    Thank you for such a comprehensive video. As I have just started learning coding I only have four notes so far but I have been struggling between having a chunk of my vault taken up as the collection grows or starting a new vault. As I already have Visual Studio for coding I think I am going to start a Dendron Vault purely for learning to code. Then as I improve I will have my reference material on hand. Perfect timing!

      I hate arbitrary rigid hierarchy. You can refactor it all life long and never get it good for several purposes at once.
      Arbitrary logical views based on free graphs are much much more efficient. No extra vain need to move things, no extra vain need to duplicate data.

    Very thorough! I would love to see a video on how you use "Todo Tree" at some point. I'm still trying to figure out how I would use Dendron vs. Obsidian. I get the "terms" and such, but it seems like it all comes down to how one does their research and how the information will be utilized. Thanks for always providing great content.

    I was hoping to be sold on Dendron but it just looks over-engineered for my use case. I just use markdown files and folders in VS Code and it works great for me. The global search does a lot of the heavy lifting anyways.

    It looks very useful, but between the lag, and having to refactor and update the index, it looks like there are a lot of pain points in using this software.

    Thank's for the informative video. Unfortunately, as I understand the software is not for Android devices and I solely work on Samsung S4 Tablet (in the moment) and with an external bluetooth keyboard. Though I use Obsidian and this is not a too bad choice, too. But again unfortunately I got a plague on my beloved tablet: after the the release of the new version of Obsidian and when using the external keyboard, I delete backwards using backspace, but only for certain words like plugin. When I write the word and use backspace, then either the last characters are deleted or the cursor jumps to the beginning of the word. I turned off all plugins and restarted the tablet, I reinstalled Obsidian, deleted some plugins, but couldn't change this strange behavior. It is only in Obsidian, no change in other apps. The same keyboard and my S8+ phone and Obsidian work together as nice as you can think off. In some Obisidian plugins (Kanban, Excalidraw) I can write even on the table, but in the editor I get this strange behavior. The online keyboard works as it is supposed to do. Any ideas how can I get rid of this backspace deleting? I also cannot relate any autocorrection feature to this phenomena. Would be great, if you could give me a hint. Thanks in advance!

    As of ten minutes in, you're not making the best case for dendrons vs. folders. In dendrons, you have to use abbreviations like "s" and "iac", or filename lengths get out of control. Guess how you can fix that? Folders! You talk about how easy using regex in the search function is, and-besides the fact that it seems to not actually work for you-the point of a hierarchical system is that you shouldn't *have* to search! And that kind of search function (using slashes instead of dots) is easy to implement with a folder hierarchy. And you show how great the tree view is…which is identical, so far, to a folder structure.
    So far, folders are looking *better* overall.
    Oh: Also, if I want to move things around in a folder hierarchy, I don't have to "refactor" or rename files. I can just *move folders around.*
    27:40 Okay, I can see how the dot format is useful for dates. You've got automatically-hierarchical notes by year, month and day just from the naming scheme. That's cool, and not as easily replicable by folders.
    30:20 Auto-showing children is cool too. You don't really have "child" and "parent" notes with folders.

    • @BryanJenks
      @BryanJenks  ปีที่แล้ว

      there are pros and cons to each with approach. a lot of the command line stuff i do is also made easier by everything being at a top level. this unlike my obsidian videos is not meant to be items that could be placed in multiple locations and so linking versus folders is a better approach rather this is for my tech notes and dev-log so its very rigid in structure and to avoid folders and filing this is a low effort way to managing already almost 2000 notes
