The craziest thing about this scene is that at this point, Luffy already knows what the admirals are capable of. His crew had previously been wrecked by Aokiji and Kizaru, so he knows that he naturally stands no chance. In this scene Luffy is not ignorant as he usually was. Here he is displaying pure guts and courage.

I don't see Luffy beating the admirals. Aokiji can freeze him to death. Akainu.can Burn. Well maybe can beat Kizaru, after all Raighly use Haki against him
Nah hes not ready for a 1v1 yet. Even if he has trained his Haki alot the Admirals have atleast 20 years or more Training. Maybe he can put up a decent fight in both his Gear 4 forms but ultimately he would get bodied by each of them. Kizaru is the most likely to have some Problems with Luffy (even though we never saw him being serious so who knows how crazy that guy can get) but Akainu and Aokiji would destroy him.
That landing was just so badass. The best part about it imo. The water hammers down directly in front of the admirals, there is that moment of "who is going to be revealed?" Then BAM! Luffy in a badass pose. Not one meant to be, but it is. Exhausted, injured, barely able to stand, holding that shattered mast in his arm, he lands in front of the admirals and doesnt even pay them any attention. His focus (and blurry vision) is only on Ace. This is pure luffy. he doesnt care whats in his path. In the most literal meaning possible he doesnt care. All he cares about is he is close to ace and is about to rescue him. Sure it doesnt work out that way, but even so. I mean heck, even his enemies are startled and impressed. The freaking admirals are acknowledging him for his sheer guts and determination. The regular marines are aghast. The pirates are shocked and jubilant. This was basically his crowning moment of awesome in this battle.
I agree with you I don't even think he heard what any of the admirals said he's just focused on Ace. I watched a one piece epic scenes vid and this wasn't even on the list.
What really gets me is that he's not paying attention to the big monsters in front of him, his vision is failing, his body falling apart and he must be in immesurable pain. And yet he only has eyes for Ace. His terrified older brother.
This arc had shown that you can reach peak fiction in OP without utilizing or over utilizing Haki in animations. Truly one of the best arcs in anime history.
I think something like this will happen again in the future but that time Zoro & Sanji will be on either side of Luffy and the monster trio is gonna kick some ass.

Luffy is the only Supernova with a Grand fleet made of 5000 members. Luffy was the first person to defeat Charlotte Katakuri who is the second strongest person in Big Mom pirates after herself.

Whitebeard appreciates sheer balls in a pirate. And lets face it, the only reason luffy doesnt clank when he walks is his body is made of rubber. Heh, it doesnt hurt that luffy just keeps surpassing everything whitebeard thinks he is capable of.
He destroys Enies Lobby, escapes from Impel Down the inescapable prison, and now facing against the strong arm of the justice in the HQ Marines, to save Ace at any cost. And although Luffy is weaker than admirals he persists to continue an difficult fight, for Ace and only to deliver Ace. A symbolic moment.
That is why he will be king of pirates. No matter the odds, Luffy persists. He got beat up pretty bad by multiple enemies before, but he still continued to fight.
My favourite thing about this scene is Aokiji. From the begining he was the first marine/member of the world gvt who recognized Luffy as a genuine threat, I mean when they met at the start of Water 7 Aokiji commented how Luffy's bounty was quite low still however given what he and his crew have accomplished with such few numbers and so little time he straight up said "I've been a marine for a long time but you scare the shit out of me". Keep in mind this was an Admiral saying that even way back when. And then you get this scene and sure you have both Akainu and Kizaru praising Luffy for his tenacity which on its own is just crazy but its what Aokiji says that really sticks with me; "Oh no! You FINALLY made it!", I emphasise finally to show that Aokiji 100% expected Luffy to make it there one way or another ever since he joined the war which again says a lot. And then you've got: "But you're not good enough to reach this stage YET", again this tiny little detail just adds to what Aokiji expects of Luffy, I mean at this point both Akainu and Kizaru are 100% sure this kid is just dead and so is basically everyone, but the adition of that "Yet" from Aokiji makes me feel as though he still believes Luffy will grow more (therefore also believing Luffy will make it out somehow), and then finally you have his reaction to Luffy's Haki, and don't get me wrong everyone reacted to it but his reaction in particular sticks with me for someone who is so reserved and quiet to basically remark "are you fucking kidding me". All this to say that Shanks was the first powerful Pirate to see Luffy's potential and Aokiji was the first powerful member of the World Gvt to see his potential, and I really really really want to see Aokiji return. My instinct tells me that when the world gvt arc(s) do come around, he will be a key figure in bringing the world gvt down and I'm guessing he will have a big role in starting some kind of revolution within the world gvt bringing together characters like fujitora, smoker, coby and the other good marines we've seen throughout the story because we know that at one point or anotehr they will turn against the world gvt and I hope Aokiji will be a big part of that.
Akainu also knows how much of a threat luffy is but it is for another reason. Akainu seems to have some form of ptsd from Dragon. Although luffy by this stage is a notorious pirate of his own right, akainu still calls him only by dragons son. Also his comment, your standing tall, dragons son kinda shows you the respect he has for dragon. Sorta like he expected nothing less from the son of the worlds most dangerous criminal
This is by far one of the best moments in all one piece. Luffy literally stands fearless even when he has not the slightest chance of winning, in front of three enemies who could easily destroy him individually, in midst of a battle that dwarfs everything he has previously faced. He's tired, blooding, and close to passing out but he gives a damn about all of that and looks ahead, over the pain, over the admirals, over the world itself... towards ace.
NotHenryG at least naruto shows us the conclusion of fights and doesn't just leave it out and continue with the story line, like nothing happend. At least Naruto doesn't give us smoke ball fights where u can only see fists and feet lol and the graphics are 110× better!

