Yesterday I removed the starter from my 91 model year, there was a small sheet metal part in between, the two screws go through, is the sheet metal part important or can I leave it out because I'm totally desperate because it always falls down
Yes, it's important If it's a shim in which I believe you're talking about. If it is a shim and you go back up with the starter without it, the starter will not make contact with the flywheel correctly, hence making that crazy noise.
I have a 1992 Chevrolet Camoro V8 RS 25Th Anniversary and I changed out the starter several times threw out the life of the Camaro and I never had to remove the OEM Exhaust system, remove bolts to starter and bring it right down, if you got a aftermarket Exhaust system then there is we’re the problem can be too far over the starter.
How can I know which starter to order because there’s one with two long bolts and then there’s one with one long and one short bolt what I need is the one with the short
This is the starter that fits your application and it's at a great price (link below). How many wires are with that purple wire. Someone has ran a jumper wire from column yellow ignition hot to purple neutral safety switch in the console. I'm trying to fix her back to glory not cut and burn more wires into a mess like I had on this 88 gta I got. Car starts with jumper wire but if un plugged won't start but after dtar you can unhook said jumper wire and she will run backup light work. I'm con fused 1988 pontiac gta.
My car turn on then turned off , the fan wasn’t running but it was making a noise ? It started smoking so I unplugged the battery, is that my starter gone bad cause now when I run the key engine doesn’t crank . Help me out .
Hi Martin, there's a possibility the solenoid went bad which caused it to smoke. The first thing I would do though is check the wires running to the starter. Make sure they didn't touch the frame of the vehicle.

My V6 Firebird wasn't starting, and your video gave me a perfect preview of what to expect. Even had the bolt sizes! Thanks so much!
You're very welcome. Thank you so much for watching.
Yooo Cuz thank you so much! Got tired of tappin the starter!

Did you forget to mention you gotta drop the exhaust! I’m out here right now doing exactly step by step. The exhaust is in the way to drop it out
At the 3:25 mark I say exactly that.
Lmao my exhaust bolts broke
O.fg...just I stalled headers... and now have to tear it al apart to replace starter
Don't need to remove exhaust

Thanks man. Very helpful. I have only to change the solenoid. Do you think it is possible without removing the whole starter ?
There's really no room. I don't think it can be replaced without removal.

Shim it. It's off center...
You never got back to me about the extra van. I had 7 now only two left..
Nice Job
Thank you.
Why so many wires to the starter motor...?
That's how it came from the factory I presume. The car had been sitting up since the early 2000's.

My fucking starter went out on my 86 firebird
