the later ones make 230 so more than an ST225, but it’s a complete technicality and for all intents and purposes they put out the same power)
