Tips from a long time upholsteror.
Blunt the corner with a hammer. This will keep the board from breaking through the fabric.
Cut your foam larger than the plywood. Staple the foam edge touching the plywood to it. Then roll the foam over and around to the other side and staple it to the opposite side. This will help fill the cushion out better and prevent the cliff edge sides.
Work from the center to the corner. Pull the material FIRMLY but not extremely towards the corner, this will help prevent wrinkles and draws, dimples where the fabric isn't pulled evenly.
Fold the material you pull over, this will help with durability.
Turn your staples in line with the orientation of the side, not across it. These two will help keep the material from being pulled through the fabric.
Do not cut to fit, you want a SMALL amount of excess batting in the corners to give them a fuller look and protect the fabric from the plywood edge.
Drill holes in the plywood so the air pressure doesn't escape through the cover. This will put pressure on the cover and staples and will wear on the hold.
    These are TIPS not criticism.
I worked in the upholstery business for twenty years, including a decade earning my living on an upholstery bench for La-Z- Boy, had my own side hustle as a repairman, and was appointed to an in house repairman at the end of my career for la-z- boy's Dayton, Tn plant. This position required one to be able to build the unit from the ground up and was a nomination job. You had to be nominated for the position by supervision and management reviewed your repair records.
    Again, not criticism.
    Helpful tips.

Do you think the batting is important, I’ve never thought about putting it on top of the foam. 🤔

I used 8 screws that only went deep enough to go through the bench top and wood I used for the cushion.

She did show how to do the corners. You cut the excess and you fold them over.
