Good content Paul. I went through the SRRV process at JRC in Dumaguete. They were professional throughout the process and answered inquiries quickly. Although the process could be faster, it was slower in Manila , not JRC. Thanks Kim at JRC for all your help.
One oddity of the SRRV is that you have to inform SRRV before departure and upon return when you travel internationally. This can be done online but is inconvenient.
One thing that JRC must implement is the ability for people to pay them by card. It would definitely expedite the payment time and lessons the need to deal with cash, especially when one is paying thousands of foreign currency.

I got my SRRV 3 weeks ago in Makati. I don't regret the 6-week wait. The staff walked me through it like the baby I am. Now I can legally open up a bank account by myself in the Philippines, and not have to worry about registering for the tourist visa. Just renue my SRRV card before it expires, and pay the yearly srrv fee.

I signed up for the JRC email newsletter a long time ago. It is a great resource that I learned from when Pea had JR on her channel. It is important to have professionals on your team...JRC, an independent lawyer, and maybe an accountant. It will make your life much more relaxing and stress-free when living abroad.

Oh good, I want to hear this one. I contacted a Visa consultant who appeared on TheFilipinaPea. I emailed this consultant several times and never got back to me. If I fired up my laptop I could find my copy of sent emails to reveal which consultancy group it was, but I can't be bothered. Thank you Paul for this video. ACR card is good proof of senior citizen for discounts. When going to immigration, bring your own pen. If you want to have some fun, use a flourescent pen, it won't photocopy. Just sayin

Two points to make….if one already in the Philippines, he or she will not get the 13A spousal visa but only the 13A probationary visa, obtaining the spousal only a year later. The other point is that some services are now available online such as tourist visa waiver, ECC- B, tourist visa extension and annual report after registration.

It appears that the SSRV visa route may be best for me...even if plans for my stay in the PI may or may not be long term....definitely a lot less headaches and other hoops to jump through. I agree using a service makes sense as they know the paperwork and system and can get things done quicker than doing it yourself. In addition, they are responsible if something was submitted incorrectly or if there are issues with the paperwork. I have about 3 years to go before I may retire in the PI, so I need to get educated now so I am ready when the time comes. Thanks for sharing this vital information.

Philippine Retirement Authority pays accredited Marketers a cut from application costs. Applicant need not pay fees to agencies to obtain SRRV visa assistance. A TIP for good service may be in order. I paid 100$ tip in addition to the actual hard costs to obtain SRRV.

I used to think that, but the issue is the lump sum deposit - specifically where you have to put it, and how you get it back (if ever). The Thai system is better - you can put it any Thai bank account and then show proof of deposit - simple and you get your choice of bank. I'm very wary of transferring lump sums to some account I don't have control over. Personally I'd use the tourist visa/renew approach, but I think at some point they'll stop that. But like you say, research is the key.

Hi Paul, my wife & I truly enjoy ur vlog. You always seem to stay impartial on things & give positive input on life there. We are baffled at how some expats claim to leave the states bc of all the stress & drama for a stress free life there. But maybe they just have too much time on their hands being retired that they cant help but get caught up in the CHISMAS. We keep our circle small & enjoy each day in paradise there, after all thats what retirement is for. It's mind blowing how 1 vlogger is attacking another there, claiming to be EXPOSING the fraud. Frankly, who cares what someone else has in their past, unless the are a child molester & coming there to pray on the innocent. Enjoy each day as the gift it is in the most beautiful place on earth. But maybe the old saying, " you cant run from yourself " rings true in this case. Meaning the people talking about people there were most likely doing that in their life in the states & old habits are hard to break. Again, thank u for always giving the honest , upbeat view on life there.

Paul, you kept saying a small service charge. It would have been cool, to have gotten basic prices. My experience with these cats to check if I was clean and not on a balcklist or whatever. It cost me 7,000 + pesos. The cost to them in Manila to get the transcript from the BI office was a little over 500 pesos. So, the service charge was 6,500 pesos. Ouch...not a small fee.

For what it's worth I do think it's worth the fee for such a consultant. I've learned from experience that there is often great disparity between what is on the immigration website and what applies on the ground (and even the interpretation on the ground). Also, there are cultural issues, and someone like JR can "grease the wheels" so to speak, as a known "face" to the authorities. I'm primarily UK based, and use tourist visas, but these days if I needed to extend or otherwise deal with immigration I'd use a consultant. Worth every penny IMHO.

Paul, I found this on the Internet..ECC-B (Exit Clearance) and how to get it.. The B is for people who have stayed for less than 6 months and plan to return. The ECC-B A is for those who have stayed 6 months or more. One needs to apply 3 days prior to departure.
ECC-B may be secured at the BI Main Office or in the airport upon departure. Fill up the ECC Application form. Note that the form requires you to attach a 2×2 colored photograph with a white background taken within the last three (3) months. Present your passport and ACR I-Card. On many postings, it does say you can get it at the airport on the day of departure.

The ECC is only required if one extends his tourist visa past 6 months of stay. The ECC-B is required by anyone in possession of ACR-I card who wishes to re-enter the country as it keeps the 13A active and has a return authorisation whilst the ECC-A is for those leaving the Philippines permanently…
