    I absolutely LOVE you guys!!! When I first visited Switzerland on a Contiki trip years ago and stayed in Lauterbrunnen, I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Since then, I have travelled extensively throughout the world, but nowhere has even come close to the beauty of Switzerland, which is why I will be visiting there for my 11th time this coming June :-) People have often told me I should work for Swiss tourism because of how much love I have for this country, and how I could go on for hours about it, and then I discovered your INCREDIBLE videos a few months ago and was truly blown away!!! You are as obsessed with this country as I am lol. Your videos are SO well done, so informative, funny, helpful, organized, and you've even taught me a few things I didn't know about this insanely gorgeous country ;-) I think I've watched all of them and I've purchased your travel guide and can't wait to use it!! @@AplinsintheAlps You are so very welcome!! I have also visited around the areas of Gstaad and Montreux many times, and a few special places I would highly recommend if you haven't been there already, are: Sparenmoos (a gorgeous panoramic hike on a plateau above the village of Zweisimmen that gives you breathtaking views of the Bernese Alps, the Simmental, and Saanenland. There is even a trottibike that you can take back down to Zweisimmen after your hike); Lauenen and Lauenensee (an idyllic hamlet and mountain lake near Gstaad - you can take a bus there from Gstaad or hike from Wispile>Chrine>Lauenensee); and finally Chateau d'Oex and hiking on the local mountain La Braye :-)

    Just to add to how to reduce costs in Interlaken.
    Instead of staying in a hotel you can camp for about 50 swiss franks a night (2 people). And the camp grounds in Interlaken are in my opinion the best in Europe.
    Also for those who want to get closer to the Alps, the Gondola from Lauterbrunnen to Grutschalp is CH9 then walk all the way to Gimmelwald via Murren, then catch the Gondola back to the Valley floor for CH6 pp. This is an awesome walk, that is not very strenuous, and a fantastic way to get closer to the Alps.

    • @AplinsintheAlps
      @AplinsintheAlps  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's good to know that you recommend those campgrounds, especially if anyone is interested in camping!
      And we agree that the walk from Grutschalp to Murren to Gimmelwald is beautiful! However, we often recommend a Swiss train pass (like the Berner Oberland Pass) to help cover the costs of those lifts!
      If you're often traveling on a budget and haven't checked out the passes before, definitely watch our Swiss Train Pass video for some tips and ways to save money (hint: the Half Fare card!)

      FYI any weather near the lakes can change quickly. Watch daily weather forecasts and be prepared with rain gear etc. Once when walking back from Giessbach falls we we 10 mins. From our car when the rain 🌧 came.

      @AplinsintheAlps  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yikes! That stinks to have the rain overtake an otherwise fantastic day, but thankfully you didn't have far to walk! We've found Meteo Swiss to be VERY helpful for weather info. Much more accurate than our American weather apps!

    Waterfalls, castle ruins and bakeries! Probably hit a bakery first because it's the easiest.
    So here's a fun video you could do...
    Being that we'd like to visit that area during January what do you think about maybe interviewing locals who can tell us what we can do during that time and what's closed?
    I know you've never been during January so it would be kinda a cool thing for you as well.
    Excited that you guys are there for the whole summer and can feed us all kinds of ideas!

      It’s never a bad idea to start your day at a bakery 😋
      Interesting video idea! I bet the Interlaken tourism website has info about winter activities. I know that many places/shops/restaurants are still open since this is a popular ski area as well.

    • @Motherof6pack
      @Motherof6pack 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AplinsintheAlps One thing I'm curious to know is are the farms still open?

    • @robertkerr9527
      @robertkerr9527 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As a local I can say in January the focus is on the ski slopes etc. But many places have nearby sledding trails as well were they rent sleds. And some places have snow shoeing but not much in the Berneroberland it's too steep. Switzerland tourism has an excellent website that can direct you to each region and villages offerings since we rely on tourism. But you should expect to pay more, and have fewer cheap tourist options in the winter, sorry to say.

    • @robertkerr9527
      @robertkerr9527 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Motherof6pack what do you mean 🤔? Open for what? Farms run 24/7- 365 days a year. I go daily to our local farm and buy fresh milk.

    • @Motherof6pack
      @Motherof6pack 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@robertkerr9527 I understand that the operation of a farm would have to be open year round. We have cows and other animals. However, many times, unless we have a cow get out of sync, we don't have milk available in the winter because they are in their last trimester of their pregnancy.
      So perhaps I should phrase my question as...
      Are the farms stands, the honor system as some call it, where you are able to purchase food from small refrigerators, coolers or even vending machines...are they still open in the winter or does it get so cold the items would freeze? Do the farm owners still sell goods but perhaps in a small indoor building up closer to their home?
      Are they open to purchasing products?

