Good stuff - I’m getting my Aussie pupper in a few weeks so I’m getting myself educated. I just wish you would script this and get to the point more quickly. I’m more than half way through this video to learn about walking to heel and you’re still on your preamble about why it’s important.

I agree, I watched the whole video and still seems more promotional to direct people to their courses, which is understandable. I just wish there would’ve been some practical helpful tips considering the title of the video.

TH-cam has lots of dog/puppy training videos. For fun search TH-cam for Aussie doing yoga.

Absolutely agree - too much unnecessary verbiage - get to the point - use the Kiss principle; Keep It Simple S_ _ _ _ D.

Hmm, I think these guys are great. However, this video was not a How to video. It was a motivational speech for the human to seek help in getting their fur-baby to not pull on walks. It was not at all useful.

Hey Terri, thanks for watching! We have a number of demonstration videos over on our main training channel and a few looking at pulling, but here's one you might find helpful: th-cam.com/video/DU1Kz7NWrWc/w-d-xo.html

Just curious if it’s suggested to use prong collar for a dog that’s 14 months? Or is it still worthwhile to utilize the positive reinforcement ?

I just found your channel & website today. Merry Christmas to me! I will be getting an Aussie this next year (2021) as my best friend breeds and raises them. So happy to follow your TH-cam and also purchase your training when I get a month or two before I will be getting my puppy to learn some before I actually get the dog. I want to start out right.

So, I've had two Aussies for nearing 8 months, but my dad is *_S T U B B O R N_* to the point that he won't let me take the dogs on a walk until HE is ready to take them which, we've had them since 2 months old. We do have a big backyard they run around to get energy out, but that's not enough. So they NEVER had previous training. And they pull and pull and pull and PULL. Because we never took them on a walk when younger, when I'm now realizing we SHOULD have. Because now, as much as I try and regain their focus on their first walk EVER we couldn't control them even with harnesses. We have to now get headcollars, better harnesses, etc. just to manage them. We have e-collars but I don't want to SHOCK my dogs. Ugh. My dad is so fucking stubborn and I'M THE ONE WHO'S TRAINING THOSE DOGS. He isn't listening to the trainer. He's just to fucking stubborn. But, I'm thinking of getting a border collie, and so hopefully I'll manage to get my future bc to walk normally from the beginning.

A dog doesn't live in the past, you could modify those behaviors with patience, I would recommend lots of exercise prior to a walk and to walk them daily for 60 minutes as this also improves your mutual relationship. I know this as I adopted an aussie that only knew his backyard for his first year of life and became pretty destructive and noisy (similar to yours). All of those previous behaviors are gone for him and he doesn't pull at all. Also try using a halti as an alternative

What do you do for jumping? Everyone in my family with any dog and my step sons moms German Shepard are Z HORRIBLE at jumping on people and scratching everyone up. We get our puppy next week and I absolutely do not want that issue

My puppy doesn't really pull on her leash unless she's excited or anxious to get home. I simple yank her leash and tell her NO! I got my Aussie when she was 2 months and started walking her immediately, after getting her leash, harness and shots/tags. Now, she came to me very skittish and reserved, unlike her brother who is very outgoing. Her first couple of walks were a chore to say the least and it took some time for her to actually like going... Like if she sees her leash and harness she gets happy.. As long as it's not a long walk she's fine. The longer the walk the more anxious she gets and the more she acts out. While on her walks her tail is between her legs. I don't get it.
Her bad habits on these walks? 1. She constantly stops to sniff EVERYTHING! Literally every second she will stop to sniff something. She doesn't even go to the bathroom on these walks so I know full well she's just stopping to "sniff the roses." That's not what I want. I want to WALK, not stop every damn second! Especially when it's hot and humid but I wanna get our exercise in. (My old morkie used to do this and all I needed to do was pull on the leash and he'd stop and just walk for the rest of the walk.)
    2. She won't walk on the inside. She walks near the edge of the sidewalk and will try to walk in the street if something spooks her. This is bad since she's a timid puppy.
    3. She will do circles around me making me have to constantly switch hands with the leash. She constantly trips me this way and/or I step on her. She's already tripped me down the stairs nearly breaking my foot.
She has a training collar on but I forget to take the remote on walks with me. I will make it a point to take it with me. Although I need to buy another prog bolt because her brother loosened one and it fell off her collar. So the shock doesn't work as good, but I never really needed that anyway. The vibration works good enough to keep her in line. Even just holding the remote is effective, and I barely use the remote. She's a smart dog and picks up on things quickly. No surprise since Aussies are super smart and quick learners.
Maybe I'm just used to having small dogs but she's definitely a work in progress. But I think I got lucky because she's not as bad as most Aussies I've heard about.

I feel like my dog is too smart. When I do use a prong collar or a slip lead, he knows and doesn't learn when i don't use the right collar. He goes back to his usual behavior even though i use a reward system when he does well.

Hi Happy Holidays I love your Chanel and I have a amazing Aussie 5 month old , she is amazing and vey intelligent. I train her 1 hr a day and walk her 2 hr per day. My question is I would love to see your philosophy in action - show some examples on your next video. It’s hard to understand your accent - thanks and keep up the great work.

I clicked on this because of the title "How to STOP your Australian Shepherd Pulling On Walks", yet no where in this video does it tell you how to make that happen. So misleading.

Thanks for the valuable information, although it always seems to boil down to one, should have done the preparation beforehand rather than solving the problem in the present moment... Easy advice, but not particularly helpful. Another issue is your rather non-stop machine gun style of speaking which tends to be very wearing on the brain. I realize of course that you have a regional accent which is fine, but it seems to involve a voice which never changes, pitch or tenor, and which aggressively plows through the words and sentences in an almost overpowering manner. Rather like the dogs you wish to train! Time to get a harness and to learn how to ease up and speak gently occasionally. Then your business will be able to take in your rather feisty delivery
