I suppose the Mistwalker games did help to popularise the 360 with the hardcore crowd in Japan to some degree, but they are also a prime example of that you can't simply buy your way into quality. Of the two 360 games, I like Lost Odyssey a lot more, in fact I gave up on BD before the first disk was over. I love Akira Toriyama's artwork, but make no mistake, this is no Dragon Quest.

Even with the flaws I will always love this game.. I remember being around 7 years old playing this and I didn’t even get that far to where we meet Zola but I loved it so much.. Even my mom who didn’t play video games enjoyed playing it. Maybe if I played any further I would think differently about it especially because of the story but I was just a kid who couldn’t pass the difficult parts. So I will just remember the the good parts about it and just pretend I didn’t hear about where the the story went downhill..
This game has a very special place in my heart. It was really the first game I fell in love with as a child and pretty much my only good memories of my father are of playing the game with him. I’ve been playing it again recently and I think it still holds up well. If you have an Xbox 360 or Xbox one I’d absolutely recommend giving the game a shot.

Found my old copy and decided to throw myself at Impossible mode this week, got curious on how the game was viewed from a reviewers eyes, and this is well made. Gonna have to watch more of your stuff!

I used to play this game at my cousins house and I think the novelty of the jrpg genre as well as the ost and the fact that I never got to play enough of this game because I was never at my cousins house often enough to get my fill of this game places this game in the highly nostalgic category for me in my memory. I’d still like to play this game someday but Ive never owned an Xbox
Absolutely loved this game personally. Random encounters as well as boss battles would actually require some strategy, the art style and soundtrack was great, replayability was great since there was so much stuff to find and had multiple difficulties, Monster designs were creative and awesome, the game was paced very well, Shu seemed very generic at first but grew to be a pretty decent protag imo, even Jiro started to become less boring as the game went on, the combat animations were cool (even though it hurt the frame rate sometimes) there was lots of fun optional content, acquiring new skills and accessories was incredibly satisfying and though the story was definitely not perfect, I'm glad it didn't try TOO hard and give you way to much cutscenes and/or dialogue, the game just kind of lets you get on with it for the most part. I love the idea of magic being in the form of shadow creatures as a concept and the twist near the end was pretty good. 8/10 game at least for me but for anyone wanting a good story, I'd say that Lost Odyssey shits on this game in that regard.
I was watching a YT gaming channel and then that led me, for various reasons, to remember about this game. I just knew there would be some sort of review on YT and I found this one! I completed this game years ago and just watching this YT video brings back all the memories of it. Such an underrated game!
Love this game with all my heart. I always hold out the hope we will get an announcement of a remaster to this game to fix the issues that weren't ironed out in the origional version. Maybe add more content aswell, and most importantly, get it all on one disc. This world just has SO MUCH they can use for a really kickass experience.

Lost Odyssey has my second favorite final boss theme in a game... and I only just realized my top 4 are all done by Nobuo Uematsu. One of my very first RPGs was this game! I never finished it but every single time I think about it I regret that. The story is fascinating the characters are beautiful and fun! I miss this game and I think I'm going to finish it before I turn 25 🤔

They made two more Blue Dragon sequels on the DS. So it already exists. I assume it was due to MS but wanting to continue the series but owning the Intellectual property. MS wasn’t in the handheld market so they didn’t mind.
I wouldn't mind seeing a side by side comparison between the English translation and the original Japanese dialogue. I have a feeling the localizers dropped the ball here.
This game was my childhood I remember barely any of it though. When I think of it I think of another show I vaguely remember where a kid named Nissan or something is turned into a robot???
I remember playing thru most of the 1st disc, maybe even part of the 2nd disc of Blue Dragon before I just had to return it to the store cuz I couldn't bring myself to play it anymore... However, the fact BD is a Minecraft prequel has me second guessing...
This game's main flaw looked to me that the combat is too simple and easy. Right from the beginning the combat becomes trivial in difficulty and then the class system seems to make it even more trivial. Ironically, they probably drew the inspiration directly from Final Fantasy V, which was actually a really challenging game to play around with, but also gave you the freeing power of combining job abilities as an almost secret class. The enemies are just throwaway and that is kind of funny since the start of the game looks like it will be challenging with your characters being hugely underpowered. Also, limit breaks that are not interactive are the worst and they should have learned this by that point, but it is a problem that even ended up in a later game (Mirage Sessions).

At the same time, im only 14, so in the times ive had it before, i had to come over childhood fears, like going through the hospital ruins, the forest of the dead, and the valley of murals. 4. The farthest ive ever made it was getting Kluke's shadow back, then the disc stopped working. Again. 5. Prolly would've been better if all the discs could just be packed into one, main reasoning being discs always get fucky, so if one disc gets fucked, the rest are unplayable. 6. Bout to play it rn. First time ive died was in Gul Mountains. 7. Best character is Toripo 8. Maro's dad is insane 9. What about the evil dragons? I know its a side quest but they're still kick ass and cool bosses. [Cue "The Moody Dragon is Offended!]
i know this game is rather mediocre, but that doesn't stop it from being one of my favorite games ever. I'm even replaying it, currently on Disk 2. Like i wish this game was better so that more people would love it like i do but oh well. Guess you cant have your cake and eat it too.
