    One of my favorite lefties ever to grace the game . His serve wasn’t powerful but was precise . A natural serve and volley player with a great touch . I have never seen a better leftie on grass or any surface this good With that. Wooden racquet 😊

    • @chocolatetownforever7537

      Had tennis stayed wooden, he would have won SO many more tourneys bro lol. Composites, graphite, and oversized heads really brought the power and accuracy that wooden racquets didnt have. It made Mac a step or two further from the net on his serve, and allowed guys to pass him easier.
      Trying to use wood, with small and unforgiving heads, to pass John enough to beat him, was almost impossible.
      Mac won without wood, but man, if it stayed that way, he may have doubled his number of slam wins. Guys like Becker, Lendl, and others, wouldnt havee been able to blow him off the court with their power.

    McEnroe’s game was perfect for the string and racquet technology of the time. Once the power and spin technology came to the forefront, he was at a disadvantage. As his head to head with Lendl showed towards the end of his career. But in the era of wood racquets he was unmatched. Maybe Laver was comparable, but I never saw enough of his matches to tell me that.

    • @chocolatetownforever7537
      @chocolatetownforever7537 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Had tennis stayed wooden, he wins SO MANY more tourneys and slams. Mac won without wood, and was a top ten guy, but the change from wood to graphite realky hurt him.
      Passing him 40 times a match with wood was REALLY difficult. Just not enough power to do it, and wood with the smaller heads were so much lesd forgiving, and that extra power, cost him atleast another step closer to the net off of his serve, which is HUGE for a serve and volleyer.

      @michaelbarlow6610 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @DownTheRabbitHole. It is impossible to accurately determine which male tennis player was the greatest volleyer of all-time. Kramer, Laver, McEnroe, Edberg, Becker and Sampras were all outstanding volleyers. I don't think there is much doubt, however, that John Patrick McEnroe Jr. had the greatest diversity of shotmaking skills the game of tennis has ever seen! This is the first time I have ever seen that incredible shot that McEnroe made at the U.S. Open against Vince vanPatton after the desperation backhand retrieve by vanPatton hit the netcord, fell over on McEnroe's side of the net, went between McEnroe's legs and McEnroe quickly spun around and gently bunted the ball into the wide open court! I have never seen that point on any of the U.S. Open highlight videos that CBS Sports showed during the U.S.Open during the mid-to-late 1980's and 1990's. Many, many years ago, CBS Sports during a U.S. Open broadcast, put together a videoclip of what they considered the greatest shots in the history of that major tournament and incredibly they failed to include that point from the McEnroe vs. vanPatton match!

      Not trying to be a jerk, but there is a possibility that none of those players even make it professionally if they grew up with wood.
      They may have anyway, but small wood heads, and oversized graphite heads, is night and day. Those wooden racquets even had lousy grips. I remember playing with them as a kid.
