    MORE ABOUT ME
Life took an unexpected turn when I, Amber, lost my job during the pandemic. But instead of letting it define me, I took a leap of faith. I sold everything, packed my bags (and my dreams!), and hit the road in an RV, ready for full-time adventure.
Guided by an open mind and a yearning for a simpler life, I embarked on a journey across America. While the road held its share of challenges, it ultimately led me to the most incredible discovery: a breathtaking piece of land in Tennessee.
This wasn't just any land; it was a blank canvas, a place brimming with potential. And that's where Narrow Bottoms was born. With no prior experience, I'm determined to transform this land into a thriving ranch, a self-sustaining haven nurtured by my own hands.
My vision is to raise animals, cultivate a flourishing garden, and live a life deeply connected to the land. It's a challenging yet thrilling adventure, and I'm inviting you to join me every step of the way. So, buckle up, grab your metaphorical shovel, and get ready to witness the creation of Narrow Bottoms, a dream ranch built from scratch, one lesson learned at a time.

There were large herds as far east as N.Carolina, S.Carolina, and Florida back in the early 1700's.

I am 77 years old. When I was a young girl, maybe 9 or 10, my mother took me to some place in Eastern PA. There we visited a nice man with a big field on a gently rolling hill. The man had what he called the last living buffalo. It was beautiful and I was sad. We stayed quite a while, so the memory was preserved in my mind. Perhaps it was the last buffalo east of the Mississippi. I am thrilled to see the herds alive today.

That's fascinating! Your grandfather's stories are a remarkable connection to a time when the American landscape was vastly different. It's hard to imagine bison roaming through northeastern Louisiana. Their migration patterns were truly epic. It's a testament to their resilience and abundance that they once roamed so far south. Glad I could bring them back! Thank you for sharing that incredible piece of history.

Congratulations on your first bunch of fluffy cows. My buddy had two cows and a huge bull for eleven years or so. I purchased a yearling bull from him, and learned a lot. One thing is that they can easily plow or jump a 5’ tall fence. Or plow through a wooden fence easily if it isn’t beefed up with bigger boards. Also if they get hungry they will find food and no fence will stop them. When they are in the rut, they get irritated quite easily, and his large bull gored my yearling . So I had Buffalo steaks several months earlier than planned. One more thing before I go. Is they are wild animals that cannot be tamed or trusted, so be aware when with them at all times. If the tail rises up they are pissed and may charge. Good luck and may God be with you.

I just wonder what they were thinking as they unloaded. Different grazing, different trees, different climate and weather. They are quite majestic when they run as a group.

I used to live near Antelope Island in Utah and my family and I would drive over the causeway to see the bison that run free there. They were awesome. One year we even bought a stuffed animal bison and gave it to our daughter as an Easter Bison. 😅
I dont know if your intentions are to raise them for meat or not, but I can say, its very good, and lean.
But congratulations on your new herd. 🎉 😁🦬

Hard to believe that 250 years ago they roamed free down there, along with the elk, and deer, I can only imagine!! Good luck on your journey! Just as a general question, how much land is needed per animal, for grazing, and will you have to supplement their feed?

It's incredible to think about how the landscape has changed. It's a testament to the resilience of these animals that they've adapted so well. As for land requirements, it varies based on factors like climate, soil quality, and the specific breed. Generally, you'd need a considerable amount of acreage for grazing. Supplementing their diet is often necessary, especially during harsh weather or when forage quality declines. It's a complex balance between land management and animal care. Thank you for the encouraging words and your support!
