- Black Superheroes are hot right now in pop culture but they have been around for a long time, just not in big numbers. In this video we celebrate them. This list concentrates on legacy heroes, meaning the character is 10 years or older. I will do another list called the Top 10 NEW Black Superheroes in the future featuring developing characters fresh on the scene from 2010 to the present. As you might guess Miles Morales makes the OG all time list despite being created in 2011. Marvel and DC dominant the list but 1 indie comic comic does make the top 10 in Col. Al Simmons aka Spawn.
RULES FOR TOP 10 BLACK SUPERHEROES OF ALL TIME LIST.
1. Legacy heroes. They must be at least 10 years old
2. Character has to be Black from conception. No race swapped heroes.
3. This is my personal list. Feel free to post your own top 10 list.

Blue Marvel, Steele, and Bishop for honorable mention
Blue Marvel, Storm, Miles, Black Panther, Nubia, Blade, Luke Cage, John Stewart and then some other ones
thank you for your feedback! I talk about every character you mentioned in this video except the Blue Marvel. I talk about him in another video that highlights Black characters created after 2000.

@@ComicPower I know. Ur order was wrong. 😂😂 in my opinion. JS
NU'BIA WAS ACTUALLY IN THE WONDER WOMAN SHOW BACK IN THE 70's. THIS WAS ALLUDED TO BE JAYNE KENNEDY. THERE WAS A PUSH FOR A SPIN-OFF STARRING JAYNE KENNEDY BUT OF COURSE...IT WASN'T FOR THOSE TIMES BUT YES...THE DOLL WAS BASED OFF OF JAYNE KENNEDY'S CAMEO IN THE WONDER WOMAN SERIES.
Thanks for watching and your feedback. If Jayne's character was implied to be Nubia then this was even worse. If they were going to give us Nubia then it should have been full armor costume ready for battle Nubia. We were robbed. It took them to 2022 to finally actually start using the character but better late then never I guess. Be sure to watch more videos from Black Superhero Playlist.

Jovian Wade as Cyborg on Doom Patrol was excellent. Better than the DCEU version because they had the time to develop his character.
I never watched Doom Patrol but heard good things. I need to HBO max for a month and binge watch it and catch up on harley too while im there. thanks

Thanks for your continued support
@@ComicPower No problem. You're a really cool TH-camr.
My honorable mention is Zal Zod / Calvin Ellis , Firestorm Jason Rush, Icon
Those are some overlooked but strong characters. Thanks
Darksied,Spawn,blade,luke cage,black panther
So when did Darkseid become a Black character. Apparently i missed that
Icon!
from the Milestone universe. I was a fan of Hardware and Static but never got into Icon. I felt like he was Superman but with a Black twist. I needed a little more than that. Just my thoughts. the list reflects my personal taste

Miles morales and Deadpool my favorite superhero for marvel and Batman and Superman for dc
You have great taste in heroes
Deadpool is one of my favorite black heroes too
I really feel like they should have taken the opportunity to recast black panther. His story was not over.
There was no answer for Marvel that would have made everybody happy. Chadwick was the only actor to play Tchalla in live action and the way he died may have been as insensitive by his fans. A replacement so soon would have led to harrassment of the imposter Tchalla. And seeing the new guy interact with all the other original actors like everything was normal would be weird. Like how the fresh prince show got a new aunt viv. So i think marvel did the right thing. Maybe they reboot after secret wars and give us a new Tchalla say around 2027.
STORM is ALWAYS my FAVORITE!
Ororo Munroe is a Goddess worthy of the praise!
Thanks for watching!

As with the rise of female, LGBTQ+, other abled peoples, black, Hispanic/Latinx and Asian representation has reinvigorated many of the tired tropes of comics. New voices, cultures, appearances have added much more rich story telling and even employment opportunities to the industry. There needs to be more and hopefully, we all will get many chances to see all our varied and wonderful colors shine.
PS. Storm is my absolute favorite. And yes, I am a gay, cis-gendered white guy...
Thank you for your feedback. Everything you said was true. For example Miles Morales allows Marvel to give us a Teenage Spiderman with a fresh spin. Peter Parker has been around since 1962. He was really the first teenage lead character in comics and not a sidekick. But they had to age him up to advance the character to keep him fresh and wound over aging to where hes lost that youthful charisma. trying to de age him didn't work and caused confusing continuity. In saying welcome. I hope you stay. And BTW I have several playlist for binge watching. I have one called LGBTQ Supheroes in which I am friendly to the Gay community! here!

Fam, it's Static. Not Static Shock, that was the name of the show. Solid list though ✊🏾
Thank you for your feedback. Stick around and watch more as I salute Black superheroes

@ComicPower fa sho. Already watched 3 other videos today ✊🏾
No Icon? His Milestone run and origin story from the 90s is really good. I always feel he’s undervalued.
Thanks for posting. The list is my personal opinion. I just never got into Icon. He didn't appeal to me the way Static and Hardware did. but thats just me i guess

Black Superman?
Icon was okay, but the real star of that series was Rocket.
@comicppower why no mention of Icon from Milestone comics? Just curious.
I never got into Icon. It seemed to ask the question what if a super powered alien came to Earth and looked like a Black man instead of a White man like Superman. Thats a good starting premise but the execution of his storylines didnt work for me like Static and Hardware did for me.

@@ComicPower oh ok... I guess that would be Calvin Ellis, 😉 >for another day
@@gfreeman3979 I think the Blue Marvel was a much better spin on the question of "If Superman was Black how would society act?" And in the case of Adam Brashear. Force his Black Ass into retirement. LOL.
@ComicPower ahhhh maybe. The thing about Cal-El (Ellis) the alternate universe, accepted the 'Black' Justice League so it would have been a crazy spin to see Kal-El (white) Superman. 😉🤔
You checked out those newer Nubia books - good, meh, bad?
-Dustin
I did In the minseries Nubia Coronation. We got an important story as she crowned Queen of the Amazons, but i found the art to be lacking. She also headlined Nubia and the Justice League, which didnt present anything new and refreshing in terms of its storytelling. It seemed like a makeup for having Nubia sit on the bench for so long, DC felt shamed into putting her into something important as a headliner. The most obvious they should do (but DC is too stupid to do) is do a Wonder Woman Part 3 live action movie in which Nubia shows up to challenge Diana and then they have to team up to fight together against a bigger threat. Im available it to write it but once again DC is just too dumb to do the right thing!

Are you still planning to make a version for more recent characters?
Yes. It is coming later this year. Thanks for asking and be sure to sub and click on notifications.

Good list fam but no sunspot. I feel everyone always forgets that he's also a brother. They tried to white wash him. But he is a brother also.
Thanks for posting. the character is supposed to be Pardo Brazilian which is a Brazilian of multiple ethnic backgrounds. Which would include Black. So I guess we could claim him. He definitely was misrepresented in the film.
th-cam.com/users/comicpower
no Coal Tiger??
The Coal Tiger is an early Black Panther prototype hes not really a different character.
@@ComicPower , Oh!!!! Turns out, Savage Dragon is (was?) Black.
No love for Steel?
Steel is ok but I can't think of any iconic villains or storylines. i wouldn't put him in my top 20 but more like top 40 if i extended the list.
