21 and thank you. I’ve been teaching guitar and music since I was 15. Studying music since I was 5. I’m 71 years young and people still ask if it’s too late to take up an instrument. These tests are a great way to evaluate their abilities to succeed. I’ve been retired for 11 years due to health reasons. I can still use tools like this for those who wish to start later in life. Not to discourage others but without an ear for tones, it might be cruel to give anyone false hope. I used to give this type of test when I was actively teaching but this has been a reminder of how to address musical ability in new students. Young or old, we need people that just enjoy listening. Stay well and again, thank you. ✌️💙😎🎼

18 points. Took guitar lessons when I was 12 for about 3 months. Never finished but did well during class and enjoyed it. Am now 60 and took this and your previous test. Both putting me at above average missing only 2 points each both times for questions involving more than one answer. Think I am a tad slow to respond for the 2nd part of the answer. Made me feel great as I am now listening to a lot of music and interested in if I can pick up different voices and development of those voices over the years.

Perfect score, 21. At the risk of bragging, I'm not surprised. My musical ear is quite incredible. I can hear pitches and such. Play me a note, I'll identify it. Tell me to hum a specific note and I'll nail it.
Now, realistically, I know I'm not at the top. I've seen videos of young kids doing some pretty amazing things. This guy played a bunch of notes on a piano at once and his son correctly identified every single note without even blinking. That's quite a bit above my abilities. I have to hear those same notes plastered again and again, and after enough time I might be able to correctly identify them.
Still, I'm very proud of my ear for what it is.

Curious. I have tinnitus in my right ear and, the hearing specialists (several of them) tell me I have high-frequency deafness in that ear. I can hear speech on that side but not understand it. Apparently this is because the deafness removes the vowel sounds. Whatever the explanation, you have to sit to my left if you want me to hear you properly. Also, I have no idea where a sound originates.
This was a sudden-onset condition that led me to give up on classical guitar. I did take up piano, mostly because it's louder (perhaps more accurate to say that the sound has more 'body') and no tuning is involved. I managed 18 in this test which is quite encouraging.
Playing an instrument absolutely does make a difference. That's not to say I will be playing at Carnegie Hall anytime soon. Pretty sure the Town Hall is closed to me :)

18 or 20. I got question 8 wrong twice for some reason, and got the last question correct the first time then heard 4 & 7 the second time. I'm 62 now, I used to play the piano a lot in my 20's and 30's: Joplin, Chopin, Schumann, Bach, Mozart, etc. But I sight read very poorly, so learning anything new is a struggle. I want to start playing again, you're motivating me.

19 points! I've been in choir for years and years, but I don't really know how to read music (it's all memory learning for me). This was a fun test, it really made me think and made me realize that I'm more capable of understanding pitch than I thought.

I got 20. I can't sing or hold a tune to save my life. But I've been listening to all kinds of music ever since I was very little and have always tried to remember melodies and voice pitches and to recognize different instruments so I guess it helps. Just don't let me sing, for your own sake.

I got 17 points. I am a multi-disciplined visual artist that loves to sing with a choir. I think I would improve my pitch memory if I trained. Honestly, I know I can’t remember a note sequence 2 minutes after singing through several times with my poor choir director. Sometimes I feel so sorry for him. I totally get why he never asks me to sing a solo part.

Scored 18 on this test, some of the multi choises question i got 1 of 2 right or 2 out of 3 right in the scale scenarios, and question 8 I wronged.
But I do not play any instruments, but I grew up with a very musical talented father that plays: Key harp ALOT , flute, acoustic guittar, sitar, harmonica & mouthy on the sides whenever hes not playing Kay harp, must be what helpt to develop a keen ear, also listen to music alot on a regular basis.

A perfect score could be either "perfect" pitch or excellent "relative" pitch. Fun fact: I was born with perfect pitch, but it dropped almost a half tone when I had an autoimmune disease that disturbed my memory. I now have to mentally "transpose" to be able to accurately determine the "concert pitch" of a note out of context.

