Just in the few years I've been doing this, Traxxas has come out with some great engineering/changes. The preset gear mesh is great for beginners, wish I would have had it, haha. The cush drive system is phenomenal vs the slipper setup, to me (for bashing, maybe not for racing). I've shredded many rear diffs cause the slipper wasn't perfect. Mostly in the snow, cause you want it tight for traction, but then land funny, or in a dry parking lot.

I bought 2 Maxx's and they both came with the same radio without the 70/30 switch.
I miss it too, especially with today's truck with so much power. That extra resolution in forward is much appreciated. One more reason to replace it with a decent computer radio.

After hatin on the Hoss, seeing it run, it seems fun. If I didn’t have a beefed up stampede I would get one.
Not sure I understand why Traxxas made this truck. Just a slightly fancier Stampede. Would definitely get the Arrma Kraton 4s over this or pony up and buy a Maxx.

Great video! I really like the bunny hops as well but I would rather have a Maxx for a few dollars more. The Maxx would fill that mini monster niche better for my type of bashing. I think everyone has that radar gun as I bring the same gun out as well. Thank you for your insights!
I got a brand new TRX-4 from the Traxxas website and it has a 70/30 switch. So no, I don't think they discontinued it.
sometimes when I have the TSM turn all the way up it gets speed wobbles turn the TSM down to half way are all the way off and it should eliminate those speed wobbles

I'm sure maybe you know this but the traction control can cause the speed wobbles on speed runs. On my 1/16 erevo vxl it shakes its tail end every time I run 3s on street I turn the traction control off and goes away.

I know it doesn't seem like it but trax-ass is constantly updating parts. Just check out the gtr shock caps on the erevo vs the 2.0. They went to much beefier caps and rod ends. Heck, when I see older erevo 2.0 videos I can see a difference in the tie/push rods and very nearly purchased the older smaller version instead of the stronger heavy duty ones that came stock with mine. Not that I've used them, but I keep them with me Justin Case. I also never had an issue with my 2012 era trax-ass slash 2by and 4x4 shocks. Threw in thick fluid and rpm 2 stage pistons and never had a lead. That truck had horrible bearing life issues and kept needing to replace the stock arms with rpm replacements.
My x maxx didn’t come with the 70/30 either

@mark try turning down the stability management for your speed run, my slayer pro wobbles like crazy on speed runs, only if I'm over like 20% on the multifunction nob.

@@maniac1628 it's just an accelerometer that measures horizontal motion. It can counteract with steerin adjustments...or throttle adjustments. Just with steering on traxxas tech. It depends on the tx rx and the esc so comparing tsm %'s doesnt quite matter. If you are on a bendy track than you probably want it off cause it will limit your steering bigtime. For most ripping around yea you want it turned down to the point it wont wobble at your max speed.
I really want castle esc to allow for the 70/30 throttle but I can never get it to calibrate there. Would be awesome on a crawler that uses no actual brake! since I only have reverse and forward with auto drag brake. LOL. I've tried this setting out on my revo 2.0 and I liked it on nitro models but not something that has such a dynamic brake. I couldn't help but continuously spin out since too much brake upsets my revo. Going into a turn I tap the brake, probably about 30-40%, to get it to turn in and then rotate on throttle.
Ugh now I have to make a decision on the c Max 8s and hoss. Will you do more content on the max 8s ? Compare size and drive ?
Great bash! Hey when u got the speed wobbles, were you using TSM or did you have it turned down? Just wondering if the gyro function could contribute to the wobble at high speed
When you are saying the Maxx and Revo make it over the hill, do they have the faster gearing installed? I'd be interested in seeing if the Hoss makes it with the faster gearing.
I think the reason they got ride of the 70/30 switch is that you can't do all the programming from the transmitter with it in 70/30 mode.
2:30 re. speed wobbles - I wonder why they are not belting (or at least taping) the tires on trucks that go over 30 mph...

7:00 - Re Bluetooth link - If you program it with the Link module installed, then remove the Link module, will it retain the programming? (I don't want to buy the Link module for all my vehicles...)
8:15 - I did a double-take when I noticed it doesn't have a heatsink OR a fan. I figured the motor would at least have a heatsink. Seems like it needs it, but they want to sell it as a hop-up. On the other hand, you're in a hot climate in summertime, so....
You have a Maxx, E-Revo, X-Maxx and St4mpede VXL. Why would you buy one of these? Hop up the Maxx instead and take a pass on this one.

Ok mark talk to me about the 70/30 switch... I've only hit the switch once on my xmaxx and the thing took off crazy in reverse so apparently you've got to do it before you turn it on but what is the benefit... please explain my RC brother
It gives the throttle more resolution. Instead of only having half the trigger for forward throttle you get 70% for forward throttle.

