This is what truly mature media is. It doesn’t need violence or sex or for explicit and obvious details to be spelled out. This is entertainment without the need for spectacle. Nobody is perfect or better than anyone else, there aren’t any villains or hero’s, just people in each of their own lives doing what they think is right and it’s truly refreshing. This is the most tall, relaxing, and complex glass of water I have ever tasted, and boy howdy I am absolutely parched. Not because this was lacking in any way, but rather because I had no idea how thirsty I was until now.
Yessss! I love the maturity in this film! My hot take is that more childrens content should be this way, kids can understand a whole lot more than we give them credit for. The type of media that babies kids is why we have so many full grown toddlers instead of adults who are emotionally mature
I love. LOVE this kind of soft storytelling. Or what it may be called ‘storytelling with self-control’. There’s no chunk of the total screentime sacrificed for exposition, no forced action to keep you hooked, and no music to fill that beautiful silence; these scenes breathe, literally. You’re just gently taken in for a ride and you kinda forget you’re not actually there with the characters. I’ve only ever seen such purposefully restrained writing in the Lackadaisy pilot. This is special.
I love the way you described it! That's exactly how it feels to me too. It reminds me of the TV show "The Bear" in that way. You get to see the characters living their lives and it feels like real people.

I love the fact that the boss never elaborates on what “enough money” mean. Sure it could be big time upper management being greedy scum bags cutting stuff because it doesn’t make 6 figures, or, more likely considering the state of the worlds economy with unreasonably over priced, under cared for, and mass produced nature of the products, the show itself literally could just not be making enough money to keep the lights on. And that’s what’s great about this dialogue, nothing is really ever 100% concrete while still being communicated completely. What was the disaster? Doesn’t matter, the only important thing is that it happened and hurt people. Is boss just greedy or is he legit stuck in a double bind? Doesn’t matter to the problem at hand, the current profits aren’t “enough”. Are Lawrence and Toni boyfriends? Doesn’t matter, all that does is that they care about each other and continue help each other be better. This is how you world build and give context without it being exposition.

This is one of the best indie films ive watched in the while. The vibes. The characters. The colours. The music. Everything has the right amount of funk and heart put in, making it an absoulute joy to watch. LOVE YOU, TONY AND LARRENCE ❤❤❤❤❤
I was kind of shocked when the video ended and I realized I was watching a video, I was so completely invested to the point where seeing the real world around me was jarring.
This actually takes place in the Neon Genesis Evangelion universe years after Shinji puts everyone back together but also fucks up and makes the animals talk
i am absolutely mentally unwell about these two and it hurts. it hurts so much and i love it. i don't think you understand how much this has actually deeply affected me. i've been rambling about how i need people to check this video out on tumblr and im praying these two develop a fandom. i seriously love every single thing about this video. the storytelling. the music. the voice acting. the character design. the representation. the colors. the animation style. the entire essence this thing gives off is everything i can only hope to become. it reminds me of a warm cabin in the middle of the woods and i can only hope to be able to live in this little cabin for the rest of my life. just because of this video i needed to watch the rest of the videos on this channel and i adore each of them just as much. please keep doing what you love. you can tell how much care and genuineness is put into it and the world really does need more of this kind of realness. thank you for these two idiots, i will never forget them.
The 14 mins intimidated me when i first saw it, especially as an animation, but I'm so glad i stuck around. Because giving it a chance showed me a really incredible piece of art, with story and depth and leaves you thinking. Im not sure how to word this without it sounding like a fake review, but it's so good. As much as I hate it, seeing worlds like this so broken down and distraught and quietly chaotic have such an impact on me. I love these two. So glad I watched. This really is the age of indie animation and storytelling, independents just keep getting better and better.
I think about this film a lot. As an animation student myself, it’s given me a lot to think about when it comes to story and composition. Truly one of my favorite short films!! Great job!!
