Toyota Tacoma Tent Camping Sleeping Platform Build

- I just bought a 2018 Toyota Tacoma and want to get into camping in it. I found and bought a Rightline tent that goes on the truck bed, which I have seen it on with the tonneau cover folded up.
The space between the wheel wells is less than 24 inches, which is 24 inches , and the width of 2 airpads I have. In my truck bed along the sides, I see there is a lip to add a platform that would give me the width I need.
So, with a little Muskrat Engineering, I built a platform I could sleep on, with an extension to add length. I also gained storage underneath. But I then encountered a problem that you will see in my end review. Maybe you can help me out as overall I like the setup.

Thank you.
I love your extension over the tailgate. Lots of good ideas in your video!
You could use the flange option for all the way around I like that idea.
Take out the platform and sleep on top of the tonneau cover, I assume u have a ridgeline tent so u should have plenty of room if u sleep on the hard cover.
i am 6'3" tall and need a longer extension. i did not unstand why the hinges did not work. if the plywood was shorter would the extension work? any thoughts about a tarp over the tent door to prevent rain coming in ?
@robertburns1886 thanks for watching. For what didn't work with the platform is when I trifold my hard cover there isn't enough room for your feet in between the 2. So either take it totally off, or I'm gonna try to unbolt the cover and lift the cover and put a 2x6 on its side and hopefully give enough room for my feet and not get too tight against the tent and tent poles.
I have had it out in the rain yet, but was gonna try one of those 10x10 tailgate canopies, otherwise I know someone that makes their own hammocks and tents and see if we can figure out a way to make a canopy over it.
Is this the short bed ?
Yes 5 ft bed
