I believe this concert was at Wembley in 1986 and if that is correct then Freddie would have been nearly 40 years old. He passed away in November 1991 after his 45th birthday in the September. I can't get enough of Queen's music. I've been a fan from the start even if I was a child then. Keep those reactions coming, great to see a new generation of Queen appreciation. Freddie is a legend and you will never get four well educated and talented musicians and song writers to their standard again.

    HEY Hon,
The band members ages at the time of this concert (1986):
Bass Guitarist John Deacon - 35
    Drummer Roger Taylor - 37
Lead Guitarist Brian May - 39
Freddie Mercury - a couple months before his 40th birthday
    (Since you asked!)
Freddie almost always wore white - usually in combination with some other color - because he wanted people in the audience to be able to SEE him, even if they were wayyy in the back. (Not counting his black-leather-Biker-Dude look for awhile in the late 70s!)

Great reaction. The rhythm just comes out of his body. He can’t help it. So graceful. Unrehearsed choreography. Yes he is known for that jacket and yellow was his favorite color. H helped design his outfits. He did do some clothing design in art school. That stage was humongous and he used it to his advantage as exhausting as it was.
Great riff by John. Vanilla ice was sued for using it without permission. Strong voice and great lyrics. David Bowie collaborated on this one while they were jamming together in Montreax, Switzerland where queen had a studio and Bowie lived.
There is a statue of Freddie on Lake Geneva and he is wearing that jacket. Look it up.

    • @neuralmute
      @neuralmute 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The statue is amazing. I saw it when I was on a student exchange way back in high school, and a couple other exchange students and I got weekend rail passes to do some exploring together. The Freddie statue was brand new when we were in Montreux, and we got a bit emotional over it. Then we took turns taking each others' pictures with Freddie. (This was way pre-selfies - or cell phones!) Some may have been mildly tasteless, but in defense, we were 16. And I like to think that Freddie would have wanted people touching his statue's lovely bum! Maybe it's good luck, like rubbing Buddha's belly?

    - White Queen
    - I’m In Love With My Car
    - The Days Of Our Lives
    - It’s Late

Hurricane Freddie swept along the stage. 😀 Freddie was boxing in his boarding school years, and he was moving onstage with a boxer's agility. The band had a studio in Montreux, where David Bowie visited them once, they started jamming and John Deacon the bass player came with the famous riff out. They went to have a dinner together, returned to the studio, but Deacy totally forgot the riff and then Roger the drummer was who exactly remembered on that.

Yeah, Vanilla Ice was a bitch, lol. He sampled this and added one note. He did so to spoof the Neilson radio metrics and push his own mediocre song into the charts, and got his ass sued for it. And this riff was so iconic, ripping it off gave him his one and only actual hit.
At the time, select radio listeners would have a device that tracked how long they listened to a song, and if they stayed tuned in for X number of seconds, it would be recorded as a full listen (kind of like how TH-cam today tracks views). So people would hear that intro and think it was the Queen/Bowie duet and keep listening just long enough for him to get credit for the listen and bump his metrics. Once that hits critical mass, he gets more plays and the radio stations start pushing it on everyone. To his credit, what he lacked in musical talent, he did make up for in business acumen, lol. He's not an idiot, he played the system very well.
But in doing so, people started tuning out on the original, fearing it was the Vanilla Ice song instead of the Queen song, so it damaged the reputation of the original by a statistically significant margin, costing Queen and Bowie to lose money. So the label sued and it settled out of court for a large sum.
There is a place for Sampling in music, but most of it in the 90s was a scam.

Gutted to see that you missed the first part of Under Pressure live at Wembley. He did his infamous "call and response" to the crowd, it was amazing and sorry that you missed it !!!

The song was written by Queen and David Bowie the radio version is both but David never sung it in concert with them. Yes they sued Vanilla Ice for stealing the bass rif and won

They was in their 30s doing this Freddie died of aids in November 1991. But I’d highly recommend for you to watch the film bohemian rhapsody it explains a lot about their lifestyle together and how they was friends. Freddie got aids before he met his partner. He left most of his money to Mary (his first love - and who song love of my life is about)…he always loved her and had her in his life. He left money to his family and partner. He always said Mary was it’s impossible to replace Mary as she was his common law wife, to him it was a marriage as they believed in each other. Freddie was godfather to Mary’s eldest son and left his home to her in his will. They remained friends till end it’s beautiful 😍