I saw it at two o'clock in the night, when I was already on the verge of falling asleep and I clicked on this video because I usually need something in the background. But I stared at the screen with my eyes wide open all 15 minutes, on the verge of tears several times, and I'm writing this comment as if I wasn't ready to die on my pillow right just before watching this animation. This. It just hit me. It hits all the right places. This is the first indie animation that I feel such strong kinship with, from the art style to all the details of the plot. And I recognized Lawrence's slavic accent, but hearing Russian was still an incredibly pleasant surprise. As a Russian, with all these horrible things happening in the world, with my family, I associated myself with him SO much I cried while writing this comment after all. Despite all that happened, it's still you. And I still like you. With everything.
You did a great job, author! I was surprised that Lorrence said "Thank you" in Russian at the end of the show. In any case, everything turned out cool: the world and the inhabitants in it, the atmosphere, the voice acting and the characters themselves!! Strength and patience for the next projects!!
This is possibly one of the most captivating animated short films I've seen... no joke! The nuances in yheir behaviour.are so intriguing yes, and the absolutely comforting dynamic between Toni and Lawrence is also fantastic, but what I love most is the message it communicates. Just loving the emphasis on knowing that staying alive and there in the moment is enough, and there are always people out there in the world you couldn't love you more for it. This is crazy good bro, praying it blows up across the algorithm 🙏
Lawrence and Toni are really really good friends, right? Nothing underneath 🤨🤨. I kid i kid but i find it interesting when kids media have episodes like that. discussing a serious topic that even adults can learn from watching. Also even the ending had me getting emotional and tearing up a bit. A very impactful message. Thank you
Hi I’m back because I’m thinking about the pacing and order of how we learn about the disaster. Others have already talked about what a great idea it was to keep the disaster vague, but I also love that it’s not at the forefront until they’re filming the show at the end. There’s plenty going on in the background, of course, but upon first viewing it read to me as ads for day-to-day accident insurance and whatnot, the bland messaging of an apathetic society. But Lawrence taking off his shirt at the halfway point was so effective for me. My initial interpretation, intended or not, was self-harm scars, especially given the tone of this and the scene before, the fact that he’s clearly been venting without overtly acknowledging the gravity of his mental state, and even how tightly he hugs himself as he removes the shirt, like he’s both expressing and consoling his own fear and regret. None of these reactions ring false given the context of the twist later. The initial misconception deepened the disaster so much for me, because it shifts focus even further away from its events. By the time it’s talked about, it’s answering “what gave Lawrence these scars,” not “what happened to this place,” which makes the specifics much more abstract. Obviously to these people there was a tangible disaster, but in the liminalness of the film it feels very metaphorical to me. In a way, the disaster, to me, _is_ that we break, that we grow isolated, that we despair, that we lose the warmth of narratives like their show provides. And I love that Lawrence and Toni find an authentic way to talk about that tragedy in a worldview that stands by comfort. It rebuilds the infrastructure in a small way. I also love the scene where they throw out other special episode ideas, because it stresses that authentic communication to children is a level above pulling out categorically mature themes that say “Here are the adult issues of the world.” Lawrence has to look around, draw from a very specific emotion, approach the script from a deeply personal level, and say, “Here are _my_ secrets. Here’s _my_ world.” I adore the theme that kids are worthy of that respect. Just such a masterful film invoking such a powerful feeling. I said this in an earlier comment when this dropped, but thank you for making this. I feel like it’s going to become something very sacred to me in the long term.
ALSO this very well may have been an editing coincidence but at 12:56 it seems like the filter goes away for just a moment, like this a moment beyond the script, where Lawrence forgets he’s acting and feels truly seen, and I just think that’s neat 😭
Girl, i would watch a whole series abt them. Its rlly well made, the construction of the story is great and the characters are well presented. Its incredible, my friend and i are talking abt it so much rn abt how good it is
This was such a moving film! Being an educator myself, I can relate to Lawrence and Toni’s outlooks and experiences. The quiet introspection and comforting tone of the visuals, sound, voice acting, and everything else all fit perfectly together. A new favorite for sure!!
NOOOO i was so invested i didn't feel the time pass and it was over already 😭😭 makes me really want to see more of them now, putting that aside... i was kinda hyped for this and it didn't disappoint in the slightest, i love how everything is constructed from the world building to the characters and the side characters around them, everything seems to be so carefully thought out and I'll be looking forward to more works from you
Truly amazing, though I expect nothing less from you. The voice acting, the sound design, the pacing, the story... It's all done so well. We only spend 15 minutes in this world but we can understand it, feel like a part of it. A fantastic story.
