    Imagine having thousands of hours in WoW, probably far more hours in Minecraft, owning and playing hundreds of board games, including talking in this podcast about changing rules for 10 minutes, having a Steam library with hundreds of games, of which you've played most of them, creating and owning a company that creates content from video games, going to gaming conventions for a decade, making a humble bundle with over 30 different game keys for 5 years straight, requiring extensive communication with game developers.... and then having the _audacity_ to suggest you're not a gamer.

      Yeah, but only because Lewlew is an old school nerd, from back when being a nerd wasn't cool. He rolls over and let's non-nerds claim our title. Every console peasant with a copy of Fifa and Skyrim call themselves a gamer nower days, heck people that only play Sims and Animal Crossing consider themselves gamers in todays world. The reality is that a gamer is someone that plays games from different genres, explores new titles and developers, someone that actually immerses themselves in the gaming world, not just people with a hobby.

      Some people feel like the term gamer is too toxic/has too many negative connotations, so don't like to label themselves as part of that. Ben Potter of Triple Jump and Vidiots has spoke at length about it before and I'm very much on the same page.

    • @lockyhocky2

      @@Relyx So you are a pushover? The word "gamer" has no connotations other than that given by it's definition.

    • @Relyx
      @Relyx 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lockyhocky2 Everyone's definition is different though. To some it's anyone who plays any form of game, whether it's board games, mobile games or PC MMOs. To others it's people who immerse themselves in the culture to the point they actively follow new releases and news. There are some who see gamers as basement dwellers living with their parents playing CoD with cheeto dust on their fingers. Then there's people who only think people who play games on their platform are "true gamers". There are whole lot of gamers who say other people aren't gamers because they don't play games enough hours of the day to qualify, or they don't play the right type of games. So it's just a shitty term that people use to put themselves in their own exclusive club of supposed superiority. So yes there are connotations, and it all stems from prejudices that vary from person to person.
      I'm not a pushover, and I don't hide the fact I play games. I just don't use the label "gamer". I just say I play video games.

      @@a.garcha199 Aye, but he's going off the 1980s-90s denigrating stereotype of a "gamer". And why shouldn't he? That is what he was brought up on, before he was old enough to have his own rational appraisal skills and independent thought.
      And your post was a nonsequitur. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with either part of my post.
      1) He was asked his definition, and "but he's what *I* think of as a gamer even more than the sort he describes!!!!" is 10,000,000% irrelevant, you weren't defining gamer for him.
      2) He was told he was wrong, but that is, again 100% irrelevant, he was asked his definition, and by his definition, he isn't a gamer, neither are the two others. If they didn't want a "wrong" definition, they should have damn well given their own and said whether Lewis fit in it. YOU doing the exact same thing of "ignore he was asked if he was by HIS definition and just assert your own definition and complain how wrong he is" is NOT refuting my post, it is demonstrating how dumb people are when they ask someone what they think when what they do after finding it indicates what they really wanted to do was criticise.

    A gamer is anyone who plays games. Athlete, casual, board game fanatic. Anyone who plays games on a regular basis is a gamer. There is no "good" gamer. There is no "real" gamer. You play games, or you do not play games. Fortnite? Gamer. Golf? Gamer. Trivial pursuit? Boring gamer, but still a gamer. I'd accept "Hardcore" gamer as someone who plays specific types of games excessively, but outside of specific distinctions I don't think it really matters. People are so consumed by what a "real" gamer is and don't stop to think that there are more words in the English language.

Instead of just acknowledging that he don't like it, he invests a lot of time into finding all the flaws of the game and saying that, because of these flaws, it's trash. are these guys the right people to be giving us gamer takes? All pyrion has done for the past 10 years is play Dota, Lewis is either playing something stupid, Civ, or ttt, and Sips, well I can handle a gamer take from Sips

    • @EvileDik

      Have you actually seen Sips playing a game? I cannot deny he is indeed the king of cancelling an in-game tutorial that tells you how not to die of hunger, then raging 10 minutes later that he died of hunger.

    • @joshconfer209
      @joshconfer209 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Quite the spicy take. Because sips streams various games gets an opinion lol?
      Lewis has more solo/co-op hours in a very wide array of platforms and built a successful media company around it.
      Pyrion has not only hosted, but been invited to play games by multiple companies worldwide.
      Calling them GAMERS might be a stretch, but they said as much themselves. We all like different things and have opinions. Just because they don't ninja no scope headshot on fort-pub zombie strike doesn't make it less valid.

    Lewis, it sounds like you don't know how to play magic lol. You have to include ramp in your decks, if you don't you'll have a bad time. That being said, totally happens even in my cEDH decks.
    Though, I do agree with you about the developers though. The original way of playing the game isn't even the most popular format of Magic, commander is.
    I don't agree with magic being a bad game. I do think you are entirely on point for warhammer.
    Magic is pay to win if you play in tournaments. My playgroup has begun to proxy a lot of the cards in our decks as then we have access to everything without spending a lot of money. That really is the way we have to play the game.

    For those saying "you shouldn't change the rules of magic, because bla bla bla..."
    If I payed 500 fucking dollars for these cards, I can do what I fucking want with them.
    Personally, I just say you start with 2 magic on the board already. It skips the boring phases of just putting down mana and saying "your turn", it guarantees you have some mana, and it can guarantee you have one mana of each if you have 2 colours in your deck.

    The way Pflax is talking, he'd prefer robots in the service industry. That would lead to a lot of unemployment . And Sips is right about the social aspect being necessary for us humans.

    • @kevg6365
      @kevg6365 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean the conversion to robot service industry has already been happening and will happen whether we like it or not. As for the social aspect... just get some damn friends. Why are retail workers supposed to be the ones to fill the void in people's lonely lives?

  • @knitterknerd
    @knitterknerd 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    ...Is Sips an extrovert? I can't imagine *wanting* to make small talk. That's not "real" social interaction in a way that's helpful to me. You could train a robot to make routine small talk, and I don't think it would be much different. It wouldn't be an identical experience, but we already humanize AI. Does anyone have an Amazon Echo and *not* get mad at her sometimes? And let's be honest, I get more personality out of my Animal Crossing villagers than from most retail employees. We're not really sharing our lives during a 3-minute conversation with a stranger.
    I get that some people just feed off human interaction, no matter how shallow, but ugh, it's not for me. I don't mean shallow as an insult--that's the appropriate level for small talk. It just doesn't do it for me.
    I still agree that we need humans to work in stores, but that's because employees can be genuinely helpful, even in ways the customer doesn't expect. I wish we could get back to customer service more for the sake of actual service than for sales, which would be way less obnoxious for the customers. But I've been on both sides, helping people and being helped, and it's a genuinely good interaction for everyone when you're trying to match the customer with what they actually need or want. I don't want to take all the social interaction out of shopping, but an opportunity to avoid the parts that are useless for me would be nice.