I scored 19 on this test. I missed the 2nd note on #9 & #13 by one number. Scored 13 on the other test missing #11 & #14. I played the guitar when I was 16 till around 19 then stopped playing until recently when my best friend gave me an acoustic guitar for this past Christmas. Just turned 48 in October. I also ruptured my left eardrum when I was 5yrs old. So I'm somewhat surprised that I did well on either of these tests. Anyway it was fun to try.😊

  • @LordKai1102

    I scored 17/21.
I learned an instrument for 1 year in basic school, but when I had to choose an instrument I wanted a piano instead of erm... the ones that you have to draw and pull together while played notes... whatever this is called in english.
But we couldn't afford a piano, so I kinda stopped at it for over 15 years. With my first salary at 21 or 22 I bought me a veery cheap keyboard just for practicing and love of music. After a year or so I kinda forgot it and when I turned 29 2 years ago, I picked it up again after hearing a piano version of my most loved video game music of all time composed by Yoko Shimomura, which I consider a masterpiece and would call it "modern classic".
I screwed up 1 point in question 8, I guessed 4 but it was 3.
    Another on in question 9, I guessed 2 & 5 but it was 1 and 5.
    And another two in question 10, I guessed 1, 2 & 6 but it was 1,3 & 7.
So that's the only mistakes I took, and these are actually kinda close, so I'll be proud of me for once.
Love & greetings from germany! :)

I scored a 6. I got the first 4, then missed the first 2 pointer and got question 6 and 7 correct, but after that everything went over my head. After the test I went in for a second time for that first 2 pointer and even knowing the answer I just couldn't hear it correctly.
Maybe this has something to do with the fact that I have difficulty in following a conversation if there are loud background noises. I have to focus really hard if I want to follow the conversation my friends are having, even if we are equal distance apart. Everything just seems to get washed out.
I still enjoy music though 🙂

  • @el_daro
    @el_daro ปีที่แล้ว

This test left me pondering for a bit if you are actually joking about the highest score or not, as I couldn't figure out how I could only make 19 points with one mistake, while the highest score is 21. I was looking over my list of answers again and again, being sure I just didn't count it right. Turns out I assumed every answer option is one point, while question 5 was actually two points for a single option...
Now I'm just disappointed I'm in the "above average" category with measly 20 points. Not to brag, but I wouldn't consider 21 points being pitch perfect or anything exceptional at all, 'cause I found the test to be very basic (I'm not an educated musician, but I love music and I know a thing or two about the theory that I picked up from some tutorial videos and folks I know). I'm not too old, but I can see I'm struggling with distinguishing higher frequencies. Each time I was asked to identify a note on a scale, I was doubting my answers at the higher pitch. Got one of them wrong, but a few more I doubted, so yeah, not impressive.
Great effort on the test, though, so thank you very much!
For anyone interested, there is also a website that can test your ability to hear which tone is higher, gradually narrowing the gap between them to the point where they almost sound the same. Can't say how to find it now, as I took it a very long time ago, but I think you could google it pretty easy.

Very few people have perfect pitch. People with perfect pitch can sing a note with no reference. Relative pitch is attainable for most of us, however.

Modesty is a sign of perfect pitch.
      Possibly.

Very interesting. Would be nice if someone can explain my poor score of only 9. Not sure if one is allowed to listen to each task twice or several times before giving an answer, as I gave my results on one hearing. Even so, I have always been told ever since a kid that I had a good ear for music. My school picked me out to enrol in music as I was able to cover songs quicky without music sheets, (poorly, mind you... with one finger on the piano or one finger picking at the guitar lol). So, how is it that most commenters here did far better than my efforts? Could it be that my memory is fading or just plain thick?

It is difficult to be able to rapidly switch between pitch sets instead of staying in the same one. The fact that you can "cover" songs means you have an excellent ability, but your memory may be too good, retaining pitches from the previous example which would then skew your answers.
