True, its just that millions of people with ridiculous knowledge of year celebrated the new millenium when that 1 at the start of every year changed to 2
Richard Digance did take over hosting 'Countdown' for a time while Richard Whitley was on sick leave, believing it would only for a short time while he recovered & was able to return. His condition then turned out to be much worse & Richard Whitley passed away. The Richard Digance episodes as host have never been broadcast.
You just know all of them saying Happy New Year, knowing this was most likely taped in August 1999 as they do now in 2019, tape around four to five months in advance of transmission.
The 7th of Jan 2000 was not the first episode of a new century 2001 would be the first episode of a new century or even millennium centuries begin with 1 and end in 00. Millenniums begin with 1 and end in 000.
The show reached the year 2000 and still had those awful 80s looking lights spreading out from the clock. It was such a relief when they FINALLY went. I remember when the set got changed to this horrible colour too. It still makes me feel sick today as it did then. What an awful colour choice!
@@BCJ1985 It's my subjective opinion. I said they were 80s LOOKING. Styles don't magically change at the turn of a decade. 1991 is still early 90s so most tastes were still influenced by 80s trends. Something can be made in any era and look like something from any other era. Today in 2022 I can style some 1920s clothes if I want to. So telling me the date they were introduced changes nothing about my opinion.
@@BCJ1985 Sorry if it bothers you but in my opinion this set looks 80s. Getting rid of those lights spreading out from the clock was long overdue by 2000.
Carol is priceless. Telling Richard he should be coming out of a cake, not dressed the way he was. Rofl, belly laugh.
I remember Carol on the DS game, as being on countdown. Hope shes alright.
Fantastic quality on this, by the way.
Especially for an episode that aired 20 years ago
VHS quality is really quite amazing, if kept in the right conditions. (My collection sadly has not been.)
Unfortunate thumbnail. Thanks for uploading in 50fps, it really brings out the quality of this.
The 21st century didn't start until 2001. 2000 is still the 20th century.

They were never recorded. They were due to be recorded but Whiteley died so they got pulled.
First broadcast 3 Jan 2000.
Insane quality for VHS
Love the thumbnail

Those lights were introduced in 1991. Nothing 80s about them.

@@ismayb754 Nah, look at the 1990 episodes, they're a much better example of a set from the 80s.
