No one ever mentions this in the ‘greatest’ conversation. I don’t understand why. This f’n song is one of the greatest Australian songs ever written. After almost 30 years of listening to it, it still smashes me and hits with melancholy and joy all at once.
+earth I don't know about that, but it a pretty fucking good song I must admit. Thing is good music does this too you. I get it (as I'm tapping my feet writing this)
oink ooink because music can be very much a subjective thing rather than a objective one. If old mate reckless no its one of the best rock songs ever written then he is perfectly valid in holding that opinion. Anyone who loved and still lives this band may well agree with him.
This was just released when I moved to Australia, only got back to the USA a few years ago. I went to several U am I shows fortunately. One at the 'Alex' on the sunny coast way before it was demolished and became a bunch of units. Playing a few gigs at the blue bar there afterwards myself. My son earned his wings as a chef in the same spot, and now he's got his own restaurant in Dickey Beach 'Nicks pizza' memories are great from this area. Great times!
Songs like this live forever.... great AUSSIE rock song. still as fresh as the day it was put out. Having a Brew Am I with You Am I in Cairns tonight!!!!!
yep I was a 36 year old when I bought this album .these guys and the living end probably the best aussies from the 90s but post grunge there were stacks of greatbands in auss , the uk and the states, great times went to the big,day out and livid in bris .need another rock resurgence me thinks
i remember when the album came out, i had it and i loved it, i saw a music reviewer do an article on it from the u.k and he blasted the hell out of it, obviously a crap music critic. I was so mortified that i wrote a letter to the publication, this was pre internet.
Great to see this band are getting more exposure here on the 'tube. I was lucky enough to see them live a few times back in the late 90's - early 00's. Privileged is probably a better word than lucky. They were absolutely amazing live, no video or live recording of a live show can convey how much energy You Am I put out on stage. Even on a Wednesday night in front of uni students in Wagga. Some of the best times in my life.
And they’ve gone from strength to strength. Better musically now than ever. Constantly evolving while remaining as stoic and loyal as ever to their long-term fan base. Tim will be producing music for another 20-30 plus years and it will still be brilliant. We ain’t seen the best of them yet… Rusty, Davey and Andy are machines. So damn good.
You Am I are the 70 year band like Mississippi's Robert johnson.. How good is this!!! The greatest Australian rock band ever. Easily. This is still one of the greatest rock songs of all time
The greatest Australian rock band ever. Easily. Songs like this live forever.... The greatest Australian rock band ever. Easily. off to see them tonight in London. Fifth time I think, always a great gig!
Great band. No doubt. But no such thing as the best ever.... What about Chisel. The Church. Aussie Crawl. Angels. AC/DC! Rose Tattoo. Living End. Oil's. Too many superb bands to ever say there's only one that's the best!
Had a scratch only you could itch Underneath the Glebe Point Bridge And now every boy in a knitted vest Has got some precedent So we took a personality pill And something red to swill And now every fire has gone out in every heart that wanted to kill Let's call it a day Every thought that once had a sound We'll have to hide 'til no one is around 'cause there ain't no room in the city today For explanations that you just can't say Found out what shame can mean In purple sneakers and grey jeans And every walked to a school that once made sense Sure felt like an accident Let's call it a day For every trouble you found There's a drink to lose it and drown But do you need somebody, to feel somebody? Every day that once had a sound We'll have to hide 'til no one is in town I don't hate I just feel better When no one else is around So we'll take a personality pill And something red to swill And now every fire has gone out i every heart that wanted to kill Let's call it a day For every trouble you found There's a drink to lose it and drown But do you need somebody, to feel somebody? You can shave a million ways To make damn sure that the twelve in you stays But do you need somebody, to feel somebody?
What about The Angels, Rose Tattoo, AC/DC, Cold Chisel, Men At Work, Midnight Oil, Crowded House, Mental As Anything, Noiseworks, Icehouse, Silverchair, Australian Crawl, Cosmic Psychos, INXS, The Screaming Jets? Yes, we Aussie's hve been blessed with an abundance of talent. 👍🇦🇺
i can still smell and feel the room i was in when i first heard this brilliant song, 16 years later every time i go over the Glebe Point bridge i get goosebumps.............shame about the video, just sayin...
Superb song. Glebe Point Bridge is in Annandale, Inner-West, Sydney. Some think it is the Anzac Bridge. When I hear this song it reminds me of Badde Manners in Glebe. Chai and a hangover !
this was the song of my 95/96, loved it !! and I also had purple doc martens haha. Had a scratch only you could itch....underneath the Glebe Point Bridge....
The Glebe Point Bridge not the same as the ANZAC bridge! What a song, best Aussie band of the 90's wish I could remember the live shows a little better.
7 months late, but the comment must be made. Nice to know the rest of the world now has access to these great tracks available to me back in the mid 90s in Australia when I was a teen. The truth is, things like this are everywhere, you just have to keep an year out and hate everything that sounds crap! But don't bag th US - these guys would have been nothing if they didn't play in the same festival as Sonic Youth, a US band. It was Lee Renaldo who heard them and decided to produce for them.
Good video! I'm liked and share 716 times :D Had a scratch only you could itch....underneath the Glebe Point Bridge.... Had a scratch only you could itch....underneath the Glebe Point Bridge....
its a fucking shit hot song . sorry . it just is a classic,. the chord progression everything the words the way its sung . its no easy lick and voice . top effort . one of my Aussie faves full stop .

It is a very underrated song. It's kinda like 20 or so years has to go by before one realizes what we used to take for granted yeah?
Saw them live in 1997- one of the best gigs of my life.
I second this notion! One of the best songs in Aus music history..
@@tonyrobertson1085 I think the overrated is probably the most unoriginal and overused term online (damn, just used it again!!)

so beautiful. Ths song is the most underrated song in Aus music history.
If you grew up in the 90's then you should, no you must know this song..
Had a scratch only you could itch
Underneath the Glebe Point Bridge
And now every boy in a knitted vest
Has got some precedent
So we took a personality pill
And something red to swill
And now every fire has gone out
in every heart that wanted to kill
Let's call it a day
Every thought that once had a sound
We'll have to hide 'til no one is around
'cause there ain't no room in the city today
For explanations that you just can't say
Found out what shame can mean
In purple sneakers and grey jeans
And every walked to a school that once made sense
Sure felt like an accident
Let's call it a day
For every trouble you found
There's a drink to lose it and drown
But do you need somebody, to feel somebody?
Every day that once had a sound
We'll have to hide 'til no one is in town
I don't hate I just feel better
When no one else is around
So we'll take a personality pill
And something red to swill
And now every fire has gone out
i every heart that wanted to kill
Let's call it a day
For every trouble you found
There's a drink to lose it and drown
But do you need somebody, to feel somebody?
You can shave a million ways
To make damn sure that the twelve in you stays
But do you need somebody, to feel somebody?
poetry to be appreciated 👍🏻

It reminds me of the mid 90s, growing up in Perth while wishing I lived somewhere like Glebe
Since spent many a morning at badde mannors
Thanks for the detail...this Melbournian enjoys detail and, indeed, this fine tune.

The Glebe Point Bridge not the same as the ANZAC bridge! What a song, best Aussie band of the 90's wish I could remember the live shows a little better.
TOTAL CLAZZIC!
he reminds me a little bit of Ray Davies for some reason.
I've always felt the same...could be the working class sensibility in their songwriting, plus non macho singing
I can hear that. "As long as I gaze up Waterloo Sunset" etc.
Me too.