I’ll probably get one just because I have nothing on that platform.really what’s an extra 150$ lol atleast I don’t have to replace tx before I run it! Metal gear the servo and good to go.

Probably got rid of the 70/30 switch because people would change it while there truck is on and then it would zoom in reverse and break something so they probably complained to traxxas and they are just going to solve that problem by getting rid of it
I don’t really think it’s the servo that gives much. I think it’s the stock plastic servo saver. I have a Rustler 4x4 VXL with a Savox 1258tg servo and it’s got a ton of steering slop
Probably the sloppy servo-saver is needed, with the cheap servo. Go to a nice servo like yours and I bet it isn't needed any more.
Wish it was a little cheaper. I would go with another maxx before this truck

What did you name your truck
Idk about anyone else's experience but I have never been able to get a vxl system to run in 70/30 consistently. Once the battery reaches a certain point it cant give enough juice and refuses to start or just cogs. An before you blame my exact one I've experience this with old new 2wd 4wd it happens. 50/50 has always been the way to go.
did u have tsm turned up if so that will cause speed wobbles... also traxxas electronics are known for getting super hot never been a big fan of vxl love the cars tho just gotta put a castle or hobbywing on em

That msrp of $479 is too high. Consumers will be paying over $500 after tax and initial setup, granted a good RTR truck with workable components, stock Ultra Shocks are fine if tuned correctly, but the steel shafts and plastic cap are their biggest weakness. Nothing wrong with having a high cg chassis in a basher. Interested to find out if the driveshafts fit the 2wd line of rc vehicles. All in all it looks like it's gonna be a great basher if used correctly with no hard landings but it needs to be $80 to $100 less

the bunny hop dose not let you reach its max speeds cant go 60 65 mpg like in the box says if you really want a truck to stay down and go staight like an arrow the best one is the slash ultimate 4x4 with the low chasis that one hauls ass

If they just put steel axles on the rear then it would be a really good truck.. if it's like the Rustler. My son snaps a rear axle on every outing practically.

I feel like this truck makes no sense unless traxxas is discontinuing the stampede after all these years. it looks like a bit more stable stampede personally if i was in the market for a mt id just spend a bit more on the maxx. im not hating the hoss just dont understand why right after the maxx

I think they were just completing their old lineup in the new gen. So revo maybe new update next....ugh..just make a damn X0-2 allready
I hate to say it, but the St4mpede VXL is AWESOME with a few hop-ups:
1) Decent tires. (I like Pro-Line Mashers)
2) Decent ESC. (I hear the new ones have a decent ESC; my original one burned out; replaced it with HobbyWing)
3) Aluminum shock caps; stock ones blow off on jump landings. It is inexcusable that Traxxas hasn't implemented this by now, considering how many huge jumps they show in their promo videos.
4) Castle SCT 3800 4-pole motor. Mine came with the 2-pole Velineon, and it just ran too hot, no matter what I did.
Once you get the St4mpede dialed in, it is a thing of beauty.

3:10 I crash much harder with my revo all the time. The only two mods I've done to protect it in crashes is the blue "trax-ass" metal rear brace and zip tying all my suspension arms to the body tower so they cannot reach maximum travel... by like 5mm or 1/5th inch. There is a walkway at the front of my complex that has grass leading up to it and launch off it all the time. Hit it going about 40 and the rear slapped so hard on the concrete edge it sent the ass of end and cartwheeled like 6 or 7 times. My body has hit so hard that it crushed one of my motor fans! lol. I tried the same thing with my trx6 and while it landed just fine the force transmitted through my 700 oz-in direct power servo through to the panhard man sheared it strait off. The first day I got my revo I took it down to Doheny State Beach and found are area where they placed tons of rocks to prevent further sand erosion. Launched off rock mounds for about 3 battery pack pairs before the front left lower a arm was finally ripped out of the axle carrier. Screwed it back in and haven't had it budge since and I've about warn down the stock tires completely.

Terrible value for money. They're too many options available to seriously target this. Potentially upgrading it makes you realize how much of a bad deal this is.
Meh....too little too late. For just under $500 how about some aluminum threaded shock bodies. Where’s the beef? Arrma just re-upped their 3s line and looks like they’ve fixed most, if not all, of their short comings. So much more truck for $160 less. I want to like Traxxas but every move they make seems over priced and a step behind.

I agree. The UDR is really their ace in the hole. They should have made a simplified 1/10 scale version of that instead that still had trailing arms.