    We love all your videos! I do want to ask, Any recommendations on where to stay if I wanted to go to Zermatt, Jungfrau, & Luzern and have a rental car to get around? And is a rental better/cheaper than using trains?

    • @AplinsintheAlps
      @AplinsintheAlps  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there! We generally feel that it's best in most cases to use the public transportation, unless you're traveling with 4 adults who can split the cost of a rental car, or you really want to travel to off-the-beaten path places that aren't quite as convenient with trains and buses. Keep in mind you can't actually drive your car to Zermatt, so you'll need to park your car one village away during your time there.
      Otherwise, Bönigen, Matten, Ringgenberg, and Stechelberg are great options for the Jungfrau Region if you'll have a car. Brunnen, Sarnen, and Kriens are good options near Lucerne.
      Hope this helps!

    - Michel Beck (Unterseen): Räuberegge-Chueche
    - Bäckerei Mohler (Unterseen): Altstadtzwetschgen
    - Bäckerei Christen (Matten): Meringue --> I like them best with "Crème double de la Gruyère" which you can buy in the Migros in Interlaken. Warning: It has 2Mio Calories!

      Thanks for your compliments! This was filmed in May 2022! But the temperature can really change depending on the weather.
      For example, while we were there in May, we had a few days of hot and sunny (like 30 C/85F) but then the next few days were mild because of rain (around 15C/60F). So it sounds like you may enjoy visiting in May or September for mild weather!

      Hi Tiyash! We haven't been here in October yet, but we were here last year until the 20th of September and it was just starting to get cooler. From what we've heard, October really can be chilly and there might even be snow at higher elevations. But it also is a great time to travel for many reasons! It's kind of in between the summer and winter seasons which means less tourists and more favorable prices. And the autumn colors should be beautiful as well!

    • @AplinsintheAlps
      @AplinsintheAlps  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We're not totally sure what you're asking, but here are some (hopefully helpful!) thoughts:
      First, have you watched our Ultimate Swiss Train Pass Guide (th-cam.com/video/kk6wuDzvSPg/w-d-xo.html)? We go into great detail there, and it would be the best place to start if you haven't already seen it.
      Otherwise, if you come to this area in the middle of your trip and have a normal Swiss Travel Pass, the pass will already be activated (unless you buy a flex pass, which likely is not a great deal). But if you come here in the beginning or end, then, no, you do not have to have the Swiss Pass activated for those days.
      So it really comes down to timing, and how long you'll be here. Hopefully the tips in the train pass video (and downloadable checklist!) were helpful in determining what's best for your time in the Interlaken area!

    Hei, i really like those kind of videos about my lovely country. It is interesting to see it from someone outside. But i have a question, why is everybody always going to Interlaken/ Lauterbrunnen, etc you name it. There are so many nice places out here where you have many less people and really can enjoy the nature for yourself. And the costs really go down when you go away from Zurich, Lucerne or other big cities, or tourist places.

      Hi Stöfel and thanks for your kind reply! We totally understand your question-there are literally beautiful places around every corner in Switzerland, and we've visited almost every canton. One of our favorites was visiting Glarus two years ago. So much more local, and every bit as beautiful!
      Having said that, the Jungfrau region really is special (even though it's very touristy!). And we think people tend to start with the places they've heard about because they feel more familiar. Plus, when there's lots of information about what to do and how to do it, it just feels more approachable (especially in a foreign country).
      We really want to expand our content into other areas of Switzerland, especially valleys adjacent to Lauterbrunnen. So hopefully we can show more of the lesser known places (without letting too many people know ;)
      Thanks again for commenting!

    I'm confused about whether we need to get a Visa to go or not. I read that US citizens don't need one, but they could be denied entry. I also read you need to prove your financial ability to visit. So, do you need a Visa to visit or not?

      Hi there! A valid U.S. passport with at least 6 months left until expiration is all you should need. You'll receive a stamp in your passport when you arrive in Switzerland that effectively functions as your visa. Hope this helps!

    I'll be there in 2 weeks! Does the Swiss pass work there in interlaken?

      Hi Pamela! It depends on what you mean by "works." It will definitely cover everything in the valleys at 100% (including rides on the lakes). But many of the mountain lifts are only covered at 50%, and the ride to Jungfraujoch is only discounted 25% with the Swiss Travel Pass.
      If you haven't seen it already, we made a video to help answer your exact question (th-cam.com/video/kk6wuDzvSPg/w-d-xo.html). We hope this helps!!

    Please tell me how internet works in Switzerland, I am going there this October I depart from America.

      That's a tough question to answer since the internet is different strengths depending on where you are (just like in the USA)! It's usually included at most accommodations, but the speed will vary. Overall you shouldn't have any trouble!

      They do have dark chocolate, if that's what you mean! When you go to a chocolate shop, just ask them for their options (It's all delicious!)
