3:55 Great Scotland Yard. It's Richard Stilgoe From Andrew Lloyd Webber's Starlight Express And The Phantom Of The Opera At London's Apollo Victoria And Her Majesty's Theatres In London. Thanks Mate. X
I always thought this set was actually a giant book rather than birds’ wings. When the set changed in 2017 I thought it was a cheap version of the “wings” set slightly mashed up with the short-lived brown set.
@Leeswinburn Una szewc has won 5 wins to make it through to the quarter finals and she has lost to john shock in the preliminary round and also una szewc has lost in the quarter finals to david webb i'm i correct.
My Dad was on it in series 21 I think it was aired on the 27th of February 1991, but we lost the VHS, any idea on where we could get a copy of the episode?? Any help would be greatly appreciated
dose the other half of the clock actually work or is it just for show ? cos if it dosnt work wat the hell is the point of having the whole clock why not just have half a clock or better still why don't they give the contestants a whole minute in stead of 30 seconds don't make sense never got it
At this time the clock could only go clockwise so to reset it had to do a full revolution to get back to the top these days the clock can go backwards to reset itself and i do think that a whole clock does look more symetrical
@@danwoodhouse9290 That is totally wrong, Daniel - the original clock could also go backwards. In fact, there were a few episodes where the 'Countdown' *_started at 30 (lit)_* and spun backwards to zero with the lights going off with each second. And that is much forgotten, sadly. There was also a few months where the clock would light at the beginning of each second rather than at the end of each second, which is more typical. The original clock was far more versatile than people remember.
@@Clavinovaman I have a vague memory of Carol mentioning that the clock once went backwards. I assumed it was a malfunction rather than a design decision, but perhaps not.
@@JayLS Indeed Jay. I think it was 5 episodes, but it may have been more. I'm not sure what the reason was to change the motion of the clock. Perhaps it was just experimental or for fun...
@@Clavinovaman Do you remember when this was? Maybe it was experimented alongside a new set, or just a new series, but quickly switched back to normal. Interesting minutiae, anyway; hopefully one of these episodes will surface someday and blow some minds. :P
What Challenge TV should have done you come right back to the first episode and show them in order that would have been special not going to around them 90s series and showing that. I've have seen the first ever episode on TH-cam and I like the early ones. I believe when Challenge TV started to show countdown they didn't get very good viewing figures so I believe they move the series didn't know till 7 a.m. time slot I think if I can remember rightly.
Una passed away on 16 October 2016, aged 84 years. RIP to her and Richard.
That's a good age, bless her heart.
100 x 9 = 900
5 + 1 = 6 x 10 = 60 subtract 60 from 900 = 840 - 1 = 839
You used the 1 twice!!

I'm surprised I beat the contestants to get the answer at 18:44. That's the first time I've done that.

i always called it the "fanlight" set
I always liked the first ever set from the 80s where they'd have a different colour backdrop for each episode.

I stopped watching Countdown after Richard Whiteley sadly passed away and Carol Vorderman left.
Just not the same without him and Carol.
Brand new series and none of the contestants got the conundrum.
18:14 I got toilets.
July 1st, 1991. The day Michael Landon died.
That jumper though...?

Come back, Richard Whiteley! :-)
It may be that Les Dennis would be the perfect replacement....

Have you got the Series 22 Grand Final Please
Unfortunately Challenge didn’t acquire the rights for 5 episodes of the series, including the grand final!
They did, they just never showed them all in primetime/afternoon due to low ratings, but eventually did at 7 in the morning! I have it recorded.
