This is a review of the Farsports Ventoux C series carbon wheels. They are 56mm depth
Overall review was these wheels were very well made and performed well. Their aerodynamic stability was good and will manage gusting conditions well. Build quality of the wheels was excellent, there were no mechanical issues and there was no damage beyond wear and tear over the 4000km test duration.
If you would like further information or to purchase these wheels you can click below
    www.farsports.com/products/ve...
Farsports have given Hambini viewers a discount code Hambini50 which can be used for the purchase of wheels. (This is not an affiliate coupon and I DO NOT receive any financial compensation.)
For clarity, the reviewed wheels had steel Sapim spokes and TPI bearings. These wheels are available with ceramic bearings and that option is not recommended - there is a likelihood of severely diminished performacne over a short period of time.

I have four sets of Farsports wheels. Well built, thousands of miles on gravel and road. The only "issue" with them is that because you aren't paying for crash insurance when you buy them, if something does happen, you need to pony up for a rim and arrange for someone to build it up. Highly recommended. Fantastic value for money.
FWIW, I wouldn't classify the rim's optimization for tubeless as a bad thing. It's more just a noteworthy thing. Obviously, not for everyone, but as you note it's totally fine to run them with tubes if you want to roll that way.

    1. There is a discount code in the description. IT IS NOT AFFILIATED
    2. Some of the technical aspects around testing and how the things work will be covered in a separate video - I've had lots of requests for it now and judging by the comments, I think viewers are much more technically aware than they used to be so I'm going to do that.

I bought a set of SuperTeam carbon clinchers with aluminum braking surfaces and I really like them. We have a lot of wind in the San Francisco Bay area and I seldom have steering difficulties with the deep wheels. About the same as box section rims. The aluminum braking is something you really need here. I think having a stop sign at the bottom of a 9% grade pretty much precludes carbon braking surfaces. After 3 years of running tubeless, they just weren't worth the mess and often flats for a slight loss of rolling resistance. And I bought the best tires. I've also gone to titanium. Yes they are heavier but I am not joe racer. And carbon forks are more reliable than carbon frames. Though you wouldn't know that until your 10th year on a carbon frame.

Thanks for the stability response 👍, not quite that good at "in depth" (your profession) i did do basic lift and aerodynamic principals when I was in the Airforce some years ago. Looking forward to your follow up. So my question is more about the shape of the tail on the rim changing from older wheels coming to more of a point vs the rounded back and if this affects the collapsing of the air flow between the two designs when you recieve a yaw/sideways gust. From my limited training, rounded back will help reduce the pressure difference on the opposing side near the rear of the rim. Or is this not such a big difference at bicycle speed?

I got come 38mm carbon Farsports last summer, running them with vittoria Corsa and latex tubes with no issue. Had them built with sapim cx ray and DT swiss 350 hubs. They've been faultless. They let me change the colour of 2 nipples (either side of the spoke hole) and their communication was perfect. The writing has been on the wall for at least a decade for me. It happened in the ‘70’s with Japanese motorcycles. If you couldn’t afford a Euro or American bike you got a Japanese bike. Those bikes started to sell really well and now they make the best bikes on the planet. Chinese stuff will eventually go the same way.

I bought a Farsport carbon wheelset 50mm a few months ago. I built the wheels with Sapim spokes and DT 240 hubs. The wheels are of high quality and remains true. I am no light weight and weigh 100kg and so far the wheels have not given my any problems what so ever. I am running Pirelli Velo 28 tires and because the internal width is wide, the tires measure 31mm wide. At 50mm the wheels weigh 1335 gr which are very light. I experienced excellent communication with Farsport. They are not cheap but well worth the price of admission.

I have a set of FarSport wheels. Rim brake, tubeless, road, standard spoke holes, 50mm. The are great, except that they pulse under braking. I have cleaned the braking surface, but that doesn't help much. I have about 4,500 miles on them. I built a set for my daughter's XC 27.5" race bike. Those have no holes in the rim bed. They came out to be 1300g on DT Swiss 240s hubs. No problems at all. I'm ordering a third set now for my CX bike today. I have had great luck with FarSport wheels. From a MTB pespective I started to use CN products this season and I can't fault them. 11-46 cassette from ZTTO is super light and so far has taken the abuse pretty well. Pair of boost hubs from ARC are doing well too even after serious bike park abuse. Bearing are shoot tho but I suspect it is the disc side which always go first because of the heat made by the braking. In my 15 years in the sport I had all sorts of hubs including Hope and those are performing as I would expect from any other brand, difference is I get 114 poe and they cost me 70€ delivered. I will certainly keep using these 2 products for my future builds.

To have such a technical assessment if fine but in the scheme of things after visibly looking at build quality, finnish, spoke tension would have been a prerequisite to graph. It shows what is going on in the wheel and displays build quality. It also can give an insight into potential future issues regarding longevity, also upper tensions, variability. You can have a wheel that's perfectly true with very fine tolerances in lateral, radial run-out with high variability in tensions.

I'm sure you delivered a honest review. My concern is that the supplier may have delivered a premium build set to you for review while the actual item for sale to us mere mortals is of a different quality. A review is only trustworthy if it's a blind review. This means that you as the reviewed purchased the wheels and reviewed them without the knowledge of the manufacturer.

    Hello Hambiniiii!
I'm wondering... In many of your videos you say, that aluminium spindles on cranks get crushed from the stainless steel races of the bearings. Is it normal, that the axles on hubs are aluminium? Don't they have the same problem as the spindles with the bearing material?
    Thank you in advance,
    Alles in Obi!

    • @Hambini
      @Hambini  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

wheels don't receive the same cyclical forces as a crank axle so you don't get the load transfer. Additionally, the bearings are going into machined holes so the fit tends to be better.

This is out of topic, but i'll shamelessly ask anyway.
I'm looking at Sensah carbon 2x11 groupset.
They came with carbon fibers (obviously) on the rear derailleur cage and shifters. Which got me thinking. Does carbon handles friction well?
I looked at a few forums (sailing forums), and they don't seem like the idea of having a metal rivet meet with carbon.
Looking at the joints on carbon fiber parts from trace velo is worrying. The carbon shifter lever has a gouge at the point where it is in contact with aluminium part. Derailleur cage is especially worrying because it rotates very frequently and possibly rubbing with chain on road bumps. The cage is non removable if i'm not mistaken.
In short. Will it be durable?