Have seen little glimpses of this film being developed, but didn’t know what it was about until now. I love the concept and how it all plays out, so sweet

as someone who as struggled with his mental health for years, i love this animation, i made cry in a good way. I've already watched the vase scene like 3 times. i related to Lawrence deeply so everything Toni said to comfort him comforted me as well. Very good work :)
I watched a lot of PBS shows growing up, like Mr. Rogers, the Electric Company, Sesame Street, etc., and this short really honors the commitment and integrity of those who help shape the minds of children to become wise, compassionate adults. Not to mention the worldbuilding is integrated seamlessly! So good!
Okay, where do I begin with this? Just, wow.. This has one of the most realistic and like, relatable story telling to me at least? More than most *hollywood* films I know, especially with the dialogue. It's something which is obviously from some, I don't know, somewhere sincere. There was a story to tell. And it was told so, so realistically and beautifully. Some parts which really stood out was the body language. To me, thoughts and states are shown mostly through body language, especially when something is internal. Irritability, worry, nervousness ect. It captured so realistically. The tears in Lawrence's eyes when he almost cries but not quite. In the meeting with Toni, everything is so thought through. It's beautiful. The stylisation, the jazz music which fit so well and finally the minutes of sincere silence. It's all true talent. This is beautiful. I think you can tell I don't know how to comment on things but I hope the message comes across.

This is one of the best indie films ive watched in the while. The vibes. The characters. The colours. The music. Everything has the right amount of funk and heart put in, making it an absoulute joy to watch. LOVE YOU, TONY AND LARRENCE ❤❤❤❤❤
Heres the toys that came with your meal 😭😭😭😭😭
I was kind of shocked when the video ended and I realized I was watching a video, I was so completely invested to the point where seeing the real world around me was jarring.
I did not expect to cry on this 15 minute journey at all. 10/10, I loved the voice acting and sound effects most of all
I just realized that on 9:07 if you look at the other posters they say “please don’t” and “you’re not alone” which is a good detail
Indie art/animation is becoming the newest era of art, can’t say I’m angry about it
I SAW THIS IN THE OPEN SHOW AND GENUINELY WAS SOBBING. SHEA YOU ARE CRAZY.. god. I can't stop thinking about this film, its genuinely a masterpiece
Ah man, I wish this was what adult animation was more of the time. This is so beautiful with real heart and characters.
1:55 IM DYING THE WAY TONI LOOKS BACK AT LAWRENCE IS SO FUNNY
This actually takes place in the Neon Genesis Evangelion universe years after Shinji puts everyone back together but also fucks up and makes the animals talk
this is so random😭
Evangelion mentioned!
I wonder what Anno’s upset about this time?
Anno-san’s angsty inner life mentioned!
I ALMOST CRIED WHEN HE SAID “спасибо”
i luv it sm
i am absolutely mentally unwell about these two and it hurts. it hurts so much and i love it. i don't think you understand how much this has actually deeply affected me. i've been rambling about how i need people to check this video out on tumblr and im praying these two develop a fandom.
i seriously love every single thing about this video. the storytelling. the music. the voice acting. the character design. the representation. the colors. the animation style.
the entire essence this thing gives off is everything i can only hope to become. it reminds me of a warm cabin in the middle of the woods and i can only hope to be able to live in this little cabin for the rest of my life.
just because of this video i needed to watch the rest of the videos on this channel and i adore each of them just as much. please keep doing what you love. you can tell how much care and genuineness is put into it and the world really does need more of this kind of realness. thank you for these two idiots, i will never forget them.
WE ARE EATING GOOD TONIGHT , MASTERPIECE JUST DROPPED
I think about this film a lot. As an animation student myself, it’s given me a lot to think about when it comes to story and composition. Truly one of my favorite short films!! Great job!!
