In the first half of 1970, the Ferrari 512 was actually quicker than the 917 because the 917 had only a 4,5 litre engine, much less powerfull than the Ferrari's more modern 5,0l engine. But Porsche won in Dayton and in Monza because of the superior organization of the Porsche Gulf team. Especillay in Monza, where Ferrari's team manager made several mistakes that made his cars loose a lot of time and loose the race. The 512 S was a very good machine that deserved more victories.
Well stated. Same respect for the 312T then too. I'm not a (Enzo based) Ferrari fan, but I do have to give that organization credit since they were fighting on two fronts - WEC and F1 - and managed to achieve considerable success.

It's wonderful to see this footage. The Porsche 917's, Ferrari 512's etc are some of the finest racing cars in history.

Loved it. Though the 917 is my favorite the 512 deserves some respect. A 2-3-4 after 1,000km is damn strong in my book.
