This was Aberdare that you started off in and you went up over graig mountain to Maerdy. I grew up here (Aberdare) and left at 18 for australia from where I am now watching this, thankyou for the vid, brings back memories

I often drove over that mountain when I used to be a lorry driver and on going down the hill to Maerdy, I always enjoyed the view of the valley containing the old Maerdy Colliery site.

Alas, several shops have closed in the last few months. "Shoezone" closed in April and is to become, yet another, Charity shop. The former Barclays Bank seen at the turning-off at the Cenotaph closed its doors two tears' ago. The town is not what it was!

Used to live in aberdare with a girl many years ago. They hate the English and I hated the Welsh for hating the English 😂

Lol, Aberdare people are 6th gen English immigrants who still haven't learnt Welsh.

I'm very English. I live in Penderyn, near Aberdare. My children went to school in Aberdare, and I worked throughout the local valleys - Taf, Cynon, Rhondda (Fach and Fawr).
Any hatred I experienced was superficial and was usually linked to Rugby or other sporting rivalry. Quite a few of the people I know are either English or had some English ancestry. My friendliest and most cheerful neighbour is a Plaid member.