This is probably the reason why his bounty went so high and what makes the world government weary of him, Luffy showed that he is more than willing to attack the admirals the ultimate force of the government with no fear and the fact that he has conquerors haki means that he has the potential to actually do some serious damage to them.
You know, whether they were friend or foe, Navy or Pirate, everyone walked away from this war with at least a tiniest bit of begrudging respect for Luffy.
I loved this scene. I love how despite Luffy's efforts when he finally got close to Ace he found himself completely outmatched, and he stayed that way. I love how Oda kept the level scale this way, it made Luffy feel very vulnerable in contrast to the rest of the fighters, a very unique move for a generic shounen manga to pull. Kudos Oda, truly a good story-teller for the medium.
You can see by Whitebeard's smile, the respect he has for Luffy at this point. I'm sure he thought "this guy will be king of pirates, he reminds me of Roger"
I think I finally understand why akainu wanted to kill Luffy so bad and avoided blackbead at marineford, akainu saw the limitless potential in Luffy and knew if he let him escape, he would be unstoppable when he got older and stronger. Akainu has seen and dealt with numerous pirates like blackbeard and knows their desire for power will eventually lead to their downfall but a kid like luffy is dangerous because he could care less about that.

Something about this when you watch it and it really goes to show Luffy's character. When he did this, even though in the back of your head you know the Admirals are way stronger than he is, because it is him. Because it is Luffy you believe he can do it. (At least I had that feeling when I first saw this) Same with when he challenged Whitebeared, I've never in my life have laughed while being scared. Just something about Luffy makes you feel like it's gonna turn out all right in the end.
I like how even Akainu is impressed with Luffy instead of immediately killing him. He even takes the time to mention Luffy's father. Makes me think Dragon used to be a Marine.

NORAN RAD In current state Luffys full power is probably about roughly the same as 1 admiral, you all are under-estemating the power of characters like Kizaru, Akainu, Ao kiji and Fujitora.
He challeneged the admirals, the strongest force in the marine, with a frickin log! In a state where he was so beaten down at that point considering the was not much rest between sabaody , impel down and this, not to mention he is in sea water. And there isn't even a hint of fear or care about who's in front of him, to him they are just obstacles to his goal, to save ace of which he doesnt even pay much attention to them and is fixated on ace. This right here, is why Monkey D Luffy is my favourite anime protagonist of all time and in my opinion one of thee best main characters in anime out there! My friend show me this anime with marineford war i was into it when i saw one piece. He was always talk about how he wanted to see akainu fight when luffy is ready for it. He passed 2 years ago 2022 from covid. I stop watching when he died cuz i couldnt do it. i will watch akainu vs luffy when it happens with sadness.
I really love the traces of characterization Akainu gets here. Even at this point, he refuses to a knowledge Luffy as Luffy, only caring about him in the context of being Dragon's son.

