Reality is mostly great. Free animals know. Our concepts, assumptions, identifications, beliefs, the stories we tell ourselves can and do indeed make it hell. To really listen means that all that ends. For a minute or if you're lucky, maybe forever. Chasing it scares it away because it is what you are.
Beautiful. And, again, Karolina's ability to start her improv with a tenor tone coming out of her alto. Great arrangement by Mr. Mintzer. And the singing by Ms. Horn -- wow. Perfect articulation and delivery! Thanks again for the upping!
A window Looked out into a pattern never-ending A flower And trees and little pathways far descending To the garden far below us The pavilions in the sunlight Where peacocks proudly graze the seed (grace the sea?) A vision A timeless place Another way of living You moved in So close I really thought that you were giving I allowed myself a moment To believe that you could heed me To reflect upon what might have been The summer sky I saw reflected in the color of your eyes But somehow I Could never peel away the layers of disguise I'm drowning now I'm slowly sinking in a sea of blue and green Where what you are is never seen How can anybody know you? I still hear The ringing of a church bell in the morning The peacocks Still calling out their sad and bitter warnings Beauty is only an illusion Here your truth is an intrusion A mirage is all it's ever been [Sax solo] The summer sky I saw reflected in the color of your eyes But somehow I could never peel away the layers of disguise I'm drowning now And slowly sinking in a sea of blue and green Where what you are is never seen How can anybody know you? I still hear The ringing of a church bell in the morning The peacocks Still calling out their sad and bitter warnings Beauty is only an illusion Here your truth is an intrusion A mirage is all it's ever been Windows look out into a pattern never-ending A flower and trees and little pathways far descending Take a final look around you Hold that memory forever A mirage is all it's ever been
I really like everything about this rehearsal -- Jimmy Rowles' lovely music, a fine reading of Norma Winstone's lyric, Mintzer's arrangement, the great band, and Karolina's solo. I look forward hearing a lot more from both of these young women!
I really like the alto saxophone solo..It has a bit of a Pete King tone to it!!..This is also refreshingly different to the version on her 'Social Call' album.
Bravo!! Fantastic perfornance of the Rowles' masterpiece. Jazzmeia nails it, including that difficult bridge which she and Mintzer soften. I've loved Karolina's work since her days with Chico Hamilton. MIntzer is one of our greatest arrangers!!
Just now caught this phenomenal performance. Amazing. A long time musician, fan of WDR, fan of Bob Mintzer, and as a fan of any great vocalist like Jazzmeia (just hearing her for the first time), I gotta say this is one of my new favorites...and Karolina, you never cease to amaze with your sound and interpretations of everything put in front of you. Maybe in an alternative universe, I can play in the WDR Big Band.

When I listen to music this good I think that the world can't be that bad.

Karolina’s solo was epic. Perfect.
Thank you, Aimee!
I think of Oliver Nelson with this arrangement. Hauntingly beautiful. Untamed elegance.
I adore this. Everything from Jazzmeia's vocals, to Karolina's sax solo...to Miss Horn's amazing ANKH Jewelry. This is REAL music.
Hey Miss Joy! Thanx for watching!!!
Marvelous singer ! And what a beautiful solo by Karolina... I would have played every single note like that, just as she could read my mind..

OMG what a great piece of music.
This arrangement was exquisite, by far one of my favorite jazz standards.

Just saw Jazzmeia's set at Monterey Jazz Fest. She brought the house down. She's a STAR!!!!

Thank you for your kind words!
I had the pleasure of seeing Jazzmeia perform this classic live a few years ago in Houston. It was magical.

Wow! This absolutely rivals Norma Winstone’s and Mark Murphy’s reads of this classic!
Karolina Strassmayer's incredible!

Very N-I-C-E one!

Very complex. Brings a tear to the eye. Remote echoes of Billie in there, too.
Echoes (or maybe Echo) of Lady Day . Terrific performance , mesmerizing really !
makes me realize what a loss to the jazz scene is Jimmy Roles _ _ and even his daughter .
Beautiful
Thank you, Elliot.
wonderful

@@WDRBIGBAND thank you
@1:23 Sounds like they decided midway not to go with the L I C K
I was thinking the same thing! :D
You need to credit the lyricist: the great Norma Winstone.
Hi Arthur! Thank you for your hint. We will correct it in the description!
yooo whats the sax players @ ?
Hi Sarthak, Her Name is Karolina Strassmayer!
Richard Dawkins on bass.
Hi pmac, no John Goldsby on bass.
@@WDRBIGBAND i was joking
We know:)
Noice
👍
Beautiful but prefer Tierney Sutton's version by a nose.. just slightly more intimate and fragile
Was the sax solo arranged by Bob Mintzer or improvised?
I doubt it’s arranged
Maybe 1/2
Would like to know those 11 thumbs down 🤣
Hi Lillo! ....different people....different taste, that is real life!
@@WDRBIGBAND I agree, as well as I think that real life is sometimes sadly unfair