WOW IM SPEECHLESS THIS IS MY FAVOURITE ANIMATION EVER JUST GENUINELY INCREDIBLE YOU DESERVE SO MUCH RECOGNITION FOR THIS BEAUTY
This tugged on my heartstrings so much that it practically played a whole song 😭😭😭😭
@@picnicsandstars you cooked on this one
I cried so hard and I didn't even know what the disaster was oh my gosh I loved this so much the artstyle and ahhh so amazing
6 seasons and a movie
Girl, i would watch a whole series abt them. Its rlly well made, the construction of the story is great and the characters are well presented. Its incredible, my friend and i are talking abt it so much rn abt how good it is
MORE I NEED MORE THIS IS SO UNDERRATED SOMEONE GET THIS ARTIST A MILLION DOLLARS PLEASEEEEEEEEE THIS FED MY SOUL
i'd watch a full show of this, it made me cry
this is too good!!! i’m now invested into the lore behind the “disaster”
This was such a moving film! Being an educator myself, I can relate to Lawrence and Toni’s outlooks and experiences. The quiet introspection and comforting tone of the visuals, sound, voice acting, and everything else all fit perfectly together. A new favorite for sure!!
NOOOO i was so invested i didn't feel the time pass and it was over already 😭😭 makes me really want to see more of them
now, putting that aside... i was kinda hyped for this and it didn't disappoint in the slightest, i love how everything is constructed from the world building to the characters and the side characters around them, everything seems to be so carefully thought out and I'll be looking forward to more works from you
Truly amazing, though I expect nothing less from you.
Wasn't expecting to almost cry from this, I love how calm but serious the storytelling is, and the art is really cute, everything is just AMAZING, I hope this gets more attention!!! And maybe even a whole show or movie!
We should make a support group for everyone who was absolutely touched by this masterpiece.
Thank you.
THIS IS SO CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED IT SHOULD BE PUT ON A GLOBAL WATCHLIST I AM SOBBING THIS NEEDS MORE VIEWS PEOPLE NEED TO SEE YOUR ART
this is fucking incredible oh my god . the voice acting, the art direction, the animation, the music, the writing, i’m losing my MIND .
I don’t think im ever going to forget watching this…this film is so beautiful and has so much care put into it
Im truly inspired and amazed by your work!! this film really changed me 💛
as someone who as struggled with his mental health for years, i love this animation, i made cry in a good way.
THAT WAS SO FUCKING CUTE OH MY GOD
Nearly cried. Outstanding film, deserves more recognition.
Blues clues gets real
ZAMN THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL, ALMOST SHEAD A TEAR ‼️😭💞
we need more animations that are like this, heartwarming yet heartbreaking at the same time.
This is truly one of the best pieces of media I’ve ever come across from the art to the dialogue and plot to the message not to mention the subtle word building it’s really beautiful
The voice actors in this were excellent
Such a lovely story, and I love Tony & Lawrence's relationship ❤❤
historians will say they were best friends
I'm not even done watching the video and I'm already trying my hardest to not bawl my eyes out-
holy cow.
i cannot express how much i loved this. genuinely. I CANT PUT IT INTO WORDS HOW GREAT THIS IS. LIKE. the storytelling- the exposition- the pacing- the art- ALL OF IT. GREAT. I LOVED IT. i feel like came into this a boy and came out a man, holy crap. this was great
I clicked this because my name is Toni, but I stayed because this is INCREDIBLE. Fantastic work. I want a whole show now, plz.
That "спасибо" melted my russian heart, I'm crying
This was absolutely amazing. Was not expecting that new episode plot, and was definitely not expecting to shed a few tears. This is some of the best animation I’ve seen-the style of it, the colors, and the message behind it-the characters were also so well developed and I hope you continue doing animation like this. You have a real talent.
This is probably the most story message that I enjoyed and related to the most.❤💕
That was absolutely beautiful. I love the 1970s Multiplication Rock x Mr. Rogers love.
This deserves awards!! AHHH the storytelling the not over-explanation! THIS IS AMAZING!!
The talent in the voice acting and the beautiful expression of the animation makes this INCREDIBLE. One of my favorite short films I've ever watched :3
I really like this movie- the dynamic between the protagonists, the world and atmosphere, artstyle and everything else:D
I'm hoping, wishing that this WILL have a fandom.
