This movie was made 23 years ago, and still to this very day, has one of the best twist endings in the history of cinema. Even with all the many hints throughout, no one could have guessed the end. This is hands down one of M. Night Shyamalan's greatest movies.

It’s the sort of thing that you don’t have a clue watching it, but afterwards you look back and realize the clues were there all the time. This is the best of M. Night shamylans (sp?) movies, though I also loved “Signs”

It's difficult to find but her performance in JAPANESE STORY (2003) is even more outstanding because she is the lead character. This is a SLOW film so be patient. The last third is one of the most haunting 'what-if-this-happened-to-you?' films I've ever seen.

I've watched this movie numerous times, and I've watched quite a few reactions to it on youtube. It always fascinates me that people seeing it for the first time (including me) are so involved in the story that they don't notice that the mother who poisoned her daughter is dressed all in RED at her own daughter's funeral -- something that would stand out as INSANE in the "normal" world.

It's a shame when the Oscars have to stoop to highly dramatic performances put on during them, to get people interested in them, again. I don't care what some people say about body language or anything, these were top-notch actors and they could pull off such a thing. "I see dead people" - and I can hear them too. It's not something I ever imagined I would ever be able to do. But sometimes "life" throws things at you where things 'turn on a dime' and suddenly you are thrust into another dimension of life experience. So, yes, even though I've enjoyed a wonderful life in general - lots of travel, working for great companies - I also have dipped my toe into the 'psychic' world. Where 'life' actually is quite beautiful. "Death" is really just a step into another room, that is also another dimension. A place we've all been to many times before, and will travel to again, and again. Where those we love await us. A place that will feel very comfortable to everyone, when we leave our body.

I also like how Ellie avoids spoiling anything for her friends. At some point, she is even biting het lips to stay quiet.
One thing that surprises me is very common among multiple reactors, is the scene before Bruce Willies starts seeing the kid, there is a sign on the screen that says something like "5 years later" and so many reactors assume that is the guy from the beginning, and they are looking into the past. I assume they are still recovering from the shock of Bruce Willie's character being shot and concentrating on their own thoughts instead of watching what is happening in the movie.

This movie always freaked me out. When I was a kid we lived in Hawaii. We were in a small town on Oahu called Temple Valley. We lived in the townhouses next to a cemetery called Valley Of The Temples. You can google the area and see the cemetery. Its actually pretty cool looking. You'll also probably see fruit on graves. Hawaiians believe you will anger the spirits if you dont leave food. Anyway, there were some VERY scary and disturbing things that happened in those townhouses. Hawaii is beautiful but there is some weird shit there. I was scarred for life! (lol)

My mother grew up in Waimanalo. She told me many ghost stories about hawaii and it's different locations as a kid. SCARY STUFF. Especially about people sending back "rocks and sand" from the island taken as a souvenir.

@@luketimewalker Way too much to type. But basically everything from seeing shadows in dark rooms, to "the cursed diary", to pets committing suicide, to your (and your whole family) entire personality changing to something dark and unsettling. And it wasnt just my family. It seemed everyone in those townhouses had the same attitude and look of fear all the time.

1:17 "That is one fine frame. One fine frame, that is. [...] Do I really sound like Dr. Suess?" "Who is this?"
Dr. Seuss is the pen name of a famous author of children's books/poems. He has a particular style of writing that involves rhyming and short sentences that are often at least partly restated. For example, from one of his most famous books, Green Eggs and Ham:
I will not eat them in a house.
I will not eat them with a mouse.
I will not eat them in a box.
I will not eat them with a fox.
I will not eat them here or there.
I will not eat them anywhere.
I do not like green eggs and ham.
I do not like them, Sam-I-Am!
