She's an amazing woman, I'm her fan since I heard her golden voice a rare crying voice when my mom listening to her music on a turntable 45 rpm, I love listening to her high note voice especially when she sang mama and Lord's Prayer singing with heart and soul so passionate. Bravo! Madam Connie Francis is a great woman of all time season your name is famous here in the Philippines, in fact, I have a collectionS of her greatest hits songs on a CD by MGM AND Polydor. Stay Safe and God bless us all.

I remember this interview. I heard all those rumors about how bad she was but being on Lithium which made her appear different. But all she went thru just to find out she was misdiagnosed. This woman deserves a break. She knew she could either cancel or go on for her fans. She's had enough trouble in her life. So cut her some slack. I'll be a fan of this woman until I die

She is human, therefore we must be considerate with each other. She is also a living legend!

Thank you for changing the title. She's a wonderful person and has been through a lot. She took a lot of steroids to get on stage and perform for her fans and did the best she could. Connie doesn't drink alcohol. Thank you, again and thank you for uploading this interview!!!

Yes, that title was a little sensational. I was hesitant using the that word when I posted it.

@@kph1955 Yes, in watching it I could see that she could be highly medicated here rather than intoxicated.

@@cscarson8798 Having taken steroids, I know they can speed one up a bit. Connie performed perfectly in the U.S. a few months later. I'm sure she was very disappointed that her voice didn't hold up during this very important concert appearance at the Palladium.

I was at 2 of the 4 shows Connie did at The Palladium in November 1989. Generally they were a bit of a mess : her voice had become a croak, and she looked disorientated on stage. She was clearly embarrassed by her efforts to sing, but struggled on, mainly, I think, because her British fans had waited for decades to see her live. She had spent the days prior to her performances visiting doctors to try to have her sore throat treated, but it didn't work. So it was a simple decision : perform as best you can, or cancel. Had you hoped to hear that wonderfully powerful voice hit and hold top notes, as in her records, you were going to be very disappointed. However, at the end of the performances, the crowds trying to get to her dressing-room were like a human tsunami, so they seemed to understand the problem. A few months later, she sang the same repertoire of songs in the USA, and was transformed.
Many of Connie's interviews since 1989 have sounded a bit like this one, a touch of the Dalek, quite hard to pick up most of what she's saying, but presumably she hasn't been intoxicated in all those interviews. I think here that she was still suffering from what afflicted her voice on stage. She has suffered years of medication, and that probably has taken its toll ; even in the early '60s, like the Everly Brothers, she was performing for 9 months of the year, so was being kept on her toes with lots of pills, not realising that they were addictive, as was the case with Don and Phil Everly. She has always said, over 60 years, that she doesn't drink, so I doubt that she'd keep up such a pretense when others of her generation wear their past problems as a badge of honour.
So I don't know for sure, but I do know that in her heyday her voice was unmatched by any other female singer of the 50s and 60s.

“Dallas has.a very low crime rate”
Even during this time period, Dallas was an extremely dangerous city. It seemed like it was safe to her because she hid behind 4 walls for years.
She pushed through her issues and persevered.

I don't think it's a very nice to identify Connie Francis as intoxicated, as she has never drank in her life. I would like to see it removed. Connie doesn't deserve that. You know she had a virus. I was there too at the Palladium.

She sort of was a latter day Judy Garland. Wonderful voice and talent but besieged with torment and tragedies.

She overcame all of that and now lives a very happy and active life, and still lives like a superstar.

Thanks for reposting this clip which hasn't been online in years. I'm a big fan and I think the press was very unkind to this suffering woman. One thing I've never understood is why in the 80s her face started to look very "static" as if she had botulism. Even her lips barely move when she speaks here. I wonder if whatever condition she had contributed to her mumbling. Such an incredibly talented lady who was hurt by so many.

He lives where he grew up, in N. NJ. He was with Connie recently when she received an award.