This has to be and probably will be one of luffy's best moments in all One Piece history. Having the balls to fly over that wall using his one weakness into a hoard of Marine forces and slamming down in front of the 3 Admirals, almost everyone (pirate and marine) would be thinking Luffy has some type of plan for the situation. But of course, you, me, and everyone else know damn well Luffy has not a single, calculated idea of how he's gonna pull off getting past these 3 unbeatable monsters, get on those platforms, and ke-hall Ace outta there. With his body at it's limit from escaping Impel Down, his mind at the point of exhaustion, he can only think of his one goal: Get. Ace. Free. And you know that as long as that goal was in his mind, only death itself would be able to permanently stop him in his tracks. At the end of the day, this is probably just a "Luffy being Luffy" moment at its finest.
For some reason, I knew Luffy's quest was doomed to fail from the start. Every anime has to have one death that is impactful to the MC and I figured Ace was gonna be the guy to bite it for Luffy.

Even when they freed him Kizaru could’ve caught up at light speed and held them until Akainu came. What itches my balls is that Ace was bitching and moaning about the people dying for him then proceeds to wipe his ass with their sacrifice.
This is one of the anime’s best moments. I feel that no one ever talks about (despite Aces fate) that Luffy gave up ten years of his life for the hormone boost from Iva!
I love how admirals are completely different to each other just looking at they hands: -Aokiji has open palm hands means free and kind. -akainu has clinched fists means anger or serious. -kizaru has cool pose of his hand because his hands is on the pocket means cool and easy and also high. I REALLY love the setting up leading to this scene. A few arcs ago we met Aokiji, the first admiral to appear, and we got a taste just how HOPELESS our rubber captain facing him. A few arcs later, Luffy had grown but he's STILL way outclassed. He might be able to fight off vice-admirals, but admirals are on the other level. And Oda didn't pull bs out of his ass by giving Luffy a sudden power up powered by the power of friendship to even FIGHT these monsters. In fact, I really love the symbolism of Logia here. No matter how desperate or determined Luffy was, he still couldn't TOUCH the admirals. And the admirals' words in the face of this desperate weakling that wanted to face them? Impeccable. "Unfortunately, you're not ready for this stage yet." And that stayed true for the remaining of the arc. Luffy was shot down by Kizaru once, Akainu nearly killed him, Aokiji was the only one who didn't wound him and even subtly giving him a chance to escape due to his respect to Garp.

And although Luffy is weaker than admirals he persists to continue an difficult fight, for Ace and only to deliver Ace. A symbolic moment.
That is why he will be king of pirates. No matter the odds, Luffy persists. He got beat up pretty bad by multiple enemies before, but he still continued to fight.

My favourite thing about this scene is Aokiji. From the begining he was the first marine/member of the world gvt who recognized Luffy as a genuine threat, I mean when they met at the start of Water 7 Aokiji commented how Luffy's bounty was quite low still however given what he and his crew have accomplished with such few numbers and so little time he straight up said "I've been a marine for a long time but you scare the shit out of me". Keep in mind this was an Admiral saying that even way back when.
And then you get this scene and sure you have both Akainu and Kizaru praising Luffy for his tenacity which on its own is just crazy but its what Aokiji says that really sticks with me; "Oh no! You FINALLY made it!", I emphasise finally to show that Aokiji 100% expected Luffy to make it there one way or another ever since he joined the war which again says a lot. And then you've got: "But you're not good enough to reach this stage YET", again this tiny little detail just adds to what Aokiji expects of Luffy, I mean at this point both Akainu and Kizaru are 100% sure this kid is just dead and so is basically everyone, but the adition of that "Yet" from Aokiji makes me feel as though he still believes Luffy will grow more (therefore also believing Luffy will make it out somehow), and then finally you have his reaction to Luffy's Haki, and don't get me wrong everyone reacted to it but his reaction in particular sticks with me for someone who is so reserved and quiet to basically remark "are you fucking kidding me".
All this to say that Shanks was the first powerful Pirate to see Luffy's potential and Aokiji was the first powerful member of the World Gvt to see his potential, and I really really really want to see Aokiji return. My instinct tells me that when the world gvt arc(s) do come around, he will be a key figure in bringing the world gvt down and I'm guessing he will have a big role in starting some kind of revolution within the world gvt bringing together characters like fujitora, smoker, coby and the other good marines we've seen throughout the story because we know that at one point or anotehr they will turn against the world gvt and I hope Aokiji will be a big part of that.

Akainu also knows how much of a threat luffy is but it is for another reason. Akainu seems to have some form of ptsd from Dragon. Although luffy by this stage is a notorious pirate of his own right, akainu still calls him only by dragons son. Also his comment, your standing tall, dragons son kinda shows you the respect he has for dragon. Sorta like he expected nothing less from the son of the worlds most dangerous criminal

This is by far one of the best moments in all one piece. Luffy literally stands fearless even when he has not the slightest chance of winning, in front of three enemies who could easily destroy him individually, in midst of a battle that dwarfs everything he has previously faced. He's tired, blooding, and close to passing out but he gives a damn about all of that and looks ahead, over the pain, over the admirals, over the world itself... towards ace.

