The usta videos are universally poor. Embarrassing really. There were better points even in the few matches they chose to use. I think they have some clueless intern make these - somebody with little knowledge of tennis - not just the specific subject matter but the game itself. “Wow!! McEnroe ran right into the net on that one and he hit it and won that point! “. Yeah… he does a point like that about 40 times a match….
They had a Michael stich career highlights one that was the worst I saw…. They didn’t even try on that one…..

You know, the Tennis Authorities should amend the equipment rule book and depressurise the balls a tad bit. This will bring back the net-attacking, and serve and volley game back, and make tennis more interesting. It's quite boring to see Nadal and Djokovic going bom-bom groundstrokes all day long.

It's the opposite, depressuring balls has killed serve & volley because with modern racquets there is too much advantage for baseline players against any brave net player. I think that serve & volley could be revived setting a limit on racket size, let's say 85, baseline players will be disadvantaged, top spins more difficult

It´s amazing to see how much tennis changed from his matches in 1979 to his matches in 1992. He played in an era of fast transition and still he managed to be succesfull both against old-school players in the 70s and top-spin baseliners in the 90s. If you take Nadal, Djokovic, Federer... they have not seen that much change in tennis throughout their careers.

I was happy to see Borg hit a ball. Haven't seen any footage of him in 10+ years. Course. Started watching tennis in the late 70's, and McEnroe was THE most exciting player I've ever seen. The temper. The skill at going from rage to finesse player. He had power, but the 'touch' was why I say 'finesse.' Wow. Brings back memories. We have the 3 best players of all time, where they should be, but McEnroe was so divisive. I heard 4 people got heart attacks in Sweden from watching McEnroe/Borg at Wimbledon, one year.

A bit surprised at some of these choices. The Lendl clip was a 'meat and potatoes' point in Macs repetoire. Sure Lendl had a pwerhouse forehand and was a great rival but maybe the 1987 point against Lendl where Mac does a 180 spin around and 'feels' the ball reverse crosscourt? Quite a few 'emergency' lunge volleys ( fromberg) or desperate flicks ( v Sampras ) that were impressive but Mac was reknowned for his great hands so I was expecting at least one of those drop volleys and touch shots. Still, it's always great to see clips of the master

I've been on a classic McEnroe youtube kick, i think i've watched pretty much every video out there. I started watching tennis at the tail end of the classic Borg / McEnroe rivalry. Maybe it's just me but nothing does it for me like watching classic clash of style baseline vs. serve and volley with wooden rackets. McEnroe was a maestro. Each player seemed to have personalty.
Now it just seems like a bunch of running from baseline to baseline hitting the same shot over and over again for hours.
I really do feel like something was lost from the beauty of the game with the switch to the large head widebody rackets made of materials other than wood.
I can't remember where, but in one McEnroe interview he makes an interesting and salient point: in baseball they moved to aluminum bats for youth baseball and people learning the game but kept the wooden bats for the pros. Tennis should have done the same. It's a lesser game now. You really had to know how to use touch and finesse and had to hit the ball better with the smaller sweet spot of the wooden racket.
