These style starters are a great upgrade from those huge heavy OEM units especially with headers 🙂👍

This is a great video and the link really helps. I went on auto sites looking for the right starter for my 89 and was sent the wrong starter twice (once from Summit and once from Corvette Central).

Having the same starting issue with my 1990 l98 corvette and am happy I stumbled on to your video. Very informative and detailed. Did replacing the starter resolve the heat soak problem? Did you install any heat shielding or blankets? Thank you

Always remember to crawl under and give the starter a few taps with a hammer 🔨 before calling a truck...this will typically get it to function to get you home

Great tip, unfortunately there is no crawling under this sled. haha

I noticed it didn't completely cover the original hole in the bellhousing and left a bottom crescent to the ring gear . Is there a cover of some sort to prevent water , rocks debris etc from entering and possibly trashing the ringear??

Thanks for posting this video. I'm suspecting that my starter(more the solenoid) is on its way out. I to have a 4+3 with those trans lines in the way. Good to know that moving them aside a little will not damage them. I will defiantly replace the old heavy starter with a mini starter.

Hi thank you for watching . Yes the mini starters are great replacements for sure!

Did you end up having to add a shim?

What kind of rims are those ? And what’s the size on them ? Looks mean. You think I can changer starter with car being on ramps instead of jacked up ?

I'm dealing with a bad solenoid in my '84 C4 but I've decided to replace the entire OEM starter/solenoid with this 'mini' starter. I replaced the OEM starter in my '98 C5 (yeah, I have two Vettes) with a mini and it's the only way to go. Fingers crossed the C4's starter drops loose as easily as shown in this video. The good news is that it failed in my garage. Like Bradon suggested below, I whacked the solenoid with a hammer and that did free up the contacts which were stuck closed. Unfortunately, when I tried to start the engine, the solenoid froze up again.

Yea it sucks getting stranded. The hammer trick is always helpful.

I managed, with some effort, to get the OEM starter out. I'll make a nominal attempt to install another OEM starter (I rummaged through my shop and found one. It tested OK so I'll go ahead and use it.) but if it's too much of a struggle, I'll get one of these Powermaster starters. What is the part number for the one in this vid?

I notice a small gap at 9:03 after the install where you can see thru into the flywheel... Is it safe to drive like that?

I just did this to my c4 but for some reason smoke is coming from it, did I perhaps wire it wrong?

    • @etwasbauen6615
      @etwasbauen6615  ปีที่แล้ว

It could be.or its a faulty starter.

@@etwasbauen6615 nvm it's working good now, it probably was oil burning on the heatshield

TO MY SURPRISE I WAS GIVIN THIS VID A FAIR RATING UNTIL THERE IS NO PARTS LINK ONE ABOUT THE PRODUCT USED,NOT TO MENTION WAS THE SHIMS SUPPLIED NEEDED. WHAT GIVES. MAYBE I DIDN'T SEARCH THE TOPIC MORE. THIS TYPE OF VID'S SEEM TO BE VERY COMMON. ONE SHOULD REVIEW BEFORE POSTING. JUST MY 2 CENTS.

The link got deleted because it's so old, literally just go on summit racing and type in the title bro like what it's not that hard, "was the shims supplied needed?" Bro the shims literally come with the starter when you order it. It seems you didn't research the topic what so ever because you should've been able to find it within 5 mins if you actually researched it.

I was little curious to see if his car needed them or not….
