I bought a car from a guy who had a folder full of the receipts of all the work. It was a little more expensive but that car was solid and drove like a champ. The car was 12 years old.

If you did paint your house purple with a blue interior, and I was a prospective buyer who, for some reason, liked that combination; I would still use it to bring down the price because I know no one else would likely want it

They REDUCE the value of your car, because most people want to "repair" the car back to stock. Unless it's a supercharger on a Mustang or similar performance car.

Great video Lucky!! I don’t have any receipts for oil changes for the last 15 years since I do them myself 😆. My ‘04 Accord has an aftermarket stereo with Bluetooth, amplifier, and a subwoofer 🔊 in the trunk-worth it! Having a great stereo has kept me from buying a new car and my bank account is happy.

I don’t like mods on cars. I believe in buying a car you really like all stock. When they’re fully loaded they come with wheels and a system.

I always ask when the last time the transmission was serviced. Seems that NOBODY services their automatic transmissions, so I use that as a bargaining tool. Its $750 (or more) to have Mercedes do it.

When it comes to classic cars, I would think that keeping the car as close to original as possible would bring in the highest value. However, because new technology exists it’s very possible that some people would rather purchase a classic that has newer technology in it.
One example for is the 69 Dodge charger. If I had the money to spend on a project, I would buy a 69 charger with no engine or transmission in it and then I would buy the Mopar direct 1500 hp hemi with whatever transmission could handle it and have that installed into the car along with all of the appropriate Drive train elements.
Right there you’re talking about a $60,000 engine plus whatever the body of the car is going to cost. I would probably update the interior with the computers and the seats as well but it would be a nightmare to get it all to work. How many people would really want to buy that car off of me in its quasi retro/modernize state? However, if it was original spec, I’m fairly certain it would fetch extremely high bids.

Thank you VERY MUCH for these "secrets" that no one will ever tell us about. Please keep them coming. How about - Good scanners vs Junk scanners that will destroy your electrical system. Put vehicles on a lift and show us what to look for when buying used cars. How about those $600 Seat Covers on eBay compared to the $150 ones. Does GMC still not paint the frames on their trucks ?
Thank you for all the work you do

I'd say stock sells best if you want a basic rule. Of course most people will put on a quality Bilstein strut vs an OEM at possibly 2 to 3 times the cost, but it still is basically stock and might even handle better. Certainly better than blown out oem or questionable quality aftermarket crap even if the car looks stock.
A tasteful "anything" can be of benefit. Even a tasteful stereo. If it sounds good, has a quality amplifier and speakers and isn't ghetto bass pumping from a huge box in the trunk, it's likely a benefit. Especially for an older classic with no real other option. Who wants to spend 600 bucks for a vintage oem stereo head unit to get 12 distorted watts per channel and a tape deck? If you have oem keep the head unit, slap in a nice single din alpine, don't cut the wiring or keep it as close to oem as possible and keep wiring pigtails, and make it reversible to a high level of quality with Deutsche or Amp connectors.
But, I'd say stock is best. Keep it stock and let the next guy ruin it with mods.
Some very well done cars appeal to almost everyone in that class or style of cars and will definitely get more money even if heavily modified. Engine swap BMWs w Dinan parts etc. Probably if done very well it will get maximum money.
But a stock car is likely best with a few minor tasteful modifications or factory available upgrades such as allowing a 3.5mm headphone cable to give you music. Modern "classics" didn't have any Bluetooth so if you can get a phone to plug in to the factory system or an iPod etc that's a benefit I'd say.
Basically stock or close with a polished and clean exterior and a tidy interior with some refurbishment of heavy wear areas or replacement trims.
Don't under estimate the value of a few parts cars and junk yard visits to finish off a car back to stock to fix ugly spots to help make a vehicle look very nice and again, let the new owner ruin it.
I'm not a car dealer or seller just an enthusiast who prefers his cars stock or OEM plus / tasteful upgrades particularly if they can be reversed. Don't sell your 80s BBS RS with the vehicle if you want to maximize value. Put stock back on when it's sold. Nobody wants to pay FMV for your NLA classic BBS wheels with the car unless it's a whole package of perfection, some items are best reversed at time of sale and sold separately or kept for your next vehicle.

If anything gives me a sign that it was owned by a kid, I do NOT buy. I seen it all the time wher ethey would run sound systems then sell off the amps etc but would leave the wire. That would IMMEDIATELY turn me off of the vehicle. I will not own something that a kid drove. They destroy vehicles.

Of course, that's illegal and you can't pass smog in CA without a cat, yet a lot of people seem to still do it. Then try to sell their car for $10K without a cat and pretend it's a bonus that it's straight piped.

Yes and no. It depends on how tasteful the mods are. But you usually never get what you put into it. Especially when ppl try to add labor into the price. Now I’ve modded Gen 2 lightnings and Mustangs. If I put around $6K into it, I can usually still ask and make about $2K above value. And I do all my own work so don’t have to worry about labor prices.
But ppl that go nuts and drop $20K in a Mustang and believe they’ll get $20K above its value…nope. Might as well keep it till it rots away.

Original brings OK money but that market for them is slowly getting smaller all the time, only originals that bring big money are super low mileage classic investment vehicles.
