I'm trying to remember now, I know I saw couple more old school anime films on TV in the '80/ 90's as a kid. I know Gall Force was one of them. Got some more titles from that period I could check out?
That opening sequence of sailing ships was AWESOME. The technical detail of the Space Age is very good too. OH WOW, the fully sailed up ship is AWESOME looking too. The best part is that is very realistic at least futuristic technical concepts wise. 23:30 is beyond words indeed visually. Gravity Isolation Sailing is not Warp Speed, but is not too shabby. OF COURSE THEY HAVE TO RESCUE A SEXY GIRL to join an all male crew, right?. Girl is Alien, right or someone in contact with Aliens. Oh that is so cool, they added Viking Origin legends too to the story. What did they expected, be welcome in Viking heaven?. Of course they had to prove themselves worth of going there first. Boatswain nooo, that was a little sad for a scene. That Alien death Scene is so Death Star of Star Wars like, is it not?. So they created a machine that became self aware and destroyed their Odin Memories. OH CRAP, IS THE BORG!!!. So Stargate and Independence day borrowed or had similar endings too?. SPACE, A WONDRFUL SEA TO SAIL, wow well said Captain thank You for your leadership and services. The musical performance at the end was neat too.

懐かしい、当時東映動画で働いていて人手が足らなくて手伝いに入ったら、徹夜続きで家に帰れなくなったなあ
実はこのアニメ初めて拝見しました。
こうした光子帆船は昔の映画（惑星大戦争（大魔艦はローマ軍艦）や宇宙からのメッセージ（エメラリーダ））と同じで
デザイナーは昔の帆船が好みだったか、未知なる大海原を駆けるロマンを感じられるようにデザインしたのかもなあ…。
サラが凄く美人に描かれているけど、銀髪がなんとなくエメラリーダのソフィア姫を連想してしまう。
北欧神話のルーツが２万年前に人類と接触した異星人というストーリー、とても面白かったです。