This is probably the reason why his bounty went so high and what makes the world government weary of him, Luffy showed that he is more than willing to attack the admirals the ultimate force of the government with no fear and the fact that he has conquerors haki means that he has the potential to actually do some serious damage to them.

I loved this scene. I love how despite Luffy's efforts when he finally got close to Ace he found himself completely outmatched, and he stayed that way. I love how Oda kept the level scale this way, it made Luffy feel very vulnerable in contrast to the rest of the fighters, a very unique move for a generic shounen manga to pull. Kudos Oda, truly a good story-teller for the medium.
He did an inversion to the David vs. Goliath symbolism with a realistic outcome.
You can see by Whitebeard's smile, the respect he has for Luffy at this point. I'm sure he thought "this guy will be king of pirates, he reminds me of Roger"

I think I finally understand why akainu wanted to kill Luffy so bad and avoided blackbead at marineford, akainu saw the limitless potential in Luffy and knew if he let him escape, he would be unstoppable when he got older and stronger. Akainu has seen and dealt with numerous pirates like blackbeard and knows their desire for power will eventually lead to their downfall but a kid like luffy is dangerous because he could care less about that.

Something about this when you watch it and it really goes to show Luffy's character. When he did this, even though in the back of your head you know the Admirals are way stronger than he is, because it is him. Because it is Luffy you believe he can do it. (At least I had that feeling when I first saw this) Same with when he challenged Whitebeared, I've never in my life have laughed while being scared. Just something about Luffy makes you feel like it's gonna turn out all right in the end.

He challeneged the admirals, the strongest force in the marine, with a frickin log! In a state where he was so beaten down at that point considering the was not much rest between sabaody , impel down and this, not to mention he is in sea water. And there isn't even a hint of fear or care about who's in front of him, to him they are just obstacles to his goal, to save ace of which he doesnt even pay much attention to them and is fixated on ace. This right here, is why Monkey D Luffy is my favourite anime protagonist of all time and in my opinion one of thee best main characters in anime out there! I cry every time i see this scene, I love luffy so much!!!

This has to be and probably will be one of luffy's best moments in all One Piece history.
Having the balls to fly over that wall using his one weakness into a hoard of Marine forces and slamming down in front of the 3 Admirals, almost everyone (pirate and marine) would be thinking Luffy has some type of plan for the situation. But of course, you, me, and everyone else know damn well Luffy has not a single, calculated idea of how he's gonna pull off getting past these 3 unbeatable monsters, get on those platforms, and ke-hall Ace outta there. With his body at it's limit from escaping Impel Down, his mind at the point of exhaustion, he can only think of his one goal: Get. Ace. Free. And you know that as long as that goal was in his mind, only death itself would be able to permanently stop him in his tracks.
At the end of the day, this is probably just a "Luffy being Luffy" moment at its finest.

For some reason, I knew Luffy's quest was doomed to fail from the start. Every anime has to have one death that is impactful to the MC and I figured Ace was gonna be the guy to bite it for Luffy.

Even when they freed him Kizaru could’ve caught up at light speed and held them until Akainu came. What itches my balls is that Ace was bitching and moaning about the people dying for him then proceeds to wipe his ass with their sacrifice.

Luffy was launched through the air (willingly) while within a jet of sea water aka the worst possible mode of transport for a DF user yet arrives at his destination with just as much spunk and determination while staring down 3 of the 5 strongest enemies. I REALLY love the setting up leading to this scene. A few arcs ago we met Aokiji, the first admiral to appear, and we got a taste just how HOPELESS our rubber captain facing him. A few arcs later, Luffy had grown but he's STILL way outclassed. He might be able to fight off vice-admirals, but admirals are on the other level. And Oda didn't pull bs out of his ass by giving Luffy a sudden power up powered by the power of friendship to even FIGHT these monsters.
In fact, I really love the symbolism of Logia here. No matter how desperate or determined Luffy was, he still couldn't TOUCH the admirals. And the admirals' words in the face of this desperate weakling that wanted to face them? Impeccable. "Unfortunately, you're not ready for this stage yet." And that stayed true for the remaining of the arc. Luffy was shot down by Kizaru once, Akainu nearly killed him, Aokiji was the only one who didn't wound him and even subtly giving him a chance to escape due to his respect to Garp.
