Thanksgiving Weekend Exploring Southeast Minnesota and Northeast Iowa Day 2
I have the 3rd Gen tacoma with 5 ft bed, and I have this tent as well... absolutely love it.. I use interlocking foam floor mats on the bottom and a futon matress on top of it. The matress curls up by the wheel wells but otherwise fits well.Only issue with the matress is condensation between the matress and foam pads (meaning the matress is now damp)won have also used inflatable camp pads side by side and have to deal with the curl up at the wells.. I was thinking of a platform myself but was wondering how it would fit with the door slope... I enjoyed your video and with the platform it gives me more thinking to do.. I also have a roll up tonnue cover which gives a small shelf area as well
@@MrCpitts thanks for watching. I think the roll top cover would be nicer as well
Take out the platform and sleep on top of the tonneau cover, I assume u have a ridgeline tent so u should have plenty of room if u sleep on the hard cover.
Useful update - thanks. 1:26 you have a Mr. Heater propane, but instead you went with an electric heater and a Jackery - do you have a preference for either set up? I’m guessing the Mr. heater would be quieter…any reason to prefer the little electric heater?
The Mr Heater is way too hot for that little space to run continuously, even on low.
@ very good to know. Too bad the low setting is not low enough - disappointing. I’m going on a month-long winter journey, and just bought this tent but haven’t received it yet, and was looking into Mr. Heater with a 5 pound tank. But if it is too warm for that use, I guess I’ll go with a small electric. ty.
Hey, no problem. It was so warm you would need no covers or many clothes to wear. Thanks for watching!!
Nice vid and trails. I'm going to be hiking parts of that section this weekend. Looking forward to it.
@tdulka thanks for watching!! I have no idea if they had any rain since we were there the middle of September, but be prepared for scarce water sources.
You mean granite Peak it’s not a mountain, I’ve been on that hill many times, learned how to ski on that hill
Thanks for the review. I just bought one for my camping adventures. I wanted it so I wouldn’t have to remove my tri-fold cover completely. I think this is perfect for me. Keeps my traveling weight light and simple. I’m planning on using a heat blanket during cold weather camping and powering it with my solar generator I built. Keep it simple I always say.

i am 6'3" tall and need a longer extension. i did not unstand why the hinges did not work. if the plywood was shorter would the extension work? any thoughts about a tarp over the tent door to prevent rain coming in ?
@robertburns1886 thanks for watching. For what didn't work with the platform is when I trifold my hard cover there isn't enough room for your feet in between the 2. So either take it totally off, or I'm gonna try to unbolt the cover and lift the cover and put a 2x6 on its side and hopefully give enough room for my feet and not get too tight against the tent and tent poles. I have had it out in the rain yet, but was gonna try one of those 10x10 tailgate canopies, otherwise I know someone that makes their own hammocks and tents and see if we can figure out a way to make a canopy over it.
Thanks for the great video! Yummy Pizza ! Have a nice day!
@@odaiazzouni thanks for watching. Hope it gives you an idea to try out. I thought it worked great!!
Can't wait for the hike. Let the prep begin!
@tomfranta5495 thanks for watching Tom. Let the countdown begin!!! Did you see Swag and Ken this weekend did split rock to Beaver Bay.
@@outdooradventureswithshane3319 next on my watch list.
I used to use these for years. They burn for so long. Latey, I just use vaseline cotton balls.
@Joe_from_iowa I like that they burn quite a while too, which helps when the wood is a little damp. Thanks for watching!!
@@outdooradventureswithshane3319 For sure.. I think I timed mine at 20 minutes burn time.
Now-That’s a Bonfire! I like it Shane…..and look at that gorgeous evening….you are BLESSED my friend. Chat again soon brother!
@gbltheolechurch5acrehomestead thanks for watching. I hope to be getting back out soon, but it's super hot here in Iowa now, and camping would be rough
Hey Shane…like 6 here! Agree….lets get out and have FUN Kayaking and Camping!
Thanks for the video. I plan on making this trip one day. I made a short video of Texas, WI today. It is north east of Wausau. Thanks from Rhinelander.
@alanm3438 thanks for watching
No, it’s south west of Wausau I live there for my first 28 years I should know
I get why you did it but you'd probably have less condensation if you didn’t plug up the roof vents.
Loved the video, i have done a lot.of fishing on that lake as a kid. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching. I would have brought my pole along but it was supposed to be windy both days and I didnt want to fight the wind. But since Rice Lake and Lake Mills is close by we will be back again.
Its nice that the tracks are still there.
Looks like an absolutely wonderful place to just sit and relax.
Very peaceful to sit and listen to wildlife out there. Thanks for watching.
You could use the flange option for all the way around I like that idea.
I camp in a Gladiator with a Rightline truck bed and a Suv tent for more extended stays. Are you keeping your tri-fold bed cover folded up and on the bed or do you take it off.
So far, I keep it on. But if you watched my video with the platform I made, I still need to figure that out as i can barely get my feet under the cover and my platform. I like the setup with the storage underneath. What I might have to do is one of 2 things. 1. Take it off each night or 2. Cut some blocks to elevate the lid after I detach it and keep it in the tent for a shelf. The only concern I have then is that it will put too much pressure on the tent sides, and if it rains, will the water seep in where it touches. I still haven't had it up in the rain yet, but if I get the chance, I will get a review video up on how it performed in the rain.
"Dawn chorus ".
Good try with the pizza. Might try a cooking stone next time.
The pizza actually turned out not to bad. What I'm going to do is find another pizza pan like I had fir the cover and put a small hinge on it to keep it together. With the size of that top pan it won't slide out from in between the chains. Just have to keep dinking with it and tweak it. Thanks for watching
I'm always careful with hand water pumps as wasps and Yellow Jackets sometimes nest inside... ready to run if they come out first. Cheers to "Crazy Neighbor" too.
Is this part of the "Driftless" area that the Glaciers missed in the last Ice age? Looms more rugged which adds to the adventure feel.
"Looks" dam auto spell.
Yes this is over in SE Minnesota by Rushford in the Driftless region. There are plans to make the Minnesota Driftless Hiking Trail using the Lost Creek Trail by Chatfield, all the way to the Reno Unit of the State forest in far SE Minnesota. Thanks for watching and Google the organization for that new Trail.
Not too scary
Did you get the 6ft tall or 6ft regular.
For my 2018 Tacoma with a 5ft bed the tent model is 110766. Thanks for watching.

Hello, good video, i have a same truck as yours. Just wondering what size of rightline tent you where using? Thank you
Nice video showing us a different culture. Well done.
Thank you. Each day is something new, and some of the stuff we see should make us appreciate how nice we have things.

Not that kind of a trip bud...lol
Covid?😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
Are you not worried about COVID? People are amazing 😢
Nope. Live life. Don't live in fear, or you're to miss it. So far between the Minneapolis International Airport and the one in Houston, I have only seen 12 masks total.
Great video much love from us .
Wonder who put the little characters there. If they had messages like the Readlyn Rocks do.
I have no idea. It's probably just for fun, but I didn't want to touch them in case of bad voodoo!! Lol
