Snail’s shell and egg shell are primarily source of calcium for snails and not food.
Of course, it can serve as a STAND-IN food because once they eat it, it can still temporarily subdue the hunger at a given time.
NOTE:
In snail farming, Calcium only helps snails to grow their shell and snail’s egg formation while good feed helps the snail’s meat to grow.
This implies that if you keep feeding your snails with good feeds without calcium, the snail’s meat would be big or even outgrow the shell. Likewise, if you keep feeding calcium to your snails without good feeds, your snail’s shell would be big while the meat content would be very small.
